This has proven, especially at the national level, to be very complicated. Existing attempts to organize have centered on medical training, homeopathy training, licensure, certification, or theory of homeopathy. Homeopathy is politically the weakest whole medical system in this country, in large part because there is no national organization which represents the interests of all homeopaths. Organizing based on licensure or certification, the main ways our community has tried to organize, cannot be effective for at least two reasons. * There is historically a strong feeling that the needs of the unlicensed homeopaths are different than those of the licensed. * The regulation of health care practitioners is on a state by state basis. There is no federal regulation of health care practitioners. Each state has at least 20 different licensed health care modalities. This means that there are at least 1,000 different regulatory schemes that homeopathy could fall under. Many licensed health care practitioners cannot practice homeopathy under the scope of their license. The practice of homeopathy by unlicensed persons has statutory support in only 5 states. Thus, it makes little sense for the unlicensed practitioners to distinguish themselves by lack of a license, since so many practitioners with licenses cannot practice homeopathy under the scope of their license. What is needed is a mechanism for organizing based on criteria that is neutral with regard to training, certification, and licensure, and which fits with ...

Council for Homeopathic Certification

Medical Ethics

http://www.homeopathicdirectory.com/ Code of Professional Ethics The Council for Homeopathic Certification (CHC) considers the following principles to be guides to the ethical practice of homeopathy, and to be morally binding on all homeopaths: Ideals The homeopath’s high and only calling is to restore the sick to health—to heal, as it is termed—as defined by Samuel Hahnemann in the Organon. Interactions with Patients/Clients Conduct the homeopathic practice with vigilance, integrity, and freedom from prejudice, and treat all patients with respect and dignity. Make every appropriate effort to be available and accessible to ill patients requiring assistance. Never guarantee a cure, by spoken word or in writing. Assist patients in weighing the possible benefits and risks of other (nonhomeopathic) types of treatment, helping them to consider conventional diagnostic procedures, routine screening tests, and therapies—acknowledging the usefulness of such procedures at appropriate times, even for those who may wish to avoid conventional treatment. Render assistance to patients in emergency situations, to the greatest extent permitted by training and circumstances. Practice within areas of competence. Consult with colleagues, or refer clients to other practitioners, in any situation involving conflict, inadequate training, or personal limitation—such as, but not limited to, any of the following: • When any aspect of the patient’s case requires greater experience, training, or skill than the practitioner can offer. • When there is a need for diagnostic tests or procedures beyond the capacity of the homeopath • When the homeopath’s care is not providing reasonable and timely resolution of the patient’s health ...

Methods To Avoid In Homeopathic Practice: Ethics

Richard H. These concepts include the use of so-called complex remedies, potency chords and sarcodes, the treatment for diagnostic categories, the favoured description of unproved or so-called small remedies, dream and meditation provings as well as the prescription on the basis of psychological aspects, grouping of remedies or through use of psychic methods like kinesiology. —————————————————- Richard Pitcairn http://www.grundlagen-praxis.de Samuel Hahnemann developed and perfected homeopathic practice for over 50 years. As a science it was founded on some very important principles which are both a guide to clinical work and a basis for ethical practice. In a simplified way, these principles are: 1. Medicines can stimulate a healing reaction from the body if they are able to disturb the health of the individual in a way that is very similar to that person’s natural disease, e.g., by establishing an artificial medicinal disease that is much like the natural disease. 2. Medicines, if similar in their effects, have the ability to do this because the patient is abnormally sensitive to their influence. Introduction Patients rely upon, and have a right to be able to place trust in, their healthcare practitioners, who must therefore maintain high standards of care, competence and conduct. Fellow healthcare practitioners also deserve respect and have a right to be treated properly. This Code of Ethics and Practice summarises the standards set by the Alliance of Registered Homeopaths (ARH). All its registered members (referred to as members in this document) agree to abide by the Code, which offers guidance on the observance of the standards, indicates areas where particular challenges may arise, and forms the basis for assessing the professional conduct of any member against whom a complaint has been made – though it in no way restricts anyone’s legal rights in the event of a complaint. Such a code cannot be all inclusive, but it does set out the principles of ethical professional conduct as a guide to all concerned. Members should be aware that standards of good practice have been agreed throughout the profession in the form of the National Occupational Standards for Homeopathy. Ideally, members should be acquainted with the recommendations set out in these Standards, copies of which are available from the Improvement and Development Agency (tel. 020 7296 6600). In healthcare, many decisions fall into areas where there is no absolute right or wrong and where a series of conflicting obligations may have to be considered. The principles laid out in this Code and in the National ...

Code of Ethics and Practice – The Society of Homeopaths

Medical Ethics

Code of Ethics and Practice Revised August 2004 Introduction This Code and its Appendices call for careful observation by all members of the Society of Homeopaths who are qualified and insured to practise, and by those students following Society recognised courses. Those studying homeopathy are recommended to become familiar with it as part of their preparation for practice. It also serves to guide and inform anyone interested in homeopathic treatment, demonstrating the standards that are established and maintained for professional homeopaths. Professional homeopaths have a duty to their patients, the public, their colleagues and their profession. An independent individual who is not bound by a professional code of conduct may behave (subject to criminal and civil law) as he or she pleases when dealing with the public, regardless of the interests of patients or the reputation of the profession as a whole. A professional homeopath has, by becoming a member of the Society, agreed to be bound by and to observe this Code of Ethics, and to supply the Society with a signed statement to witness this agreement (which includes any future amendments); to abide by and observe the Memorandum and Articles of Association, regulations and pronouncements of the Society; to secure and maintain full medical malpractice and liability insurance in accordance with the decisions of the Board of Directors of the Society; to advise the Professional Conduct Department immediately in the event of any police or governmental (including local government) inquiry into their practice, and to submit to the ...
