Homeopathy: Its Time Is Coming

Written by Amy Lansky

The author discusses the current situation regarding modern medicine and how homeopathy, with it’s ‘energy’ dimension, is the medicine of the near future.

Just as Merlin the Magician showed the future King Arthur what it was like to be a fish or bird, a prover who takes a potentized remedy may learn what it’s like to be a scorpion, a dolphin, a flower, or even a mineral!

These days, with “quackbuster” attacks on homeopathy occurring on almost a daily basis, we in the homeopathic world are anxious to prove ourselves on conventional terms. For example, we hope that increased awareness of the many high-quality double-blind placebo-controlled trials of homeopathy will stem the tide of negative media and public opinion. It is certainly true that proving the power of homeopathic treatment in modern scientific terms is important. Studies like those by Rustum Roy [1], Jacques Benveniste [2], and Nobel-prize winner Luc Montagnier [3], which unequivocally demonstrate the information-carrying power of ultradilutions and/or focus on the way a remedy’s information is actually stored within them, may be even more important, because they not only demonstrate a potential mechanism for homeopathy, but might also help us improve the delivery of our homeopathic remedies to patients.

But have you ever wondered why the quackbusters and their media spokespeople are so pervasive and persistent right now? For one thing, there is ample evidence that they are funded by big pharma [4]—perhaps the deepest pockets now on our planet. And the truth is, big pharma does have a reason to fear. As I pointed out in my December 2009 article in the Mercola Newsletter [5], if the results of researchers like Benveniste and Montagnier become more widely accepted, people will realize that any substance- including allopathic drugs—can be potentized and manufactured at virtually zero cost. That would spell the end of big pharma.

But there may actually be a more profound reason for the rise of the quackbusters. As Bob Dylan said, “The times they are a’changing.” Slowly but surely, a new and deeper kind of awareness and consciousness is spreading across the globe. Once relegated to the “New Age” set or to mystics, more and more people in the mainstream are engaging in meditation and are beginning to develop an awareness that humanity, nature, and the Earth itself are all interconnected on a deeper level. We may be on the cusp of a revolution in human consciousness. And a world populated by more deeply conscious humans will also be a world in which alternative energy-based medicines, like homeopathy, will be the norm.

Of course, the desperation of big Pharma is a symptom of the desperation of conventional medicine overall. The writing is on the wall for them. Allopathy is failing, creating deeper disease, or becoming too toxic to bear, and people are turning away bit by bit, some out of financial necessity, but many out of increased awareness of the reality of the energy body, the vital force. So rather than trying to convince people that homeopathic treatment is as good as an allopathic pill, perhaps our strategy should be to reach out more effectively to the growing number of people who are evolving and “waking up.” We need to let them know that homeopathy is perhaps the best and most complete form of “spiritual” energy-based medicine. After all, most homeopaths and many homeopathic patients know this to be true. Why not flaunt it, at least in the appropriate circles?

It is also wise to remember something interesting about the 1800’s, the time in which homeopathy experienced its greatest growth and acceptance. This was also a time in which spiritual beliefs were very much in vogue among the elite, and indeed, many homeopaths were involved in religious movements tied to this ethos, the Swedenborgian Church being most notable (whose ideology influenced the great American homeopath James Tyler Kent and through him, the practice of homeopathy worldwide). Perhaps the confluence of such beliefs and the growth of homeopathy was not an accident. Many people at that time understood their reality in a different way and were thus more open to a form of medicine that operated in a different way too. The same explanation might underlie the immense popularity and acceptance of homeopathy in India.

Of course, much of this was swept away with the advance of modern science in the early 1900’s, and along with it, the rise of modern drugs and allopathy. But the times they are a’changing. Humanity isn’t exactly returning to the mystical views of the past, but rather, is incorporating a deeper, more “spiritual” element into science itself. The science of people like Roy, Benveniste, and Montagnier is finally catching up with homeopathy. And so is the consciousness of humanity. Homeopathy’s time is coming.

