Lowanna was born in Perth, Western Australia, Australia
on the 28th September 1972. She still lives in Perth though she
has travelled in her youth. Lou had a particularly challenging upbringing
and today these very aspects continue to teach her a lot about herself
and others.
From school Lowanna went straight into college and studied photography.
Then her best friend told her she was going to nanny in the UK and
did she want to come along. Lowanna packed up and in 6 weeks she
was on the plane for the UK where she lived in Buckinghamshire looking
after 6 children and spent her days caring and doing house chores!
A fantastic experience.
She stayed in Europe for 15 months, which also included back packing
all over Europe. Not a bad feat for an 18yr old!! It turned out
to be a life changing experience.
Lowanna would have to come home from Europe as her stepfather
was diagnosed with cancer. At 21 Lowanna decided that she wanted
to go to University, but dyslexia was holding her back from becoming
a Primary School teacher. She decided that this was her goal and
needed an English tutor. This is where Andrew entered, a High School
English teacher. He would support her through out the year to get
the grades to be accepted into university.
While she was at uni and for the following years she became good
friends with Andrew. This grew to them being partners - of now 10
years. Boy did that time fly!! After 4 long years Lou became a Primary
teacher. Initially for 4 years she enjoyed this immensely
and then became very disheartened with the contracted employment
system in Australia as it meant never spending more than a year
in a school and having no job and no guarantee of work every Christmas
for the following year. She decided the conditions were not healthy
for her.
She stumbled on homeopathy due to her sick dog needing attention.
She had just lost Lucy a cocker spaniel to an "unexplained
illness" where she looked like she developed myasthenia gravis
but the test showed nothing! Only weeks after this total devastation
of having to put down her best friend she found Thomas, Lucy’s son
had two lumps on his body. She was very angry with western medicine
and decided it had not seemed to help anyone long term. Six months
before Lucy's death the whole family had a life change converting
to a green, chemical-free organic house which also included the
3 dogs too! When the house converted to being "Green"
she had also thrown out all the medications in the house and said
to Andrew "Well now we have no medicine, what are we going
to use when we get sick?" She told him that something would
crop up that was healthier than allopathies and it did!
Lou started to research what this "home-opathy" (as she
used to call it) was. The more she read the more it made sense.
Of course we are part of nature and follow the laws of nature regardless.
Seemed to make sense to use a similar drug to treat the symptom.
During her research she hit upon a site called "hpathy"
There were not that many members then when she first posted
about her chronic problem with asthma. For many months she tried
remedies and with the help from Snoopy ( a homeopath) and other
resident members at hpathy she started her path back towards health.
She continued to do her own study into homeopathy becoming more
intrigued the more she read, and the more she read the less she
knew. She had a deep interest in human biology and medicine even
before she was 12 years old. She would get out medical books and
encyclopaedias out of the library when her friends would be reading
fiction !
She decided recently to consult a homeopath here in Perth and
she has not looked back since. If you are in Perth, she would gladly
recommend him just email her. After a year of self-study and many
months of looking for where she wanted to study homeopathy she enrolled
in Misha Norland’s correspondence course from Devon.
Lou would recommend this course to anyone serious about wanting
to be a homeopath. In 4 years she will be a homeopath with an Advance
Diploma. Though she states it is harder than her university degree
- it is very rewarding. This year she also became a Buddhist and
this spiritual enrichment has seen a positive impact upon her daily
life.
So that was her yesterday ! Today she spends her days working hard
to keep up with Misha's course not to mention hours grappling with
new homeopathy ideas. When mental fatigue sets in there is always housework
and relief teaching to keep her out of trouble. She enjoys reading
Buddhism and homeopathy books duh! She enjoys writing for the e-journal
when she can and being part of the Hpathy team is a great place
to hang-out and learn at the same time.
Lou likes to make time to meditate and practise Buddhism. She adores
the beach and gets down there most days in summer. Being outdoors
gardening and going to the gym keeps her grounded and her love for
creating art especially drawing relaxes her during the day. Lou
also prefers to spend time with her 3 English cocker spaniels and
enjoying the company of her best friend and partner Andrew.
