| Patient: Master S…… . Age 12 years.
First consultation on 30 – 1 – 1995.
The story of the case is as follows:
‘On 2 – 1 – 1995 the boy fell
down from the roof of the first floor on to the roof of the ground
floor while flying kite and became unconscious (went into the state
of COMA). There were no external bruises. It was supposed that he
got injury on his head. He was immediately taken to a Neurologist
who did CT Scan (Annexure 1) and pronounced verbally that the case
is serious and the prognosis was bad. After giving necessary first
aid he referred the case from Dehradun to a Neurological Hospital
and Research Centre at Delhi. The patient was immediately taken
to Delhi and admitted there on 3 – 1 – 1995.
(CT Scan dt. 3 – 1 – 95, Annexure 2).
The condition of his brain as on 24 – 1 – 95
was as shown in CT Scan Annexure 3. The patient was kept there under
treatment till 25 – 1 – 1995. But,
after all possible treatment he did not regain consciousness. So,
the attending Neurologist told the father of the boy that they have
done whatever could be done and advised him to take the boy back
home. The Neurologist explained the bad prognosis to the father
of the patient. Firstly he was not hopeful that the boy will survive;
secondly, if the boy some how survives he would suffer severe epileptic
fits or would become insane.
With such a prognosis and still in comatose state the boy was brought
back to Dehradun and was kept in a nursing home where he was kept
on drip.
I was consulted on 30 – 1 – 1995.
The patient had the following three main complaints:
1. He was totally unconscious i. e. in a kind of coma, for almost
30 days now.
2. His bowels had not moved naturally during whole of this period,
I was told that the patient was given enema four times during the
whole month.
3. Due to the breathing difficulty the patient had been fitted
a plastic laryngeal tube. He was suffering from paroxysmal cough
and on coughing abundant ropy and sticky mucus was flying out through
the laryngeal tube. (According to the Neuro-Surgeon the Epiglotis
of the boy was paralyzed hence the laryngeal tube was fixed.)
After consulting Kent’s Repertory, Allen’s
Encyclopedia, Hering’s Guiding Symptoms and
Clarke’s Dictionary I prescribed Alumen 30,
up to that time I had meager information on Alumen available in
these books. This case again flashed to my mind while I was reading
the Materia Medica Viva by Dr. George Vithalkous.
Alumen 30 did the magic; in the evening of 31 – 1
– 1995 at 9:15 p.m. i. e. after second dose of the
medicine, the boy passed stool in natural manner without the aid
of enema. The first stool was very hard; it looked as if the patient
has strained to pass the stool first time since he became unconscious
on 2 – 1 – 1995. Later, on next day i.e. on 1
– 2 – 1995 he passed softer rather loose stools
twice. And this turned out to be the tuning point for the boy. On
2 – 2 – 1995 i. e. on fourth day it
was noted that he was putting his hand to his forehead with the
faint expression as if in pain.
Next day i. e. on 3 – 2 – 1995 there
appeared in the boy some signs of response to calling by his parents.
Since the phlegm was persisting with temperature between 99º
and 100º F, so, the sputum was sent for examination which revealed
the presence of pseudomonas bacteria in it. There was infection
around the laryngeal tube. ENT specialist was consulted he also
confirmed infection due to the tube; as such the originally fitted
plastic tube was replaced by a metal tube. At this stage the ENT
Specialist suggested to see by blocking the opening of the tube
whether the boy could breathe naturally through the nose. And it
was found that the boy could breathe through the nose; as such this
tube was removed on 18th February, 1995, and the
boy continued to breathe through his nose. (It seems that Alumen
has removed the paralysis of the Epiglotis.)
The wound of the laryngeal tube gradually healed up.
Gradually step by step the boy started regaining consciousness.
The milestones of progress were as follows during a period
of about one and half years:-
He was again taught to sit up.
He was unable to recognize his close relatives.
His voice returned after 67 days from the date of the accident
but speech was not properly intelligible. In the beginning his talking
was unintelligible and irrelevant.
In the beginning it appeared as if he has gone blind. After 74
days of the accident he started to respond to the light.
He was taught to stand up again.
Then he learned to walk, used to stagger.
Gradually sight improved but was unable to distinguish colors.
Before the accident he was studying in seventh class. Now was unable
to identify the alphabets of Hindi as well as of English. So he
was again taught the alphabets and numerical.
Gradually he started identifying the colors also.
The gait slowly became firmer. Yet sometimes staggered in the left
limb.
Memory gradually restored to a great extent.
Again joined school in class VIII.
In February 2003 he started getting occasional
epileptic attacks.
Ultimately Homoeopathy again came to rescue him from the epileptic
attacks.
From 30th January 1995 to 8th May 1997 apart from Alumen 30 some
other medicines according to the symptoms were also used.
The boy now is quite hale and hearty.
In short the boy again passed through the stages from infancy to
his present age within a span of about two and a quarter years after
regaining consciousness under the homoeopathic treatment.
Dr. George Vitalkous writes about Alumen in his Materia Medica
Viva Vol. 1 as under:
Kent writes: "It has been useful
in the treatment of old people who suffer from copious ropy, morning
expectoration, catarrh of the chest, haemoptysis and great weakness
of the chest, so that it is difficult to expel the mucus. In this
it is similar to Antimonium Tartaricum. Cronic morning cough."
Paroxysmal cough followed by copious mucus.
Copious expectoration after each paroxysmal
cough.
Malignant constipation, the patient will
wait for several days before he has a stool that consists of small
hard balls adhered together which come out in a big mass creating
excruciating pains that extend to thighs especially if the rectum
is affected with small ulcers due to hemorrhoids.
Copious mucus in larynx.
This remedy should be understood as having
mainly two phases, two states of pathological action upon the human
organism.
In the first it produces conditions where
we see extreme dryness of the mucous membranes, and skin which becomes
rough, indurations and hardening of glands and tissues of tongue,
of rectum, uterus, mammae etc with a tendency to malignancy, ulcers
with indurated bases, epitheliomas, scirrhus etc.
There is a tendency in this remedy to grayish
black manifestations such as eruptions, stool which is black, dark
pseudo membranes on throat etc.
The second phase is one of paralysis, paralytic
weakness, especially in rectum (severe constipation) and bladder
(no power to expel the urine, runs perpendicularly), with constricting
feelings like that of a tight band especially on extremities. Also
paresis, sluggish action of muscles, varicose veins that become
relaxed and bleed, hemorrhages of various types especially from
rectum, etc.
Sometimes we see a combination of the two
phases as in the severe constipation that this remedy produces,
where there is dryness of the mucous membranes and dry hard stool,
with no peristalsis, a kind of paresis of the rectum where the patient
will go for many days without any urging for stool. No ability to
expel the stool which is as hard as a stone, dry, forming little
balls like sheep dung that adhere together and come out in big masses
with an unbearable, excruciating pain that extends to the thighs.
(Being in a comatose state it was not possible to know if the patient
was feeling any pain or any other sensation.)
Note: Dr. S.K. Mamgain have prepared documentary videos of various
acute, chronic and cancer cases the same can be had from me on CDs
on request, to watch the miraculous results from minute doses of
homoeopathic medicines.
