Two Brief Acute Cases

Case 1: Sudden Pain

Name: Mrs S.

Age/Sex: 65yrs/ F

Date : 27 December 2009

Presenting Complaint: Sudden, severe pain in both legs .

History of Presenting Complaint: She is a hemiplegic patient, who suddenly around 12:30 at night started shouting loudly due to pain in both legs. As we approached her she started shouting “Save me, I will die due to this pain” and tossing in pain restlessly. She is better by warmth of the room heater.

Remedy : Aconite 200.

Basis Of Selection: Suddenness and violence of symptoms.

2. Cause was exposure to drafts of cold air as window above her head end of bed was open.
3. Intolerable pains making the patient frantic and restless.

4.Mental: Fear of dying due to pain.

PRESCRIPTION: Aconite 200 was repeated at intervals of 10 minutes and the patient slept calmly after the 3^rd dose of Aconite and awakened absolutely fine in the morning. There was no trace of pain and the symptoms did not return.

Case 2: Dysmenorrhoea

Name: C

Age/Sex: 16/ F

Date of recording: 15 Sept., 2006

Presenting Complaints: Severe pain in the abdomen since the morning.

History of Presenting Complaints: In morning she had her monthly cycle around 10 days late, then her previous cycles (i.e,4-5days/35-40days). Since then she was having severe pain in her whole abdomen and was tossing restlessly. The menstrual flow was scanty. No specific modalities. For the symptoms she took some household treatment but there was no relief.

On examination abdomen was soft and no abnormality was detected. I gave her Viburnam opulus and then mag phos, but there was no relief. She was calm and quiet despite the severe pain which could be assessed by her facial expression. Then I observed that she would cover herself completely with a blanket off and on with increased tossing and restlessness. I asked about the covering and uncovering? She answered that whenever pain comes there is severe chill and she feels better by covering warmly.

Medicine selected was Pulsatilla 200.

Basis of selection: Main indication is –pain with severe chill. Also, menses late, scanty and pain with restlessness and tossing about.

Result: After a single dose of Pulsatilla 200 she was absolutely free of pain within 10 minutes and by the end of the day menstrual flow was also established. There was no return of symptoms.
