An Indian homeopathic stalwart passes away.

Dr. Mahendra Singh

We regret to announce that the esteemed Dr. Mahendra Singh, DMS, MBS passed away on Oct.15, 2012. He was a renowned author and Professor and Head of the Department of Organon & History of Medicine at The Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital for over 30 years.

He was deeply involved in the history of homeopathy, conducting seminars, and writing biographies of over fifty homoeopaths. He routinely conducted courses free of charge for homoeopaths in rural areas of West Bengal. He was fluent in Hindi, Bengali, English, German, Maithili, Bhojpuri, and Urdu.

His many functions in the past included : past president of HMAI , Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College Teachers Council, Secretary General of All India Homoeopathic Teachers’ Council, VP of Indian Drugs Research Foundation, Director of International Institute of History of Homoeopathy, ex chairman Committee for History of Indian Homoeopathy, Chief Editor : Homoeopathic Light. Dr. Singh’s many written works include: Biographies of : Boenninghausen, H.C. Allen, Lippe, Hering. Dudgeon, Burnett, Hartmann, Franz, Aegidi, Stapf, Honigberger, Mahendra Lal Sircar, P.C. Majumdar, J.N. Majumdar, S.C. Ghosh, B.K. Sarkar, B.K. Bose, Life and Works of Hahnemann, Homoeopathic Materia Medica.

What Dr. Singh contributed to homeopathy is incalculable. He will be missed by all.

  • It came as a shock to hear the sad demise of a great Homeopathic stalwart. He was a great speaker and teacher.
    It’s a irreparable loss for his family and the whole homeopathic community. May his soul rest in peace. May god give enough strength to Dr Subhash sir and his family to bear this loss.

  • As one keenly interested in the spread of alternative medicines particularly Homoeopathy I have been deeply shocked to learn the news of the sudden demise of Dr. Singh. Let his unfinished research works and jobs be continued and completed by his worthy disciples and followers. May his soul rest in peace.
