We read in books or learn from our teachers that diseases from a homoeopathic point of view, are due to the derangement of vital force. The derangement of the vital force leads to the appearance of abnormal signs and symptoms. If it is so then a particular medicine which increases the vital force should be able to cure all cases. Why do we read of hundreds of medicines that have the similar symptoms?

It is not true that the derangement of vital force results in the appearance of symptoms. The derangement of vital force just creates a fertile ground on which diseases can grow. The actual appearance of the signs and symptoms depends upon the cause of derangement of the vital force, secondary disease causes, and the individuality of the patient. This means there are n number of possible permutations and combinations depending upon the cause, individuality and the symptoms. Therefore one medicine can never be enough to restore the vitality in all cases. The selection of medicine depends upon what has gone wrong, how it has gone wrong and what it has led to. Since these details vary in all cases, we need different medicines in different cases.

Can vitamins be effectively turned into homeopathic supplements.

Dear Stanrock,

Most vitamis are available as potentised homeopathic medicines. There has not been any research to show that they can work as supplements but potentised vitamins may be used as homeopathic medicines according to the law of symptom similarity.

I feel pain behind my right foot (between the ancle and heel) when I get up from the bed or after sitting sometime. Same pain exists behind the left foot but that is little. This pain is spread in both legs but reduce after walking. My age is 52 and I have another major problem of flatulance. I have used Carbo Veg 30, Nux Vom 30 and some other remedies but there is no effect. Please help.

Unless and until the cause of the pain in your foot is not diagnosed, it will be difficult to suggest any remedy. The remedy that will work for your complaints has to cover your individuality. Otherwise it will be a futile exercise to take any homeopathic medicine. Consult a professional homeopath for proper diagnosis and treatment.

I have been suffering from some sexual dysfunction problems like Night Discharge since years. Now i have started taking Damiana Pentarkan (PTK No.40) os Dr. Willmar schwabe . I am also under weight ( 26 Years , Male, 50 Kg ). Can this medicine help me in recovering my sexual problems and the under weight problem as well. How long should I take this medicine. ??

Dear Zeshaan,

The medicine that you are taking can work as a general tonic and its effect will only last till you take it. Once you stop taking the medicine, its efect will wane off. The reason for this is that it does not address the root cause of your problems and does not take your individulaity into account. I would suggest that you consult a professional classical homeopath for proper case-taking.

of the 5 (or so) questions that I had, I submitted 2. after reading the intro course, most of what I wanted to know was answered (about 1.5 of my submitted questions and 2 or 3 unsubmitted). I took the course in search of medical help for loved ones but was stunned to find myself reading a patient profile for a particular medicine that fit me to a T! maybe 15 or 20% did not fit, but the part that did fit was very precise. recently I quit smoking because I felt something was wrong with my health, and that not smoking would give my body a chance to heal..and that also I could put my mind to the task more effectively. is there any reason why I can't just take the medicine with the patient description that fits my current state? I enjoyed your reply to anna on self-treatment, but if I know already, why can't I just get that medicine and try it?

Dear Betsy,

Although it seems to you that the patient profile that you read fits you to the T, I would still refrain from suggesting self-medication without professional guidance. One reason for this is that the profile of many medicines is very close and sometimes even 1 symptom can change the prescrption.

There are other issues too like deciding the right potency, repetition etc. So my advice would still be to work with a professional homeopath!
