Homeopathy in Acute Cases

Homeopathic medicine for addison's disease
Written by Santanu Maity

Dr. Santanu Maity presents some of his acute cases to show that homeopathy should be considered a first line of treatment.

In emergency cases homeopathy is as efficient as it is in chronic cases. Stroke is the most deadly among the emergency cases. Homeopathy has several medicines in its repertoire to deal with it, even from the beginning. Homeopathic medicines deal with this condition both pathologically and later on symptomatically. Aconitum nap, Cactus grandiflorous, Belladonna, Anacardium, Gelsemium and later on natrum mur, calcarea carb, sulphur, chamomila, bacillinum, glonoinun, Avena sat can be used. I in my 16 years of practice I had the opportunity to treat only six cases of stroke from the beginning as I diagnosed the case. I diagnosed 100 cases of stroke throughout my practice and none stayed except these six cases, and the 6th case was my mother.

The second day after opening my office there was not a single patient the whole day. It was about 8:30 at night when one  about 40 came to my office. He was talking, sneezing and wiping his nose. He asked “Doctor I have an unavoidable schedule tomorrow morning. I have to be there at 7A.M.  Can you correct my coryza boy tonight? If yes then I take your medicine. I had to say yes because he was the first patient in the last two days and also the first one of my practice life. I gave him Aconitum 30(5d). The next day he came back and said he was fine in the morning and there was problem attending to his work.

Homeopathy is not only meant for chronic diseases. It is equally good in acute diseases. It has the potential of treating acute diseases in a short time. I have found that people respond to homeopathic medicines in 10 to 15 minutes. In the cerebral cases I have found homeopathic medicines stabilize the patient condition within half an hour. I had a case of stroke where I advised his wife to shift him to hospital. Until they reached the hospital I gave them Aconitum nap and then Belladonna in lower potencies to take every ten minutes. When they reached the hospital his blood pressure was normal and his physical signs were good enough that the doctors decided not to put him in ICU. His CT scan revealed an infarction but his condition was stable enough to treat him in the general ward.  I recall a patient with severe diarrhoea, where there was watery stool with distension of the abdomen,  loss of appetite, rumbling in the abdomen. Six doses of China with two doses of Ricinus Communis as an intercurrent remedy and oral ORS controlled the case within eight hours.

One day a boy about 13years old arrived with his mother. The boy had running nose with severe sneezing, stoppage of nose, mild fever, profound thirst and anxiety. His mother said he had chronic coryza. He takes cold so easily that sometimes it is difficult to figure out from where he got the cold. In the family there was history of bronchitis. The boy had a history of skin disease in childhood which was suppressed by allopathic ointments. His mother wanted me to treat the boy so that he could be cured permanently. His treatment began with Aconitum in low potency. His acute condition was controlled within four hours. Later he was given Sulphur and after that Bacillinum completed the case for a permanent cure. In this case Sulphur was the antimiasmatic drug and it is complementary to Aconitum. Bacillinum is complementary to Sulphur. Here the therapeutic prescription was easily followed by a miasmatic prescription.

I luckily got the chance to treat dengue. I say luckily, because 99% of dengue cases go to allopaths. People believe that only allopathy has medicines against dengue. However homeopathy has several medicines against it.  I treated several cases of dengue in 2015 and 2016. Most cases of dengue can be controlled within 48 hours. Even severe cases have been controlled within 72 hours. A week to ten days is enough to cure it.  In the cases of dengue which I treated, the after effects of dengue were successfully minimized. Hair loss, weakness, loss of appetite, jaundice, etc. were almost totally controlled. I have used Baptisia, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Gelsemium sempeverance, Belladonna, Antimonium crudum, Chelidonium Majus,Hygrophila spinosa and Ferrum phosphoricum.

People need to consider homeopathy as a first line of treatment.  Pathological prescriptions, therapeutic prescriptions, constitutional prescriptions, and anti-miasmatic prescriptions are all part of a single thread. One after another they constitute the treatment from beginning to end (cure).

In case of viral fever where allopathy needs 4 to 5 days to eradicate the disease, homeopathy completes the job in two days. Not only that, but with less side effects and less weakness and fewer complications. If Gelsemium is given in 2 to 3 doses as an intercurrent the duration of the disease is cut short without causing any hazard to the patient. In case of watery diarrhoea with rice water stool, if Ricinus communis is given, one or two doses will decrease the severity of diarrhoea within 6 hours.

A woman aged 50 was suffering from diarrhoea. There were eight watery stools in three hours. She had severe griping pain in the abdomen. She vomited watery fluid five times. Veretrum Album was prescribed and after three hours the frequency of stools was reduced. When she complained of burning during stool, two doses of Iris versicolor as an intercurrent checked the diarrhoea completely within 6 hours. The vomiting stopped and she did not feel any weakness or loss of appetite.

There was a case of dengue where the platelet count fell to 40,000 and the patient had high fever, severe headache and body ache. Offensivness of stool and urine. Thirst was moderate, profound weakness, loss of appetite. she was given Baptisia along with Ferrum phos and Carica papaya. Her temperature was controlled within 24 hours and platelet count was 80000. Her weakness was reduced by 50%. After 4 days the platelet count was normal. Her headache and body ache were gone. Homeopathy can treat this condition at home where hospital management was needed. Professional care for twenty four hours is needed.

Still after two and half centuries homeopathy is considered as a second line of treatment and people dare to say that homeopathy is quakery and unscientific.
