Twenty years of clinical and behavioral observation indicate that Cesarean births cause considerable trauma to babies. The physical and psychological effects are subtle and powerful, occurring at the unconscious level of the infant psyche. Negative impacts include excessive crying, feeding difficulties, sleeping difficulties, colic, and tactile defensiveness. There also may be long-term psychological effects such as rescue complexes, inferiority complexes, poor self-esteem, and other dysfunctional behaviors and feelings. (1)

Homeopathic approach to infant with sleep problems
Infant named H.H. a nine months old boy from Shiraz was visited on April 20, 2010. His mom’s main complaint was her boy’s restlessness and screaming during sleep. He would wake up frightened as if had dreamed a nightmare. He desired to sleep with his parents. H.H. had been born through Cesarean delivery. He also suffered gastro intestinal symptoms; alternate diarrhea and constipation.
The main rubrics were (Radar)
MIND – SHRIEKING – sleep, during
SLEEP – RESTLESS – night – midnight – after
SLEEP – RESTLESS
SLEEP – WAKING – fright, as from
RECTUM – DIARRHEA – alternating with – constipation
DREAMS – NIGHTMARES
MIND – PULLING – hair – desire to pull – someone’s hair
Prescription: Primarily Colocynthis 30 c and then Stramonium 30c were prescribed separately in liquid form.
Report of course of treatment: After prescribing Colocynthis, his diarrhea and constipation improved after several days, but his mental symptoms still bothered his family and him. Regarding the history of Cesarean delivery and patients’ mental state, and the main rubrics, Stramonium 30c was prescribed and repeated every other night after shaking 12 times. The frequency and severity of sleep problems subsided so that he would like to sleep by himself, according to the mom’s report on April 15, 2010.
The mom was told to continue the remedy until the symptoms vanished completely. Since she looked very anxious about her boy’s health and other symptoms called for Phosphorus 30c, the remedy was suggested and prescribed for her. She felt much better, one month after taking the remedy, as well. Family therapy through homeopathy is a very effective method of curing mental and emotional symptoms in most cases.
Conclusion: The results of this case report reveal multi- potential capabilities of the prescribed homeopathic remedies , i.e. Stramonium and Colocynthis. They not only improved the patient’s physical symptoms, but also his mental and emotional layers.
Case No. Two
Homeopathic cure of child with Asthma and hyperactivity
Introduction: Delivery by c-section is associated with a moderate risk increase for allergic rhinitis, asthma, hospitalization for asthma, and perhaps food allergy/food atopy, but not with inhalant atopy or atopic dermatitis. The increased use of C-section during the last decades is unlikely to have contributed much to the allergy epidemic observed during the same period. (2)
Methods: We (the researchers) used a systematic literature search of MEDLINE (1966 to May 2007).
Analysis of the patient: A tall, rather overweight boy named M.A.T., aged 7, was visited mainly because of asthma and behavior problems on April 30, 2010. He was born rather sooner than expected and experienced living in an incubator for an hour. His asthma began with a common cold and severe coughing episodes when he was only 3 years old. The child had been visited by Professor M. a pediatrician that had come to a diagnosis of asthma type two for him.
His father was obese and the grandfather suffered diabetes mellitus type 2 but experienced significant improvement through homeopathy by the authors.
The main rubrics were (Radar)
MIND – RESTLESSNESS
RESPIRATION – ASTHMATIC
EXTREMITIES – COLDNESS – Foot
MIND – DELUSIONS
GENERALS – COLD – take cold; tendency to
COUGH – VIOLENT
BLADDER – URINATION – involuntary – night
MIND – SYMPATHETIC
MIND – IMPRESSIONABLE
GENERALS – FOOD and DRINKS – ice cream – desire
MIND – AILMENTS FROM – fright
MIND – ANXIETY – alone; when
MIND – COMMUNICATIVE
MIND – COMPANY – desire for
Prescription: Phosphorus 30c in a single dose and Stramonium in repeated doses were prescribed separately. Stramonium was taken continuously after dynamizing the remedy, by shaking 12 times. (3)
Report of course of treatment: Two years after prescribing the two remedies, the patient was met in a relative’s house. He had improved significantly.
