CORYZA.

DRY, CORYZA-

Nose very dry, with a feeling of pressure in the nasal bones: pressive pain extends to temples and head.

Nose, dry, stopped, as by hard substance, with sensation of burning and swelling in the mucous.

FLUENT CORYZA-

Watery secretion, great soreness and tenderness of the nose.

Fluent coryza, excoriating nose and lip.

Fetid smell from the nose.

Nose stopped, in upper part, by difficult, thick mucus, which passes more readily by posterior nares.

Throat full of tough mucus, which can be neither swallowed nor hawked up.

Nose “stuffed up”: constantly filled with thick mucus.

Feeling must clear nose; but nothing comes.

DISCHARGES-

Watery; great soreness and tenderness of nose: nose and lip excoriated.

Clear, in masses: violent pain in occiput if discharge ceases.

Thick, yellow, ropy, acrid, from posterior nares.

Tough, green masses, ropy, thick: nose stopped: offensive or not.

WORSE-

Evenings: at night.

In open air.

SENSATIONS-

Nose dry and stopped: pressure at root extending to forehead, temples and head.

Loss of smell and taste in chronic coryza.

Burning, swelling, pressure in nostrils.

Soreness and tenderness of nose, watery discharge.

COUGH.

DRY COUGH-

Short, dry, tickling, continued cough, with stitching pains from mid-sternum through to back.

Weight and soreness in chest.

From tickling in larynx and bronchi.

Loud, harsh, single coughs at long intervals, and mostly in the morning.

With soreness at one small spot deep in the chest, as from an ulcer.

Dry cough, with stitches in chest and small of back.

In the morning on awakening; better from lying down.

LOOSE COUGH-

Loose, difficult cough; sputa white, tough as pitch, stringing into long threads.

Hawking, from accumulation of copious, thick mucus in larynx.

Hoarse, metallic cough; fibrinous casts, of tough, lumpy mucus.

Constant, hacking cough, sometimes with sputa of blood.

Resonant, whistling cough; whistling in chest, and loud rales; sputa, very thick mucus.

Violent cough with retching, from difficult, viscid, sticky sputa: patient much exhausted.

Violent, tight cough, worse by day; much worse, breathing smoke.

SPUTA-

None, cough dry: or, Much tenacious mucus, sometimes thick and gelatinous, hawked in the morning.

Very difficult, gluey, stringy or lumpy: mostly white, or grayish; sometimes, yellowish or greenish: always tough, fibrinouS: dense, transparent, lumpy.

“Tough as pitch,” stringy.

Thick, slate-colored, lumpy: blackish.

Copious, thick, bluish-white.

Very tenacious, sticky, gluey; may be drawn out into long strings.

Thick, lumpy mouthfuls; easily raised.

Fibrinous casts, and dense lumps.

Of blood, with racking cough.

WORSE-

From anything tight about the throat or chest.

Pains in chest worse from motion, better from pressure.

After eating and drinking, cough worse.

From deep breathing; in damp weather.

Morning on waking.

Evening undressing: in cold air.

When lying down, choking feeling.

2 to 3 A.M., croupy cough worse.

BETTER-

Sitting up and bending forward.

In dry, warm air.

After getting warm in bed.

From lying down, dyspnea and cough better.

LARYNX AND THROAT-

Throat, rough, dry; great hoarseness, or aphonia (acute).

Rough, hoarse, nasal voice.

Chronic hoarseness; much mucus in larynx.

Sub-acute or chronic laryngitis and bronchitis.

CHEST AND RESPIRATION-

Tightness of chest; no fever.

Dyspnea, with retching cough.

Itching behind sternum, causing violent cough.

Tightness of chest; cold feeling about the heart: tendency to chilliness.

Weight and soreness in chest: soreness at one small spot in the chest, as from an ulcer.

Stitches in chest.

PULSE-

Accelerated, weak and soft: rapid, hard, small, sharp.

SENSATIONS-

Tickling in larynx and bronchi from accumulation of tough mucus.

Pain in larynx, as from an ulcer.

Severe stitching from mid-sternum through to back.

Weight and soreness in chest; tightness of the chest.

Shootings in chest and loins, with dry cough.

Dyspnea and vertigo.

Soreness one small spot in chest.

Itching behind the sternum.
