Over 27 years of Homoeopathic practice in a semi urban area of India, I have had the privilege to treat many unusual acute cases and many chronic cases too. I have found the efficacy of the system in very severe acute diseases far higher than in chronic cases. Chronic cases are difficult to treat due to well known reasons stated by Hahnemann himself and several authors after him. Many of these cases are inherently incurable such as Cancer and most cases of asthma and eczema. The very unpredictable course these latter diseases follow makes it impossible to say that a cure has been achieved especially as in many cases natural recession of the presenting complaint or alternating states with long quiescent periods are well known. Hence to be convinced of a cure, every case must be followed over atleast three years, 5 would be still better.
