Homeopathy for Throbbing Headache

A throbbing headache is a sensation of pulsating, pounding, rhythmic, or explosive pressure in the head which can be caused by various medical conditions.

Causes of throbbing headache

• Brain tumor – With increased intracranial pressure, headache often associated with vomiting.
• Injury or trauma – To the particular side of head can cause throbbing headache.
• Sinus infection – May cause one sided throbbing headache.
• Eye strain – throbbing headache can be caused due to weakness of vision or may associate with other medical conditions related to eyes.
• Meningitis – infection along with inflammation of the meninges in the tissue covering the brain and spinal cord can cause severe throbbing headache.
• Hypotension – common cause of throbbing head pain.
• Menopause – commonly found in women of menopausal age.

• Complications during pregnancy – headache may occur in some specific conditions during pregnancy like preeclampsia, eclampsia.

Belladonna – Palpitation reverberating in head with labored breathing; much throbbing and heat, vertigo, with falling to left side and backwards. Pain; fullness especially forehead, also occiput, and temples. Headache from suppressed catarrhal flow . pain worse from light, noise, jar, lying down, and in afternoon. Better by pressure and semi erect position.

Glonine – throbbing headaches; confusion with dizziness; effects of sunstroke; heat on head, as in type setters and workers under gas and electric light.

Heavy head, but cannot lay it on pillow. Cannot bear any heat about head; better from uncovering head. Angiospastic neuralgia of head and face. Very irritable; cerebral congestion; head feels enormously large, as if skull were too small for brain. Sun headaches; increases and decreases with sun. shocks in head, synchronous with pulse.

Sanguinaria – great remedy for throbbing headaches; worse right side; sun headache. Periodical sick headache, pain begins in occiput, spreads upwards, and settles over eye. Veins and temples are distended. Pain is better by lying down and sleep. Pain in back of head “like a flash of lightening.”

Lachesis – pain through head on awaking. Pain at root of nose. Pressure and burning on vertex, throbbing type of headache; waves of pain; worse after moving. Sun headaches. With headache flickering, dim vision, very pale face. Vertigo. Relieved by onset of a discharge.

Chininum Sulph – pain in forehead and temples; excellent medicine for throbbing headache; headache increasing gradually at noon, of malarial origin, with vertigo and pulsation; worse left side.

Chininum Ars – tired feeling; head feels too full. Throbbing, great anxiety. Great irritability; vertigo; worse looking up; dull, heavy headache, frontal and occiput. Darting pains running up in to head.

Lycopodium – shakes head without apparent cause; pressing headache on vertex; worse from 4-8 P.M, and from lying down or stooping, if not eating regularly. Throbbing headache after every paroxysms of coughing. Headaches over eyes in severe colds. Pain in temples as if they were screwed toward each other.

Sulphur – constant heat on top of head; heaviness and fullness; beating throbbing headache, worse stooping, and with vertigo.

Silicea – Silicea is a well marked medicine for throbbing headache; headache from fasting; profuse sweat on head. Pain begins at occiput, and spreads over head and settles over eyes.
