I have 4 cats, one of them-who I got first-is around 5 years old male with some behavioral issues. He's very jealous and territorial, vocalizes a LOT especially at really inopportune hours. I think he's somewhat driven crazy by neighborhood cats who occasionally will urinate outside the front door. He is neutered, is a rescue cat whom I got when he was I think around 1 year old. May have been a stray prior. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately it's not convenient to recommend remedies online, but I think there is a lot of hope for your catSmile. You can consult a veterinary homeopath and I'm sure you'll get the correct remedy. Wink
If you want to discuss it later, we can do it.

Hello G Michael,

Your cat sounds like he is not impressed with the threat to his territory from outsiders prowling too close to HIS boundary.

I can make a few suggestions, they are not specifically homeopathy, but they may help, and you can follow up later with homeopathy if they do not help[:

I would discourage outside cats form spraying YOUR (and your cat's)  door/s by putting a pot plant of Rue there.  Cats usually hate the smell of Rue, so do not get it on you before yoU go indoors! Also put a little "donation" in the pot plant from your cat to suggest that the territory is NOT available. This may help the cat pee on the door issue, which you do not need, whether your cat says so or not!
Initially also spray a lot of cat-pee destink spray around the plant pot - just to emphasize the point to local would-be outdoor territorial fellows.

Then for your cat, get him some new toys to distract him - play with him at a specific chosen time of day EVERy day so he counts on it - it builds his self-confidence and feeling of security. Add a new perch or two with a good window view from a high vantage point ("topcat" has relevance physically as well as emotionally to cats.)

As for your kitty remedy-wise, I suggest a Bach remedy be offered or put in his water. It is a flower remedy system to help emotional issues, that was inspired by homeopathy but has different principles - for example you can not overdose or get adverse issues from the wrong one - so it is worth a try.

The trick is to find the ideal mix for your cat. Based on your email, perhaps this one (3 drops each in a cup of water, shake hard 100 times, use 1 teasp per cup per day in his water for 2 or 3 months.):

Vine: For dominance feelings.
Wild Oat: For finding something new to do.
Vervain: For those with intense personality, noisy behavior with a sense of purpose etc
Mimulus:  For any specific fears (assuming he may feel threatened by the outside cat)
Heather: Add this if you feel he is worse from being lonely if left on his own.

You should be able to find Bach remedies at a good Health Food store.
It's a bit pricey to buy 5 of them, they no longer make the tiny bottles.
A few places will mix what you want - the three drops of each you need - that is a hard to find as the FDA likes to butt in and stop such sensible things.

They really are nice remedies though, excellent for emotional issues that are not deep pathologies.
There's a bit more about them on my own Bach web page here:

Let us know how it works?

Well, I was finally able to get my cat on a few Bach remedies, but it appears to me that the problem is actually deeper and is going to require homeopathic treatment.

His vocalising has really gotten bad, at all hours. The only thing he wants in the WORLD is to go outside, which of course he's not allowed to do. The previous neighborhood cats have all disappeared so I don't think he's being antagonized, other than his usual love/hate relationship with the 2 younger cats (they love him, he hates them).

He is clearly losing weight and has constant accumulation of eye discharge the last week or so. He MIGHT be sleeping more, but I can't really tell. His yowling episodes seem to primarily be a couple days on, a couple days off. He is eating, but has the weird habit of 'foraging' for water. Meaning, he'll rarely drink from the communal water dish, but would rather drink out of your cup, or try to get water out of a faucet or a puddle in the shower.

I can't really pin down a time of day for better, as it seems to vary. I frequently have to put him in his room by himself because he drives me crazy with the constant yowling and trying to work the latch on the door. Some time in "solitary" seems to chill him out. Sometimes. Other times he comes out and goes right back to yowling.

Picking him up and paying attention to him helps temporarily, but then he gets bored, jumps down, goes right back to the front door and starts yowling and scrabbling at it.He doesn't really like to play the way other cats do. I got a laser pointer that has the other cats full attention, but he doesn't really like it. He tried to bite the dot a few times, but otherwise isn;t interested. He doesn't really like toys very much either. He'll occasionally play chase with one of the other three, but not really. The closest he comes to playing is to torment the older female cat by chasing her and making her scream.

