General Action

Tartar emetic produces increased secretions from mucous membranes in general, especially of respiratory and gastro- intestinal tracts. It causes nausea and vomiting free alvine discharges, but it is a dangerous drug, chiefly on account of the alarming reduction of temperature and of the force and frequently of the heart’s action. It favors the elimination of waste products. When applied to the skin it causes pustulation.