Conclusion: Phosphorus as a constitutional remedy had improved M.A.T. basically, but Stramonium was still prescribed to cure his sleep problems and his delusions, that we believe had been consequences of Cesarean delivery – as the researchers have shown during their research work.
Case No. Three
Homeopathic treatment of patient with behavioral disorder
Introduction: Nobody is perfect and all children will have bouts of bad behavior.
They may have temper tantrums, or talk back to their parents or teachers. When things start to get out of hand, however, it may be a clue that something in the child or teen’s life needs attention. Children and teens can seem irritable or even hostile when they are tired or aren’t feeling well.
There are two main types of disruptive behavior disorders – Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Conduct Disorder (CD).
A child who has a lot of temper tantrums, or is disobedient or argues with adults or peers on a regular basis, may have Oppositional Defiant
Disorder (ODD). More serious problems like frequent physical aggression, stealing or bullying may be a sign of Conduct Disorder (CD).
Children with Conduct Disorder often have trouble understanding how other people think. They may have trouble talking to others. (4)
Analysis of the patient: A sweet girl named S.S. about 5 years of age was brought to our clinic by her mom and dad on June 20, 2010 because of oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). During this first visit, the girl drew pictures of monsters. She suffered eczema that was suppressed by local ointment. After a time irritability and bad behavior emerged. She was then visited by a psychiatrist who prescribed Haloperidol, which according to her mom, had no therapeutic effect.
Main rubrics are as follows (Radar)
MIND – ANGER – easily
STOMACH – APPETITE – increased – night
MIND – FEAR – ghosts, of
MIND – SHRIEKING
SLEEP – LIGHT
SLEEP – POSITION – abdomen, on
MOUTH – SPEECH – stammering
MIND – FEAR – snakes, of
MIND – BATHING – aversion to bathe
EXTERNAL THROAT – CLOTHING agg.
MIND – DELUSIONS
SKIN – ERUPTIONS – eczema
Prescription: Stramonium 30c was prescribed for S.S. It was taken for three days after dynamizing the remedy, by shaking 12 times, until clear improvement of her mental symptoms. (3)
Report of course of treatment: Three days after prescribing the remedy the patient’s mom was called and asked about any changes. She said her daughter was better during the daytime, but not at night. We told her to repeat the remedy a bit longer after dynamizing it. The child experienced a mild aggravation afterwards, becoming aggressive, so we told her mother to use Diphenhydramine Hcl elixir and call us back. Since the symptom persisted, the mother was told to antidote the remedy by applying local Methyl salicylate in the axillary and groin region of S.S.(5) The symptom improved afterward. After 35 days the girl was visited again on July 25, 2010. Instead of drawing monsters as at the 1st visit, she drew flowers. Her fears had almost gone away and she desired company, instead of trying to be alone. Stammering had not improved yet. Aggressiveness was reduced. Since she was very loquacious and other symptoms called for Lachesis 30c, the remedy was prescribed. She felt much better two weeks after taking the remedy. In such cases we suggest the child’s mom or dad also use homeopathic remedies so their child experience a more successful cure.
Conclusion:The results show the link between suppression of skin eruptions and emergence of harsh behavior. Stramonium improved the emotional and mental symptoms of S.S. The girl’s delusions improved regarding her drawings at the 1st and 2nd visit.
Analysis of the three cases:
According to the studies published in peer reviewed journals, Cesarean delivery is associated with physical trauma, asthma and mental and emotional symptoms such as sleep and behavior problems as seen in the cases above. It is suggested that decision makers in government exert closer supervision over hospitals and clinics to promote normal delivery, rather than Cesarean section, to prevent the aforementioned trauma and to promote the mental and physical health of mothers and babies.
It is also hoped that homeopaths have closer cooperation with conventional practitioners to help babies with such physical and mental symptoms.