He LOVES humans. Any human that comes into the house he will instantly run up to for attention. However he's usually having to compete for this attention with the other, younger male who is even more attention-greedy than he is. This of course makes him sulk.

The other male alternately tries to play with/be friendly to him and antagnizes him. Despite being the first cat in the family (and lder than the other male), I get the sense that he's not really the alpha cat. He tries...he bullies the two younger ones, but Bluto-the other male-will antagonize him by flopping next to him and sort of rollign around, which INFURIATES him for some reason. If Claudia, the younger female, comes anywhere near him he will hiss/growl and smack at her. Same with Bluto. Poe, the older female (who at 6 is 1 year lder than him) he actually seems to like, and she seems to like him...at least until he starts tormenting her. When he and Bluto get nto territory competition, Viggo makes a lot of noise and fights with Bluto, but despite being older, bigger, and here first, he will eventually run off yowling and hissing.

He always sleeps with me at night. In fact the second my back hits the bed, hes sitting on top of my chest and getting comfortable. He has the odd somewhat recent habit of doing the 'kneading' thing but insisting on doing it on your face. If you move his paw, he moves it back. He's a purr machine too. Doesn't even wait to be pet. As soon as he sits down, it's lawnmower time.

He unfortunately has been the victim of my temper more than once d/t waking in the middle of the night (please reserve judgment here, folks. Trying to give an accurate intake). This probably has not helped him. Grabbing him by the scruff, throwing a pillow at him, etc. He usually will make a run for it, while still yowling. I of course will catch him and throw him in his room. We'll usually end up having make up time later after we've both calmed down.

I can't really pick out any fears, other than me when he knows he's in trouble. Even then he seems to be willfully disobedient. I don't know if this is negative attention seeking or what. If he's yowlign at the door and you yell "VIGGO!" he will quite literally turn around and do the cat version of "WHAT?!?!?!"

He's easily overstimulated. You cant really pet him on his body, even when he flops for you, for more than a few seconds or else he loses it and bites you. And when he bites, he REALLY bites. Sometimes he will clamp onto your hand and bite so hard that you can fel his jaws shake with the effort.

He still insists on randomly urinating by my desk and in the closet. He'll even do it in front of you but if you make any kind of aggressive noise, he runs for it (and yowls).

He always waits by the window if I'm gone and is "daddy's doorbell". As soon as he sees I'm coming to the door, he drops down by the door and starts with the noise.

He likes to sleep mostly on my bed or on top of the nice warm cable box. All the cats are allowed to sit/sleep anywhere they want to in the house. Unfortunately I have yet to be able to get them to stop shredding EVERYTHING, despite giving them a few items that I make clear its ok for them to scratch and other things that its clearly NOT ok. They seem to do it anyway, even when sharp noises are made or the water bottle comes out. they just run off and come back later.

He prefers to lie on his stomach, stretched out as far as he can go, or curled up typical cat style.

He was a rescue cat, I don't know much about his life before I got him 4 years ago. i think he may have been a stray. He had the usual full panel of vaccinations when the rescue group picked him up as far as I know.

I've only taken him to the vet once, for tapeworms 3 years ago. My cats have recurring tapeworm problems which I have not had a whole lot of luck against with the typical OTC stuff. i don't know if he has them since the trip to the vet though. I don't see the telltale signs with him, unlike the other 3.

That's what I have. I hope someone can offer some suggestions or at least some tips for repertorizing the case as I don't have much of a feel for how to treat animals.

@Michael: I met cats like that and they were Hyosciamus, the remedy worked. Only he-cats so far.

1. jealousy (and needs a alot of attention)
2. big sex drive  (and because of that they need freedom to be out when they want, otherwise they get "pissed off and piss eveyrhing aroun")
3. get angry when they dont get attaention or otehr cats are present and they show when they are jealous, like kids.. they can stay angry for days.
3. usually the get bladder infections or show their anger by urinating around

Check Hyosciamus, specially the psihological profile.

