Hi William:
My dog broke her toenail a month ago. The vet prescribed the antibiotic Apo-Cephalex (750 mg twice a day for 10 days). When that didn't reduce the redness or the swelling, she increased the dosage to 1000 mg twice a day for 14 days. We are nine days into the second regimen of antibiotics, and the toe still looks bad (red and white) -- perhaps abcessed. (Is there a way for me to forward a photo to you?)
We bought some Calendula spray two days ago, and are spraying the toe twice a day. Our dog walks 2 km in the morning and 1 km in the evening. After each walk, we soak her foot in an epsom salts solution, then apply the Calendula. We put a cone over her head to prevent licking.
Are we on the right track? Can you suggest something else?
Thank you very much.
Steve
