Just One Drop – New Film on Homeopathy

A new documentary about homeopathy was premièred in London on 6 April. It highlights the controversy over evidence for homeopathy’s effectiveness.   ‘Just One Drop’ is based on extensive research and tells the story of homeopathy through the voices of the international homeopathic community.  The film  features the first details of a complaint to the Australian Ombudsman providing evidence that the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) misled both the public and the scientific community in their 2015 report on homeopathy.   Visit the website to learn more and to arrange a showing of the film:  http://www.justonedropfilm.com/

Chronic conditions with sparse symptoms

Euphrasia – Considered in any inflammatory state of the eye which is characterized by congestion of the conjunctiva, or great photophobia conjoined with excessive lachrymation, the tears being acrid. Beside helping in these cases, it often removes chronic opacities, and it is said to have cured several cases of cataract. It is my belief that these chronic cases, which Euphrasia cured, once presented (viz., in their acute stage) the symptoms above described as indicating Euphrasia. And this statement of my belief induces me to call your attention to a mode of prescribing for certain chronic conditions which present no symptoms whatever to indicate a remedy. The method is to prescribe for the acute malady in which these chronic conditions originated. It can only be done when we can get a clear and trustworthy picture of the acute affection as it once really existed.

6 Tips from W.A. Dewey M.D.

Causticum has facial paralysis from exposure to dry cold weather. Cowperthwaite published a large number of cases of facial paralysis cured with Causticum 30, and its value in this affection seems established. It has also paralysis of single parts, face, tongue, pharynx, etc.  In paralysis from apoplexy remaining after the patient has recovered otherwise, inability to select the proper word is an important indication.

Hydrastis is one of the best remedies for aphthous stomatitis in the poorly nourished. The membrane is studded with ulcers and the tongue is coated

Calendula – Dr. Ludlam praises it in lacerations about the pelvic organs and in the perinaeum. No suppuration seems able to live in its presence, but to get its best effect it should be applied externally and given internally at the same time. For external use the aqueous solution is diluted one to four or six at least.

Ranunculus bulbosus given in the tincture has been found to be most calming in attacks of delirium tremens. It is undoubtedly one of our best remedies in the treatment of acute alcoholism.

In apoplexy (stroke) Arnica is the remedy where there is soreness and aching all over the body, paralysis, especially of left side, full strong pulse and stertorous breathing. Bed sores form rapidly.

Moschus – Fainting is the great keynote of Moschus. When hysterical attacks are found with fainting, other drugs may be indicated (Asafoetida, Cocculus, Ignatia or Nux moschata) but in most cases Moschus will be the similimum. The simulation of tetanic spasms, the unconsciousness or frequent swooning will point to Moschus.

Croton Tig. In Croton. tig. we have a valuable remedy for superficial inflammations of the eye, especially of the pustular variety.  Pustular eruptions found upon the lids either with or without any corneal or conjunctival complication, especially call for the use of this remedy and are quickly removed by it. Ophthalmic   Therapeutics,   Timothy F. Hydrastis in Gallstone Colic

  1. C. Burnett, the famous Homoeopathist, advised Hydrastis as the very best remedy for gallstone-colic he had found, having succeeded with it where every other remedy failed. He gave ten-drop doses of the strong tincture of Hydrastis in very warm water every half hour.

A Tale of Magnets and Homeopathy in Toothache

Dr. B.C. Von Boenninghausen

A remarkable quick- acting remedy for a kind of throbbing pain in the teeth is the north pole of the magnet. This throbbing is almost always accompanied by burning, and has its seat in the lower jaw, followed by a hot and red cheek; it becomes worse from warmth, and after meals. Generally there is a chilliness over the whole body; great irritability; trembling and quivering of the limbs. In spring and autumn this kind of toothache is very frequent. Its cure is soon accomplished, the patient touching with the forefinger the north pole of the magnet as long as the pain seems to be increased.

I cannot forbear mentioning an application of the magnet, which, however, was not followed by success, yet shows its strong effect. A servant of mine came into my study one evening and begged me to give him some relief for his toothache, which had pained him since four P. M., and was always increasing. The pain was throbbing, and was in the upper jaw. As all the symptoms, except the last one, indicated the north pole of the magnet, I applied it at once but he had scarcely touched it with his finger, when he grasped his cheek with his other hand, and cried out, “Oh! it springs downwards! The pain was merely removed from the upper jaw to the lower one, but continued with the same intensity. It is certain that this metastasis was produced by the north pole, and cure could not be expected from it. I then allowed him to touch the south pole, which, by experience, we know takes away the effect of the north pole. What I expected happened; he had only just touched the south pole, when he cried out, “Oh ! it springs again upwards!” So my purpose was answered; and shortly afterwards I gave him Pulsatilla, which cured him completely: that was no imagination.