Your cat sounds very alike with the cats I met

Oh good call. I hadn't thought of Hyos. Makes a lot of sense though. I think I'll give it a shot. he's actually doing a little better physically in the last week, thought he is still yowling a lot. His eyes aren't bothering him as much and he doesn't seem as skinny. I'll definitely look into trying Hyos though. Thanks for the tip!

fond of humang beeings, curious and... they even masturbate and play with the genitals!

If the remedy matches I guess 30 should be the least. I would try 30 or 200.

Michael,

did you give already the remedy to the cat ?

If not please use a paper written remedy first and check the changes

Read my other thread how to do it

This way we can proove the non-believers, that there is no placebo involved with a paper written remedy and I am pretty sure your cat is Hysociamus.

http://www.hpathy.com/homeopathyforums/forum_posts.asp?TID=10635

You and your cat cad contribute (if the remedy is RIGHT only) to the science of homeopathy..

Keep us informed of the changes (if any)..  use  "Hyoscyamus C200" word

Also, do you think it matters that I've never come into contact with Hyos? And only sort of understand it?

UPDATE:

Ok here's what i did:

got an 8 oz plastic bottle of spring water, emptied out half of it. took off the label. got a piece of typing paper, cut a piece to fit the bottle. wrote "hyoscyamus niger 30c" on it. put it in my pharmacy, turned off the lights, closed the curtains, let it sit for 30 mins. brought it home, sucussed 6 times. poured a couple tbsp int 4 oz of water, let the cat drink a little bit of it, tossed the cup out, kept the remedy bottle. now, watchign n waiting.

couldn't care less if it works or not. experimenting is exciting!

besides, daoist doctors have been doing something like this for a couple thousand years. its called Fu talismans. still in practice too. fu talismans though involve the inscription on the paper. the way they do water remedies is a little different. involves a glass of water and sort of 'inscribing' the character you would have used in the fu in the air over the glass of water along with an incantation (peculiar hand positioning too of course). then the guy jabs his fingers in the water to charge it, then puts a ittle in his mouth and sprays it on you (gross!) then has you drink the rest of it.

even odder, theres a bonesetter in beijing who works with liquor. you bring him a bottle of vodka or something, he drinks a bunch of it, then promptly vomits it right back onto the fracture (ewww!). fracture healed. a VERY reputable multi-discipline doc i follow has been to the guy and saw him cure a greenstick fractured leg in one sitting. pretty badass. except for the puking.

anyway, "western" culture is the pinnacle of self enforced ignorance and arrogance. we decide that WE are the standard by which everything lives and dies. if we cant immediately understand how something can be dne, then its impossible and should be scorned. publicly. its shameful that there are homeopaths that do this, because if theres one group of people with no right to the Q word and no right to say that something CANT be true and therefore MUST NOT be true (hello logical fallacy), its the homeopaths. remember, the rest of the world thinks youre crazy or liars and charlatans out to steal peoples money. #1 might be true, but you and your patients know that #2 isnt. you know it works, you studied it, you do it, people get well. end of story. so for the benefit of some of the homeopathic "skeptics" (the most ridiculous oxymoron ever), uhh yah..good luck with your skepticism. hope it keeps you warm at night.

for everyone else, hey, im as curious as you to see what great wonders this world still has to offer us before our enlightened society blows it the f up.

Hi Michael,  its very ok how the way you did. I have never tried a 30 potency so far this way, but I see no reason it should not work.

I am looking forward to the results and I hope it was the right remedy at least.

Yeah, you are right the way you put it... thanks for sharing the experiments..:-)

Well, dosed around 430 i think. not sure of the effect yet. POSSIBLY an aggravation, as he has been absolutely intolerable since then esp. with the yowling. Will treat it like a normal case, see what happens.

Yeah, I can say without any doubt that it's not helping him. He's still intolerably loud. :P Now for the control factor, when my Hyos. 30C arrives, I'll give it to him and see what he does.

Then it was the wrong remedy ! You should have checked Hyos better, I only told the symptoms I met in the cats I treated here.  Look for another one...
