Psoriasis is a chronic, non-contagious autoimmune disease which affects the skin and joints. It commonly causes red scaly patches to appear on the skin. The lesions may be completely asymptomatic, but some patients may have severe itching. Psoriasis can begin at any age but usually starts either around the age of 20 or between 50 and 60.