I have been deeply interested in the more mystical side of reality for a long time, and especially how it can be understood from a scientific perspective. My new book, Active Consciousness: Awakening the Power Within (www.activeconsciousness.com) [7], weaves together research on psychic phenomena and energy-based medicines like homeopathy, and information gleaned from a wide variety of esoteric sources (Kabbalah, Gurdjieff, Steiner etc). I hope you enjoy the following excerpts. ( The material below may not be copied or quoted without explicit permission of the author. )

Excerpts from Chapter 12

“[One] way many have explained the inherent interconnectivity of our universe is in terms of a hologram [8]. I distinctly remember the first time I saw this type of device in action, at the Haunted House at Disneyland. By projecting two-dimensional laser-light images of a woman’s head and creating an interference pattern between them…, an eerie three-dimensional moving image of the woman’s head was produced inside a glass jar. Today, of course, holograms are embedded in many common objects, from credit cards to children’s toys.

One piece of evidence for the holographic nature of the zero-point field [a proposed unified field whose content is accessible everywhere, encodes all that has ever occurred, and incorporates all other known energetic fields]… is that they share a common feature: a sensitivity to similarity in vibration. For instance, if a holographic image has many different holograms embedded within it, shining a laser of a specific frequency upon it will cause only those holograms made with lasers of the same frequency to stand out. That’s because things with the same vibration naturally resonate and reinforce one another, just as two violin strings at the same pitch resonate and amplify one another.

This property of resonance has been used to explain how each of us might interact with these mysterious fields. For instance, one might reasonably ask: if the zero-point field… encodes everything that has ever happened and if we humans have access to it, why aren’t we aware of all of this encoded information? The answer, is that people tend to pick up only that with which they personally “resonate.” In other words, each individual’s resonant frequency, determined by their life experience, physical body, and energy body, limits what they can perceive.

[Biologist] Rupert Sheldrake agrees. His theory of morphic resonance also depends upon similarity in vibration. Members of the same species, being “on the same wavelength” are able to tap into information that pertains uniquely to them. And while members of an entire species might be able to tune into a fairly broad spectrum of frequencies (think of Carl Jung’s notion of the collective unconscious) humans supposedly tap into [9] smaller, more tightly connected groups, such as members of the same family or loving couples, resonate in more focused zones of vibration; they have access to their own “private frequency.” In fact, Sheldrake goes even further and suggests that morphic fields can explain how human memory operates. Instead of being stored in our brains, he suggests that memories are stored in the morphic field. Our brains then pick them up via resonance, like radios tuning to their own private stations…

Synchronicity and Fields of Meaning

Similarity in vibration has also been used to explain the phenomenon of synchronicity, “coincidences” of seemingly unrelated events that share a common meaning. A typical example of synchronicity is when a beloved clock or watch of an individual breaks or stops at the precise moment of his or her death…. [Such] examples of synchronicity demonstrate a key point, the universe may not be operating like a cold, meaningless machine after all. Instead, the reality we experience each day may be flooded with fields of meaning. Each field of meaning has a particular vibration to it, and objects, individuals, emotions, dreams, and events with similar vibrations will tend to resonate with one another and then co-occur. This is what creates synchronicities.”

Excerpts from Chapter 13 – A Meaningful Cure

“The powerful influence of similarity in vibration has also made its way into healing. In fact, it is the very foundation of homeopathy, an alternative system of medicine originally developed in Germany in the early 1800’s. The word “homeopathy” literally means similar (homeo) suffering (pathy), and practitioners of homeopathy choose medicines for their patients based on a principle of cure called the Law of Similars. Homeopathy is the science of healing based on similarity of vibration. Bring two things of like vibration together, a remedy and a patient—and the effect will be a cure of the patient’s disease…

Of course, the most controversial thing about homeopathy is the way in which homeopathic remedies are made. This process, called potentization, involves a sequence of steps in which a substance is repeatedly diluted and vigorously shaken. In fact, for most remedies, these dilutions are so extreme that they do not contain even a single molecule of the original substance! Nevertheless, homeopaths have found that the higher the dilution, the more potent a remedy can be. They believe this is possible because the energetic signature of a substance is captured by the potentization process. In other words, potentization enables the innate vibrational quality of a substance in nature to be unleashed and harnessed. It is this vibration that evokes the symptoms caused by a remedy, and it is also this vibratory signature that enables a remedy to cure a similar vibratory state in a patient. Like vibrations cure like vibrations… And consider this: The Law of Similars may also be a fundamental property of the zero-point field.

