Acids – a Group Analysis. Dr. Manish Bhatia discusses the materia medica of all acid remedies in homeopathy with comparison and common features of acid group.

The materia medica by ‘William Boericke’ lists the following acids in use as homeopathic medicines:

The most common and characteristic symptoms of acids are:

(1.) Exhaustion, Prostration:

Mental exhaustion: Picric acid, Acetic acid, Flouric acid, Muriatic acid, Nitric acid, Sulphuric acid.

Emotional exhaustion: Phosphoric acid, Acetic acid.

Physical exhaustion: Muriatic acid.

(2.) Active, Hurried:

Overdose of activity :exhausted yet wants to do a lot.

No complaints, they are merely overactive.

Hurriedness leads to a tired feeling, which further leads to exhaustion.

They force their will upon the situation in spite of opposition, until they cannot go further. They cannot accept things not going their way. Cannot let go. They feel they have to fight their own battles.

(6.) Generality:

Physique: fair, thin

Some other common features of acids are their increased sexual appetite and the problems resulting from that; Anxiety and irritability, which is more marked in mineral acids than acids derived from plant sources; Hypersensitiveness esp., to noise; Dullness and sluggishness, with difficulty in comprehending; Forgetfulness, which is again more marked in mineral acids; Indisposition to talk and desire to remain silent.

On the physical plane the acids show following common characters:

(1.) Extreme prostration, with aversion to do any physical or mental work.
(2.) Paralytic conditions, esp. with spinal irritation.
(3.) Irritation of mucous membranes leading to varied complaints.
(4.) Stitching pains, with sense of constriction.
(5.) Gangrenous and ulcerative conditions.
(6.) Hoarseness, and inflammatory conditions of lungs.
(7.) Hemorrhagic tendency. All acids tend to check hemorrhages.
(8.) Discharges are usually thin, dark, and foul smelling.
(9.) Gouty conditions, with inflammation of synovial membranes.
(10.) Anemic conditions.
(11.) Dryness of mucus membranes, in spite of profuse mucus discharge.
(12.) Increased sexual desire.
(13.) All complaints are usually Sycotic or Tubercular in nature.
