Case Quizes

Fall Season Follies!

Fall season means back-to-school, kids, and of course, germs! Can you solve this child’s case?

Shana, I see you’re holding up a DVD.

It’s “Homeopathy Around The World”, which you told me to hold up!  And which also, by the way, caused me to miss Conan O’Brien tonight!

Well excuuuuuuuuuuse meeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!  It happened to be a very good video!

What was it about?

Homeopathy, around the world!!!!!!!!!

Oh.

And it’s got Jeremy Sherr in it, Tinus Smits and numerous other people, and it takes us around the world showing what homeopathy is doing for people, and apparently it’s doing a lot more than we thought!  It only costs $30 and shipping is free.  Click here to see a preview of it and to place an order:

Don’t you have any announcements?

Jan Hooks from “Saturday Night Live” died, she was only 57.

Oh no!

She was on SNL from 1986 to 1991.

She was soooooo funny!  Shana, get me a clip of Jan Hooks as Tammy Faye Bakker (pronounced “Baker”) on “Church Chat” from Saturday Night Live.

Check!

“Church Chat”

Thank you, Shana, that was hilarious!  I should explain to our audience that during the ’80’s, an explosion of Christian fundamentalism swept across the country–thanks in large part to then-president Ronald Reagan who ushered an era of right-wing insanity we’re still trying to recover from today!  Evangelists appeared on TV with their mega-churches and they became known as “televangelists”, basically they were all a bunch of phonies, hypocrites and con-artists but people apparently fell for them hook, line and sinker!  So, two of the more famous ones were Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, who got caught stealing, among other things; so, Saturday Night Live made fun of them in a skit called “Church Chat”.  The notable thing about these “televangelists” was that they were always crying!  That was so you wouldn’t notice how corrupt and sleezy they were!  Anyway, Jan Hooks is seen here as Tammy Faye Bakker–crying, as usual, with her trade-mark mascara running!  I adored Jan Hooks, so sorry she died.  Well, on that sad note, we should probably try to cheer ourselves up by starting the quiz.

There’s nothing like the Hpathy Quiz to bring a smile to people’s faces!

If you say so.  Well, Shana, luckily we have Claire here again, who has lots of kids, and as you know, kids are always either getting sick or hurting themselves!  So without further ado….Heeeeeeeere’s Claire!

Hi-oh!!!!

———————————————

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  And welcome to the fall season everybody, replete with school kids and plenty of viruses to go around!

Say no more, say no more!  I nearly froze to death last night, myself!

I went to the grocery store Thursday, the library Friday, yesterday we were all fine, then at 4:30 in the morning, Isabella started breathing fast, woke from sleep, and threw up!

Well that’s just great!

Initially; there were no other symptoms other than a frontal headache and I did not know if I was dealing with something disagreeing with her stomach from dinner or a virus or what.  Ten minutes later she threw up again, and I gave her Arsenicum album 30c (dry).  She fell asleep for about 45 minutes, woke up and threw up again (5:25), went back to sleep for another 1.5 hours (7:00), then woke up and, well, you guessed it…..

Oh, the joys of parenthood…………..

I gave her Ars-alb 30c water dose this time and she fell asleep comfortably until 11:30 am, which was good.  But, she woke up, threw up again, and I gave her another Ars-alb water dose.

When she throws up, it is water, bile and sometimes a little foamy saliva.  She said she had a headache and felt queasy, and did not want crackers or ice.  I tried Ipecac 30c but five minutes later she threw up again and was not improved.  She drank half her bottle of water and then threw that up as soon as it was warm in her stomach; so, I tried Phosphorus 30c but that did not improve anything either.

Well, this sounds like an unmitigated horror!

She eats bits of ice, is whining about her nausea.  I returned to Ars-alb 30c again and she is queasy but is not retching, at least.

Last time she threw up (after last Ars-alb dose), it was mostly water from ice and water, and she did some belching.  Her queasiness is improved after vomiting but only for a few minutes.  Her headache is unmoved by anything so far.  She does not have a fever, although she told me when she woke up that in the night at one point she felt her teeth chattering, so she may have had a chill initially.

Well, Claire, I would have to ask you to fill out my Acute Case Questionnaire….

***

Well, Elaine, just after writing to you (1:15?) I gave her _________________ dry dose.  She stopped whining and whimpering and tossing around.

Claire, you didn’t tell me anything about “tossing around”!  That’s why I have a question in my questionnaire that asks, “What are you doing?”  This is why I have to tell people, “I know you’ve told me all about your case but I still need you to fill out the questionnaire!!!!!”

Anyway, after the remedy, she fell asleep for 20 minutes.  Then she woke up and threw up.  Then she drank some of her water, and then she said her head felt better, and she isn’t tossing around which is what was happening before.  She acted restful until around 1:50 when she got up to use the bathroom for the first time today.  She had a totally normal bowel movement so at least that end of things is fine!  She got back on the armchair and has closed her eyes and fallen asleep for a while now, over an hour.  Then she woke up briefly, had a sip of water, and now she is asleep again!

Claire, how is the sleep post-remedy compared to before?

The sleep post ________was deep, slow breathing, restful in spite of being in the middle of the living room with all the noise of the others, and waking refreshed and hungry/thirsty and seemingly recovered!  She has since had a bowl of whole grain noodles with sea salt and some steamed broccoli and an orange, no problems.

Well that’s it, case closed!

____________________ rocks!  One dose of _________________ dry, 2 pellets, and it seems we’re done!

*******

Can anyone solve this case?  If so, write to me at [email protected] and let me know and the answer will be in next month’s ezine.  And now, for this month’s “Funny Thing”, something Shana said, and here it goes:

“Shana, what are you doing?”

“I’m inspecting potatoes.”

  • Vomiting profuse
    Feels chills
    Thirsty for cold water

Only three remedies- Ars, Phos, Verat

    Two have already been tried.
I feel VERATRUM should do the trick.

  • I think if one would change the remedy here Veratrum could be well indicated. It is a remedy that does well in change of weather (it is fall) and has a strong affinity with vomiting with < for cold drinks and has restlessness too.
However…..Arsenicum has been helpful in this case. On giving Arsenicum the intervals between the vomiting spells have increased and sleep has resulted. I would not be hesitant to apply a higher potency of Arsenicum as I am thinking the situation is sudden and violent and the 30c potency may just not be holding. Did she give Ars 200?