Water: A Potent Carrier of Information

Although homeopathy has been the target of skeptics and critics since Hahnemann’s time, open-minded scientists are finally beginning to get an inkling of how the remedies might be working. Recent studies have shown that the encoding of information in homeopathic dilutions is not about their chemical composition. It’s more about the bonding structures between the molecules within them. Apparently, the shaking process (also called succussion) performed during homeopathic potentization, is the critical step that develops these structures.

In 2007, a prominent researcher in the field of structured water, Professor Rustum Roy of Pennsylvania State University, showed for the first time that extreme homeopathic dilutions are not mere water, but highly structured arrangements of water molecules. In fact, various types of instruments in Roy’s laboratory were able to pick up the distinct signatures of different remedies, even at levels of dilution in which no remedy substance likely remained [10]…

Despite the skepticism of most scientists, the amazing power of water to encode fields of meaning has certainly captured the general public’s imagination. Consider the immense popularity of a New York Times bestseller by Masaru Emoto, The Hidden Messages in Water [11]. In it, Emoto claims that specific words, music, or thoughts can affect water in a directly visible way, in the form of ice crystals, which he photographed.

Whether or not Emoto’s claims are correct, the effectiveness of homeopathic remedies and the work of scientists like Rustum Roy, Jacques Benveniste, and Luc Montagnier do demonstrate that water possesses a unique quality—the ability to pick up and transmit specific energetic signatures of physical substances. This is something that the founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann, discovered in the early 1800’s, and it is something that we should all think about, since our bodies are made up of more than 50% water. Water is life. And water may also play an important role in connecting us to the fields of meaning that surround us.

The Meaning of Disease

The power of potentization is indeed one of the landmark discoveries of homeopathy. It provides us with a method for capturing the energetic signature of any substance in nature. But perhaps even more significant is homeopathy’s therapeutic principle, the Law of Similars, because it says something specific about how fields of meaning operate and interact. There may even be a direct relationship between the Law of Similars and synchronicity.

Homeopathy and other holistic medical systems have long recognized that disease is a body-mind affair. That is why each patient manifests a unique pattern of mental, emotional, and physical symptoms, a pattern that is an outward representation of his or her vibratory state. Each homeopathic remedy is also associated with a vibration… Homeopathic remedies are curative because they share the same synchronistic field as a disease and therefore can replace it within a patient’s body. Hahnemann proposed essentially the same explanation in the early 1800’s for the operation of his remedies upon what he called the dynamis or vital force, the energetic etheric field that encompasses the physical body.

The fact that homeopathy has worked for millions of people for 200 years says a lot about the power of the Law of Similars. But it also says something about fields of meaning and their relationship to us in disease and in health…

Paranormal Medicine?

A couple of other phenomena witnessed in the homeopathic world are worth mentioning. Because they border on the paranormal, they are rarely openly discussed. Both tend to occur during provings, the homeopathic drug trials. The object of these trials is to see what pattern of symptoms a substance will create in healthy volunteers. Today’s provings are conducted using modern techniques like double-blinding and placebo controls. Thus, some test subjects (called provers) are given placebo and others are given the actual remedy. Since the trials are also blinded, neither the provers nor their supervisors who collect symptom information know who has been given a real remedy or a placebo, nor the identity of the substance being tested. Nevertheless, the following phenomena have consistently been observed during many trials.

First, it has been noticed that the moment a prover forms the intention to participate in a proving, they often begin to experience symptoms that are later found to be characteristic of the remedy, long before the trial actually begins. While this doesn’t happen to all provers, it happens frequently enough to be noteworthy. By simply intending to join a remedy trial, a prover may enter into the field of meaning of the remedy substance. And just as paranormal phenomena often defy the normal constraints of time and space, the fields of meaning created by homeopathic remedies may as well.

The second remarkable thing about provings is that the symptoms developed by provers often directly reflect the nature of the substance from which a remedy is made. This is most clear in the case of remedies made from animal substances. There are dozens of such remedies, including those made from a variety of mammal milks, snake venoms, and insect poisons. In nearly every case, the symptoms evoked by them reflect the nature of the animal itself…

Think of it. The process of potentization may provide us with a method for accessing the very essence of the natural world. Just as Merlin the Magician showed the future King Arthur what it was like to be a fish or bird, a prover who takes a potentized remedy may learn what it’s like to be a scorpion, a dolphin, a flower, or even a mineral!… Our entire universe may be intricately and intimately interconnected through vibration and meaning.
