Hello Dr. Khalsa

Hi, my cat has a tumor on his hind femur and the leg is becoming more lame. Since I don’t know if it hurts or if it is still growing, any suggestions on an holistic approach other than surgical excision? I read about neoplasene treatments. What do you think of the treatment with tumors?  I have not yet scheduled a biopsy but will starting neoplasene. Trying to figure out which to do first. I have an appointment with the holistic clinic next week.

Thank you

Anna Liu

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  A tumor in the bone is almost definitely painful. Cats do not do well with neoplasine orally and I am not sure how you plan on getting the salve to the area of the bone under the skin. I have found Silica high potency 1m or 10m a few times a day for weeks helpful in some cases for bone cancer.

Dear Dr. Khalsa

My male cat, Creamy (7 yrs old), seems like he has internal parasites as he is losing weight rapidly, but has a great appetite. We suspect parasites and kidney problem. Losing weight slowly was going on for the last few months, then it accelerated in recent weeks.  Also, he started peeing a lot and drinking a lot. He is very, very skinny, but happy to be with us. He is very fragile in general. Creamy weighs about 7 pounds. Last time we took him to the vet, he almost died of trauma. Taking him to the vet may cost him his life. He is extremely scared of the outside world. We rescued him and his mom from the foxes that killed his three siblings in front of him.

Thank you

Sincerely,

Bogdan

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  It sounds like he is suffering from hyperthyroidism as this usually causes cats to eat much more, drink more, urinate more and become much more active. If not diagnosed and treated it can severely damage the heart.  If he is not much more active it could be cancer or another problem. This kind of thing must have a veterinary exam and blood tests. It really does not sound like parasites at all.

Dear Dr. Khalsa,

How do you suggest treating a dog with a diagnosis of pannus in both eyes?

Thank you,

Dorothy

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  Pannus is an autoimmune problem. There is no good easy, reliable holistic treatment for it. Usually cyclosporine is the traditional treatment.

Hello Dr. Khalsa,

My dog is a 14 year old female Maltese. She has congestive heart failure / mitral valve disease and is on enalapril, COQ10, pimobendan, hydrocodone, furosemide, mirtazapine ). Recently her BUN levels have raised from (two months ago) 30 to (now) 90.  I wanted to know if it is safe to start her on this natural herb supplement Kidney Support Gold and make sure that there are no interactions with her other medicines/ health conditions.  The active ingredients are: Cordyceps mycelium (Cordyceps sinensis), Rehmannia root (Rehmannia glutinosa), Dong Quai root (Angelica sinesis), Astragalus root (Astragalus membranaceous)

Also are there any other medicines/supplements you recommend for her to help lower her BUN?

Thank you!
Manika

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  Hi Manika, This kind of thing requires a consult with me or an excellent holistic veterinarian. There is much that can be done but it must also be with the heart. Cactus grand 6x is a good remedy to use for the heart in this case, 2 or 3 times a day.

Dear Dr. Khalsa

I wonder if you have any ideas about treating sweet itch. Our donkey gets badly affected , now for the third year.  (Also known as Queensland Itch, Seasonal Recurrent Dermatitis (SSRD), Summer Itch or more technically, Culicoides Hypersensitivity.  Sweet Itch is a medical condition in equines caused by an allergic response to the bites of Culicoides midges. )

Thank you ,

Lou

Dr. Deva Khalsa:   I would do allergy elimination – a form of NAET with the donkey using the midges as the substance.

Greetings Dr. Khalsa,

My dog had many problems with dandruff type areas on his skin. The dandruff areas were in rings almost and he was itching badly with it. After a few days it would come up again in a different area. He was hot as well. We swabbed each area with dilute iodine and it would disappear but always come up somewhere else. The vet who thought it was a flea allergy as he found a couple of fleas on him. He sprayed him with a very strong flea control medication and the following day the areas of dry skin were all over him. That took about 3 months to get rid of and he has never had any flea control since.

We always comb him with a flea control comb and spray him with a dilute water solution with a few essential oils. He has never had any since. Areas of dandruff would be about ½ inch round, sometimes bigger. He also had this brown gunge in his left ear. I gave him Pulsatilla and some drops from a natural dog health supplier and cleaned with a cotton bud. The vet also though he might have a Staph infection which was why I gave him Staph Aureas in case it was.

He has now started scratching a lot and his ear has started with the same symptoms. Small areas of dandruff are appearing and he is licking the front of his paws.  Last year he had Staph 30 and he also had Staphylococcus 30 too in our bid to rid him of it. We are stumped now though as nothing has changed. We are in mid-spring here in England so I suppose it could be from a tree or plant locally.

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  It sounds like a yeast called Malazessia in his ears and Zymox medicated enzymatic ear medication is best to use religiously on the ears.  He could also have malazessia on his skin but usually that grows in the underarms and moist areas that do not see the sun.  It sounds more like possible ringworm. Bacillinum 30 or 200c once a day for two weeks works miracles with ringworm.

Dear Dr. Khalsa,

I have a 10 month old 11 pound dog who is about to receive her first rabies shot. I have read several differing homeopathic protocols ranging from 30c to 200c Lyssin, some recommending before as well as after the injection, others say for several days after. Some recommend dosing daily a week before. Some use other remedies (Thuja, Silica, etc.)  There is also controversy over whether to give less vaccine for a smaller dog.  I would be so happy to know your opinions and recommendation, knowing that generalizing is hard to do!

Very gratefully,

Lanie Kagan    [email protected]

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  First of all, maybe your veterinarian can give a quarter of a dose as an adult Great Dane would get the same dose.  I usually use Thuja 6x four times a day for a week after the vaccine, with a dose of Hypericum 6 and Belladona 6 a few times a day for two days after the vaccine.  Lastly, a month after the shot give Lachesis 30c once a day for a week.

Hi Dr. Khalsa,

I would like to do a general “wormer” for our cats (1 – 2 yrs. old)  We live in the country and they eat squirrels, rabbits etc.  Is there a remedy you could recommend for such a general situation.  They seem pretty healthy and good shiny coats, but don’t want to let them go down. They keep the snakes out of the yard, so important to keep them strong and balanced.

Thanks

Joan

Dr. Deva Khalsa:  Drontal is great as it kills tapeworms which can be transmitted by eating rodents and also general intestinal worms.
