Neck pain is a common medical condition in which there is pain in the neck region between bottom of head to top of shoulders which can extend to upper back, shoulders and arms or come from regions near to neck. Any disease condition that affect any structure with in neck include muscles, bones, nerves, glands, blood vessels, trachea etc can cause neck pain.

NECK PAIN

Causes of neck pain

  • Mechanical disorder – Spasmodic tortiCollis, Cervical spondylosis
  • Inflammatory – Ankylosing spondylitis, Polymyalgia rheumatica.
  • Malignancy – Myeloma, metastatic carcinoma.
  • Infection – Staphylococcal or other septic conditions, Tuberculosis.
  • Metabolic cause – Osteomalacia
  • Cervical spine stenosis
  • Whip lash injury
  • Stress

Symptoms associated with neck pain

  • Stiffness especially in the neck
  • Numbness, weakness and tingling in the arms.
  • Restricted movement of head and neck.
  • There may be fever along with vomiting in case of “MENINGITIS”.
  • Soreness and cramps in the region of neck.
  • If pain persist for a long time period can lead to anxiety, irritability, depression and insomnia.

Diagnosis

  • History of complaints – Include history of injury, location, duration, intensity and extension of pain.
  • Physical examination – Examination of movement, stiffness, joints, vertebral bones etc.
  • Neurological examination – Include reflexes strength, sensation etc, if any abnormality detected may be due to cervical spondylosis, herniated disc, cervical spine fracture.
  • Blood test – Complete blood count, ESR, Thyroid function test, Rheumatoid factor, blood culture.
  • X-ray cervical spine -To detect arthritis, cervical fracture
  • CT scan, MRI – To diagnose damaged vertebrae, spinal stenosis and nerve root compression.

Treatment of Neck Pain

Type of treatment will depend on whether neck pain is caused by activities, an injury, or any other medical condition, In case of neck pain rest should be advised first.

      While I appreciate that you are trying to be helpful, we do not allow posts which prescribe multiple remedies at the same time, nor repeating of remedies without feedback about results. Such prescriptions can lead to very bad provings and they are not in line with Hahnemann’s teaching.

  • Dear sir, some days ago I have suffered neck pain.my age 25 and male.
    My Xra Report,
    1.Cervical lordotic curvature is Lost with normal bony alignment.
    2.Minimal osteophytes are seen in lower cervical vertebrae.
    3Disc spaces are Maintained.
    4.No abnormal para
    5.no cervical rib is seen.
    I recovered it by treated a doctor but not fully recover. now my fingers is also pain when I closed.what is my problem? ur treatment can fill my cervical lost? please give ur suggestion and medicine.

  • Cervical and upper shoulder pains. I have felt that by sitting in office the pains get increase while on walking or in field work the pain subsides but problem is chronic. This is from the last 8/10 years I have pains. I have also low back pain from the last 27 Years. Many times I went into acute stages
    Pl help me
