Dear Dr. Khalsa,
My female cat is 11 years old and I saw her limping slightly recently. She had no injury that I’m aware of, so I assumed it might be arthritis. I gave her Arnica 30 in the morning and Rhus tox 30 at night for several days and she’s was walking fine. Now, a week later the limp is returning. I restarted her on the remedies. How long can I continue this, and do you have any other suggestions?

Dr. Deva Khalsa: It really depends on what is causing the limp. Oftentimes cats get into fights and they get a cellulitis – which is a generalized inflammation of the area. In this case, they can run a temperature, have a swollen extremity that feels hot and have an inflammation of the leg or area. Because she is 11, you’re assumption that she has arthritis may very well be correct. Oftentimes with arthritis the indicated remedy needs to be given long term, or at least for a month, and then see how you can reduce the dose over time. Then you may have to start it again if she gets bad. As Rhus tox has already proven helpful, I would keep it up at night for a month or two and then see how much you can lower the dose. Maybe twice or three times a week instead.

I would like to ask about my little dog who is 4 years old. He has been not very social since I got him. He is over protective, very anxious around strangers. He would bark a lot, pee and poop some places when I take him with me. He’s a Kennel Yorkshire Terrier. He is more chilly and likes warmth. He is not very thirsty except when he plays a lot. He is very protective over me. He is afraid of everything that is not familiar to him. Outside he barks suddenly at some people. When he is with some other family member, he is not that protective. I gave him Bach Rescue Remedy in his drinking water and I have tried Pulsatilla 1M, but neither seems to work. He feels very good when I am at home in peace and quiet.

Dr. Deva Khalsa: I would try Aconite 200c twice a day for 10 days, then once a day for 20 days. Now, if this does not work you can try Staphisagria 30x twice a day for two weeks.

My Golden Retriever, Maija, has to have her anal sacs expressed every two months. My veterinarian suggested removal of her anal sacs. I am opposed to this. I recently read your article about using homeopathic elements to help Maija treat her anal sac problem. Where can I buy Myristica30x and Silicead 6c? Is there a specific brand that you would recommend? I also used your Epsom salt soak suggestion. I used 2tsp. to a cup of warm water. This dilution seemed to irritate her. Was the solution I used to strong? Thank you.

Dr. Deva Khlasa: That is not a very strong solution of Epson salts and I would just use a clean cloth with plain water to clean the area off and then put some calendula ointment on it after the soak (ointment not crème.) You can get Myristica seb 30x at Washington Homeopathic or Boiron online easily. I have never had a case where the anal sacs needed to be removed with this protocol.

My cat is a 15 year old female. Since she was a kitten she had a tumor in her mouth. The tumor is on her left upper cheek and has been growing for about 6 months and it starting to affect her ability to eat. She is a good eater and consumes three meals a day, including a jar of puréed baby food meat and 2 pouches of cat food without grain. In view of my cat’s age, I do not want to use conventional treatment as I do not want her last days to be painful with surgery. Could you suggest a homeopathic treatment?

It would depend really on what kind of tumor it is. For instance, squamous cell carcinoma or malignant melanoma or fibrosarcoma are some examples. As different tumors respond to treatments differently, a needle aspirate to ascertain what kind of tumor is often very helpful. A tumor that has been visibly growing for 6 months does not afford a good prognosis for a homeopathic treatment. It has become very well established by then.
Dear Doctor Khalsa,
We have a 9 year old female Labrador. It weighs 42 Kg and is friendly and docile.
In Feb 2016 a mammectomy was done. A left inguinal gland small hard
swelling was noticed in Aug and our vet diagnosed it as Hematoma. 15 Oct they aspirated 40ml and on 5 Nov aspirated 80 ml. I gave Arnica 30X for one week but there is no improvement. The attached photo is as of 16 Nov. Can you help me?
What are the risks in case it hurts and if it bursts? Would it be helpful if I tie it with a bandage around the body so that the lump does not suspend?

That does not look like a hematoma to me. Have they done a fine needle aspirate or put a needle and syringe in to aspirate the mass to see if perhaps it is filled with fluid? A hematoma is a blood filled area. If this is what it is, it would be helpful to drain it or put a temporary drain in it so it can empty. I would, from my limited viewpoint, at least consider surgically removing it. She is only 9 years old and if it has not gone away in a month, the options for treatment are lessening.
