Does anyone have information on homeoopathic treatment of diabetes with cats?  I have a friend whose cat not only has diabetes, but cancer "in the abdomen" is all her vet said, and sent her home to deal with this very sick kitty.  Any suggestions, both on diabetes separately and then on diabetes with cancer.

Thanks,

Alphonse

First of all I`d like to know if the kitten needs the hormone insulin for the diabetes or is the diabetes a milder case ? For milder cases homeopathic treatment is possible.

Secondly what kind of cancer has the kitten ?  Is it FeLV related ? E.g in the intestine and colon ? There is a nosode availble (FLV nosode 30c) to support the action of other indicated remedies such as Ars.alb.,  Ars. iod., Iodum, Calc. fluor.,  Ceanothus, Phosphorus(tumour of the liver)

I`ll give the main symptoms for FeLV (Feline Leukaemia Virus) :

Fever, weakness, loss of appetite, wasting, anaemia and reduced resistance to disease, sometimes vomiting and/or diarrhoea. Cancers are also associated with FeLV infection, the most common of which are known as lymphosarcomas. These may be found in the lymph glands e.g. swellings developing under the chin, in the small intestine and colon or in the kidneys. Tumours may also develop in the nervous system or in the eye.  In spite of the name Leukaemia, this symptom is uncommon. (i.e. there are no excess white cells in the blood).

To support the immune system and improve the kitten`s general condition give : Baptisia 3c or 6x, 6c or 12x or 30x or 30c. Dose every 2 hrs. up to 6 times on the first day, then 3-4 times daily until the appetite returns and the general condition improves.

Regards, Wim.

Continuation FeLV.

Laboratory tests can be carried out on blood, saliva, tears, but interpretation of results needs to be done by a skilled person, as false negatives and positives do occur !

Infection may persist for longer periods, some cats that do recover and cease to shed virus will still react positively to the antibody test!

FeLV does not infect humans or animals (which are not cats).

FeLV suppresses the natural immune system, reduces its normal activity and facilitates the entry into the body of other viruses and bacteria. Because FeLV is also found in the saliva of infected cats, it can be transmitted by cats licking each other. Young kittens under 4 months of age are very susceptible to FeLV infection and thereafter a gradual resistance develops, but this can be overcome by exposure to heavy doses of virus e.g. by introducing a susceptible cat into an infected household. FeLV has a long incubation period, which may extend to months or even years in some cases. If a young or middle-aged cat frequently becomes ill and takes time to recover, FeLV should be considered !

Thanks Wim:  I will ask her to try and get more information on the cat Zoe, meanwhile yes she is on insulin, has been for a long time, is 12 years old, and her mother died of breast cancer.  Hmm, I'm thinking Carcinosin, and then something else.

I'll be back in touch,

Alphonse

Hello Alph. In the meantime order some Ornithogalum umbellatum mother tincture and Carcinosin 30c (or Scirrhinum 30c), because you will most probably need them and otherwise they may arrive too late !

Wim, would the Bach flower remedy, Star of Bethlehem, be effective for the pain relief?  I only ask as it might be immediately available at a local health food store.  I know it's a different prep, I have both and have used both, but in the event there is an emergency, would it be useful, do you think?

Alphonse, my best wishes to Zoe.  And to her person.

No, usually not. It`s better for psychosomatic disorders, resulting from an unsolved energetic shock which took place  recently or a long time ago.  But there will be no harm in trying. I like your (clever) way of thinking though, since Star of Bethlehem (bird`s milk)is also made of Ornithogalum umbellatum ! Star of Bethlehem is sometimes excellent for a shocking event which the person involved is no longer aware of, but hasn`t actually got over with.It is sometimes used for skin problems, chronic bowel problems (slow action), inflammation of joints( but for this homeopathy is far better), nervous swallowing complaints, nervous asthma, different hysterical symptoms, after childbirth, severe menstrual bleedings, etc.

Hello G, Don`t get confused with the name bird`s milk. It`s the name we use (Dutch: vogelmelk= bird`s milk) for the Orn. umb. variety.

Hello Alphonse, Yes, to be sure it`s there when needed. (I think 20 ml will do).

Mother tincture is the (botanical/vegetable) starting alcoholic liquid from which homeopathic potencies are made. This tincture may also be used therapeutically in material doses (drop doses), either internally or topically.

Ornithogalum umbellatum (Star of Bethlehem) is a kind of lily, other varieties of which are Ornithogalum nutans and tenuifolia. The umbellatum is also a cancer remedy.
