When I started drawing up this presentation of Prof. George Vithoulkas’ courses in Alonissos, I wasn’t sure where to begin. There were so many beautiful experiences, so many wonderful people, so many inspired teachings for this divine therapeutic modality.

The International Academy of Classical Homeopathy (IACH) was founded in 1995, in Alonissos, an island of the Aegean Sea. The courses started in Alonissos in 1979 and were initially taught in the island’s elementary school. Every year since then, hundreds of people—medical doctors, professional homeopaths as well as beginners—have travelled to Alonissos to acquire knowledge directly from Prof. George Vithoulkas. To this day, approximately 15,000 doctors and practitioners from 62 countries around the world have been trained at the Academy.

The courses run from June to mid-July and from the last week of August to the end of September. George Vithoulkas delivers his lectures in English, though consecutive translation into various languages is provided for most courses. A remarkable number of these students keep coming back every year for the last 15-20 years. They often become the best prescribers in their respective countries.

The sessions begin in the morning, from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., and then they continue in the afternoon, from 5.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Students have the opportunity to see Prof. Vithoulkas perform case-taking live in class, along with the patient and the patient’s treating physician. Via closed-circuit video, the students can watch the case-taking process live, from beginning to end.

Afterwards, Prof. Vithoulkas moves to the classroom and the detailed analysis of the case begins. He thoroughly discusses all parameters of the case with his students, analyzes the patient’s level of health, performs differential diagnosis, emphasizes the comparative Materia Medica, and finally, he prescribes the appropriate remedy and potency.

The students have access to the follow-ups of the cases, so they see how the patient’s health progresses, and witness the improvement and healing. Everything happens before their own eyes and they can participate and ask questions at any time. All these cases are recorded on video, constituting a collected treasure of healed cases that can be studied and researched by homeopaths everywhere.

During the courses, the students have the opportunity to ask George Vithoulkas questions on any subject regarding homeopathy. Most of the attending physicians and practitioners are successful prescribers, well-known in their countries, who spend one or even two consecutive months in Alonissos for the courses. In Alonissos, students have the opportunity to meet colleagues from many countries and exchange opinions. Many have become close friends. Together, we discuss methods to better disseminate Classical Hahnemannian Homeopathy and how to facilitate the adoption of George Vithoulkas’ teaching by Medical Universities around the world. In recent years, George Vithoulkas has given his best students the opportunity to teach sessions themselves, during the courses.

At the end of each course, students organize wonderful parties to celebrate along with the new friends they’ve made at the Academy and their families.

For those who cannot experience George Vithoulkas’ teaching live, we have created the e-learning program—a full academic program that has already been adopted by many universities. Many translators, moderators, coordinators and operators are working all over the world to spread the word about this course, which has been taken by students in 73 counties.

We feel proud and blessed to be disseminating knowledge of this unique healing system.
