Elaine gives the answer to the August Quiz.

Attention please! It’s time to revisit the August quiz, did you guess the right answer this time? Let’s see how well you did. Shana, roll tape!

Rewind … and, Action!
——————————–

Mom, don’t look now but…what are you doing?

I’m taking a picture of dinner, Shana.

Not again! Mom, no one does this but you.

Are you sure?

OK, let’s see it!

Here it is:

Spaghetti.

It’s not just any spaghetti, Shana.

I had a premonition you were going to say that!

The pasta is brown rice pasta, the beef is grass-fed beef. (Cows are not supposed to be eating grains, it’s not their real food!) I sprinkled grated raw milk cheddar cheese on top, and as you can see, there is a big helping of salad right next to it. Hello!

Sorry, Mom, there was a commercial on for Cheesy Poofs.

Shana!!!!! This is exactly the wrong kind of message to be sending our audience!

Sorry!!!!!! S’all right?

S’all right!

Who’s our patient for this month?

Me.

You? It must be a slow month! When did you get sick?

After YOU got sick!

When was that?

Don’t you remember when you went to The Ritz to see “Conan O’Brien All Blown Up”?

That’s “Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop”!

Who cares, Shana! The point is, it had disaster written all over it! Movie theaters are hotbeds of germs! Thousands of people crammed into one spot, no windows, freezing cold temperatures from the air conditioning…. Nothing good can come of it! So it was hardly a surprise when you started sneezing and coughing, and then a week later I started coughing!

OK, then let’s hear about it.

It was a dark and lonely night….

Just the case, Mom; do you realize I have to be at college in two weeks?

I’ll try to speed it up. Ahem! Where was I?

At the beginning!

Right! OK, so, as I may have mentioned, Shana had a cold, and a week later, I got a cold–thank you very much, Mrs. Monderissi Gandhi!

Sorry!!!! S’all right?

S’all right!

So what what was wrong with you?

Coughing! My chest felt tight. I had short, dry coughs that made my head hurt, I had to hold my head in my hands when I coughed.

What brought the cough on?

Good question, Shana! A tickling in the chest.

So what was the remedy?

They’re supposed to guess that!

Oops! Sorry! S’all right?

S’all right! I thought it must be Bryonia because the cough was making my head hurt, but I tried Bryonia and nothing happened! I thought the tightness in my chest must mean Phosphorus, but that didn’t work either! Finally, I had no choice but to repertorize.

If you know the remedy, write to my Mom (before I leave for college!) at LEWRA@aol.com . See you in September from my dorm room!

Bye-bye! Wait, Shana, come back! You’re too young to leave home!

Mom, I’m 19!

As in 1 and 9, which is 10, now go to your room.

Mom!!!!! Shouldn’t you be making the pizza?

Dear Elaine,

A very short but interesting quiz this time. I think the remedy was Nux Vomica.

Yes, you’re right, Rajiv, it was Nux vomica!

I have not repertorized carefully but going by the keynotes, and then using the repertory for differentiating, the case this time seems to be a characteristic Nux Vomica cough.

Cough and cold brought on by getting chilled;

Ahem! Not to rain on your parade, but, I didn’t get chilled, and we don’t even know for sure if Shana got chilled; I just simply caught Shana’s cold, so, no etiology to hang our hats on this time.

cough with hurting head which is aggravated by slightest motion.

Ahem! Did I say “cough, worse motion. or slightest motion aggravates”? I don’t think so…..Here’s the important rubric:

Head: hands, holds head with, while coughing.

Nux Vomica headaches are also very sensitive to least jarring.

Yooo-hooooooo!!!!! I didn’t have a headache! I said the cough made my head hurt, but I didn’t have a headache and, therefore, I didn’t have a headache that was worse from coughing.

Bryonia and Belladonna could be the other remedies for this. But Bryonia is ruled out because you had tried and it did not work. Belladonna is the other possibility. But in my Kent Repertory, Belladonna is not listed under Cough, tickling, chest.

So, I think it is Nux Vomica.

Somehow, Rajiv, with mostly all the wrong information, you lurched uncontrollably into the truth!  Shana, ring the bell for Rajiv!

Not the Liberty Bell!  Oh geez, now it’s cracked!

Mom! Can we please move along to our next winner? We have an answer from Jitka:

Dear Elaine , if Bryonia didn’t work when “you had to hold your head in your hands when you coughed” I think that next remedy that you tried was Nux Vomica.

Kind regards Jitka

PS

In case I’m wrong again, this is my last guess of your quizzes.:)

But I guessed Lycopodium in last issue, only I did not send a reply…:)

D’oh!  Well, no worries Jitka because you are correct, it was Nux vomica!

OK, it’s now time to list our winners, and here they are:

Jitka

Rajiv

Diderik Finne

Congratulations everybody! And thanks to all who voted! See you back here next time for another great and exciting Hpathy Quiz!
