Can anyone advise me on the best homeopathic remedy to use on my springer spaniel ear / feet problem?

She is ten years old and in the summer she had very sore ears which I tried to treat with drops. I keep her ears clipped short so she has plenty of air circulating, and she has never had a problem before. After a week I realised that the drops were not working so I took her to the vet who kept her in saying that the infection was so bad it had perferated both her ear drums. She was anaethatised and they thoroughly cleaned her ears and sent her home with antibiotics and steroids, and told me not use drops.

Everything was fine until the tablets ran out, then her ears swelled again and became very sore. So back to the vets for more tablets and she was fine again. Anyway the long and the short of it is that I have been told that she must stay on steroids permanently. During the whole process she has also been chewing her feet- between her pads, except when she is on the steroids.

Since being on the steroids she cannot get enough food, which is very unlike her so it must be linked, so I would very much like to treat her with another remedy so she turns back to the dog she once was.

Please can anyone help?

Hi han1tea,

can you descibe what your dog was like when she was O.K.? what happened to her begining about the time of the ear trouble? what is the state of the ears,is she in pain? frantic/lethargic? are there certain times she is worse? is she cold/hot, anything out of the ordinary for her? anything different about her behavior since the outbreak?

regards

Hi Parachute

before the ear problems she was just a typical spaniel- easily excitable but generally calm, and just enjoyed life. The first I noticed was her scratching her ears, holding her head to one side and then chewing her feet whilst she was lying down. The ear flaps became very red, hot and inflamed and the skin was dry, crusty and sore to touch.

Also I forgot to mention that she also chewed her back end around the base of her tail. This made the vet think that it was being caused by a pollen allergy.

However since being on the steroids she has become very frantic- she pants and trembles sometimes when there is no reason, generally she does this in anicipation to having her diner, so this again is linked to the steroids and being perminantley hungry.

So in answer to your question nothing specific happened before the problem started.

I hope this helps.

Well han,

something kicked this off, ten years old and now allergic to pollen? from what you have told me,  there are two Rx I would try, Graphites 30c in the mouth,or you can mix in with the food if she puts up resistance, don't touch with the hands, drop it in the cap and tip it in, three times in one day and wait to see what happens.

the other is pulsatilla. 30c. but try graph first.

keep us informed, good luck

foregot to mention, steroids and remedies don't get on too well, if you decide to try this you have to stop giving steroids for at least a couple of days. regards
