The author describes the successful homeopathic treatment of an unexplained prostate bladder disease in a middle-aged man. This had manifested itself for more than five years and baffled about forty conventional and alternative physicians, because it occurred only sporadically with symptom-free periods lasting for months. The long-term anamnesis is described and evaluated in detail.

A man 66 years of age from Austria wrote to me in the winter of 2009/2010 requesting an appointment for a medical history at my office.
«As my only health problem I have a condition completely unexplained by all medical professionals, which is extremely unpleasant, when it occurs. Urinary retention – that is exactly my problem. The first time it emerged was about five years ago, after some very heavy, sweaty work at a permaculture site. As is so often the case with these projects, there were few workers and I had to do it myself. As I have seen in the last few years, total exhaustion with a lot of perspiration loss always has a bad effect on me, and it makes urination extremely difficult, especially at night. Either there is an enormous consumption of vitamins, minerals, etc. or the immune system is totally shut down.
At the moment the condition is bad again, although the months before were without problems. Whenever it becomes winter (December to January), the problem occurs. But it was already there in summer. The conventional and alternative doctors involved have already diagnosed all kinds of things, then rejected them again; there is no clear finding. My urologist speaks of a “great mystery”, because he cannot explain the “normal states in between”, which often last for three quarters of a year. There I always have a strong, thick urinary stream, which is now thin and powerless. In the past, stress and enormous professional overload were certainly also contributing factors, as I have always been able to observe. I have now got rid of that, so stress can hardly be it.
After the first occurrence five years ago, I visited three urologists in succession, all of whom diagnosed prostate enlargement (which, however, is only mild and cannot be the cause, since I always had a full, strong urinary stream in between) and advised me to have surgery. My family doctor, a primary physician at a large clinic, who has been familiar with my organs via ultrasound for many years, said that he could not detect any particular enlargement and advised me against an operation, as this would be useless. He was right, as it turned out. Over the course of the next few weeks, the condition returned to normal, until a year ago, after heavy work, I experienced similar complaints. This condition also disappeared of its own accord. Things became dramatic last December, again after full physical effort, when there was massive discomfort when urinating, which did not want to improve. Until a year ago, these conditions were always associated with a spasmodic feeling in the bladder, as if a fist was clutching the urine outlet. However, the doctors treating me (internist, urologist, neurologist, orthopedist) did not even take note of these descriptions.
In the following six weeks of suffering, I had a permanent catheter for five days after a visit to the emergency room of the clinic due to the complaints. After that, I was in a private clinic for a week (cortisone infusions) for a nerve conduction velocity measurement with a neurologist and with a renowned orthopedist, because in the course of the complaints, strong low back pain always occurred and therefore a herniated disc was suspected as the cause. This also turned out not to be the cause. When I left the private clinic (with a full bladder), I was really at the end of my rope and apparently so was conventional medicine. The only solution was a permanent catheter, which I refused. I went to the private clinic once again to talk to the attending physician about the spasmodic conditions, whereupon he recommended Buscopan Compositum. After taking the first capsule, the symptoms subsided within 30 minutes and I was able to urinate relatively unhindered for the first time in weeks.
After about 12 to 14 hours, the effect wore off and I had to resort to medication again, which would not have been a solution in the long run either. By chance, my friend Julius visited me and advised me to take magnesium and brought me a mixture of magnesium carbonate dissolved in Laurentana® mineral water that he had prepared himself. He also recommended the Schuessler’s Tissue Remedies and Biochemic Salts number 1, 7, and 11. After the Buscopan had worn off and the symptoms had subsided, I drank a glass of this solution and about 40 minutes later I was able to empty my bladder completely for the first time in a long time. For more than six months, this worked without any problems, and I was able to compensate for the occasional minor disturbances with targeted nutrition and drinking. Today, this no longer helps me; larger intakes of magnesium end with diarrhea.
One more detail: At that time I had a significant vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency, and it was now suspected that this was responsible for my condition. I was then given Folsan® tablets and three monthly injections of vitamin B12.
Now my self-diagnosis, which I was able to determine after intensive observation of the processes in the body now (since no more clasping can be felt that impedes urination), is as follows: The cause of obstructive urination is a weakness of the body from the hip downwards; there is a feeling of powerlessness, as if the area were poorly supplied with blood (This is also noticeable in the genitals). If I am fine when I urinate, the blood flow in the abdomen is much better.
A healer in our area once said that all the energy was in my head and from the middle down I was cut off. His assistance had helped me a few times, but not anymore. The nights are also bad all the time. While I can always build myself up during the day, in the morning I wake up battered and exhausted, as if all energy was drained from me at night. I eat prudently; acidic food has a negative influence, as do late meals or even cold from below.
After an intensive blood test (Epstein-Barr virus was supposedly diagnosed), a holistic doctor prescribed me a Labo’ life® remedy (Microimmunotherapy drugs from Labo’Life). As a result, from the third day on, there was a tremendous secretion of mucus from my nose and throat, which was so strong that after about 14 days I almost choked on it, because the mucus in my throat was so thick that it was impossible to cough it up. I thought it would have been good to get rid of all that, but had to stop the cure as the “mucolytic globules” proved ineffective. Since I am currently retaining a lot of residual urine again, I would like to come to you soon.»
So much for the written report. Nothing else was wrong with the man. This thing always comes in winter when it is cold. Then he always suffers from nocturia, three to five times a night, but the urine flows only “very hesitantly”. It all started five years ago in Russia “after sweaty work”. Since then it has repeated about 10 times. In addition, there is also a so-called imperative urge to urinate at times, but two to three years before said five years.
About two years before the Russia stay, there was also Lyme disease, which was treated antibiotically. And also, an “Epstein-Barr virus” was diagnosed at the time, “when I suffered very often from sore throats and angina”, always suppressed with antibiotics. “These recurred at a rate of two to three years – for the last 20 years!”
There was another antibiotic control two years ago “because of the catheter of the urinary bladder”. And the last vaccinations were made about seven years ago (TBE).
“I never have pain; I just feel the pressure and can’t go to the toilet”, the troubled man said.

So much for the subacute medical history. We first wanted to get this recurring symptomatology under control, in order to then continue with a chronic, anti-miasmatic therapy and to schedule a life history for this, because here we were dealing with the acute exacerbations of a chronic background event.
Thus, the man was first given (due to the many suppressions) Sulfur LM6 (Q6), 5 drops in a spoonful of water, twice a day; succuss the vial vigorously 10 times beforehand.
After just under a week, there had still been no improvement. Just one addition to our previous medical history, the man added: “I always have stool problems with this thing. Then I can only go to the toilet every two to three days. Otherwise, I have a bowel movement every day.”
Prescription according to the repertorization: Causticum LM6 (Q6), 5 drops in a spoonful of water, three times a day; beforehand, tap the vial vigorously 10 times against the palm of the hand.
Then the written report after a few days of Causticum: “After taking the remedy Causticum my condition has improved almost overnight, about 70 to 80% improvement I can see that ‘starting’ urination goes well, still a little hesitant, the emptying is not complete, but no comparison to the weeks before. I simply say: ‘Thank you!’ About forty medical professionals (conventional and alternative) were baffled and completely overwhelmed.”
Causticum was to be taken further; with progressive improvement less and less, i.e. with time twice daily, then once daily and finally once every two days.
This was followed by chronic anti-miasmatic treatment over a period of just over two years, based on a detailed life history, so that there were no more relapses.
