Itching around the anus may be caused by hemorrhoids, anal fissure, or persistent diarrhea, or by the too rough cleaning after defecation. Worms are the most common cause of anal itching in children.

Itching all over the body may be caused by diabetes mellitus, kidney failure, jaundice, thyroid disorders, Hodgkin’s disease, or blood disorders.

Infestations of lice and scabies cause severe itching, as can insects bites.
