Dear Dr. Khalsa,

My nine year old Border Collie has developed dandruff. The flakes of dandruff are rather large. He’s an anxious sort and more chilly than warm.  Does this require a change in diet or remedies or?

Thank you

Lloyd

Dr. Deva Khalsa:   The best remedy is Arsenicum album 6x three times a day for one month.  That fits the picture with anxious, chilly and flaky dandruff.  It’s a great remedy and acts like a powerful tonic. If improvement is minimal or does not occur go up to 30x.

Greetings Dr. Khalsa,

My dog was just diagnosed with Ranula and they suggested fixing it surgically. Is there a kinder, gentler approach?

Many thanks

Theresa

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  With a ranula the duct has ruptured and there are no remedies I know of that can repair a duct that is not juxtapositioned and has ruptured. There are remedies that can drain the area but the ruptured duct will continue to drain saliva into the area. I would recommend doing the surgery, which is typically very successful.

Dear Dr. Deva Khalsa,

My Cat has been vomiting for quite a few months now. Initially it started, when she was constipated.  Later it became more often, to the point that she could vomit up to three times per day. She was either vomiting just after eating with undigested food, or sometime after eating with brown watery substance, or white frothy saliva, so it was different every time. She lost a lot of weight, became half of what she was. The conventional medication for motility didn’t bring much lasting improvement and had side effects.

She was then treated with Nux Vomica C30 and she didn’t have constipation any more, but the frequency of vomiting increased. Two weeks ago, I put her on a homeopathic med for pets (HomeocanHomeoVetDigestVet formula).

The formula works well for her, but I have to be very precise with giving it to her three times per day every 8 hours. When I went away twice for almost all day, and she got the formula only twice, very early morning and at night, the vomiting came back.

If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it very much.

Kind regards,

Eva Welska

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  There may be an allergic component in this and for this you can do an experiment and put her on rabbit food only. Rabbit has only one phenolic and does not cause allergic reactions as fish and beef and chicken do. See if she is better with this. You can also do a test at VDI laboratory… which tests for IBD and Lymphoma in the same blood test sent out by your veterinarian. Then we can get an idea of what is causing this problem.

Dear Dr Khalsa,

I have a little male Staffy (mixed breed) who barks at anything that moves and cannot be kept outside, as he bothers neighbors so much.  He also gets car sick and vomits.  He likes to sit up high, eg. on the garden table. Various products that are sprayed when barking did not help. Quite a fussy eater. Has snapped at strangers patting him. Have tried Cocculus and Kali Carb as believe he gets anxious.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Jean

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  Let’s start with something simple.  Easily irritated. Fussy eater. Give him Nux vomica 6x or 30x three times a day for a month and see if he settles down a bit. If the remedy works before a month, you can stop giving it until and if symptoms return .We may have to go up to 200c Nux vomica later.

Hello Dr. Khalsa,

I am an owner of a dairy unit with 15 HF cows and 12 heifers. A few of my cows are not conceiving and facing the problem of repeat breeding. Kindly advise me the proper treatment under homeopathy.

Thanks

Shivappa Nandennavar

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  Pulsatilla 200c three times a week for one month. Try this.

Hello Dr. Khalsa,

My vet, following a blood test, was concerned about pancreatitis so I took my toy poodle off of Stella and Chewy’s raw and now have her on Royal Canin Satiety. low fat food. She seems fine on it but it’s not cheap and her last blood test read well though I didn’t do the big pancreatitis test due to finances. She is lovely and will eat anything.  Is there anything Ican feed her that is perhaps less expensiveand safe?

Thank you,

Nancy

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  I am not sure how your vet diagnosed pancreatitis. An Ultrasound would diagnose this definitively.   There is a special test that IDEXX does that can diagnose it. A routine blood test that has an elevated Amylase does not diagnose pancreatitis. This one reading is one of the most inaccurate items on a routine blood test. It goes up with vomiting or diarrhea or no reason and all and does not mean pancreatitis. So does or did your dog even have pancreatitis is the question. A good remedy for pancreatitis is Iris versicolor 6x – just an FYI.

Dear Dr. Khalsa,

I wish to get your help for my dear Budgie bird Shona. He was down with viral crop infection in June. After vet advice I gave him ofloxin for 5 days and he got better. Active as usual. But after that he has started adjusting his crop a little too much… Vet treated him for goiter, (providing mineral blocks) and fungal infections but his crop adjusting continues. His voice has also become a little harsh and he isn’t as vocal as he used to be. One breeder says he might have a tumor around his neck.

Thank you

Chetna Lalwani

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  Hi Chetna. I would check for a tumor for sure and a local vet needs to do this
