CORYZA.

DRY CORYZA–

Dry coryza, with frequent sneezing and scanty thick mucus blown out in little lumps.

Thick phlegm in posterior nares; worse in morning.

Violent coryza, with cough, expectoration, and rapidly failing strength; worse 2 to 6 A.M. and at night after lying down.

FLUENT CORYZA–

Fluent coryza and hoarseness; speech muffled.

Pharyngeal pain shooting into ears (Gelsemium, Hepar, Acid nitricum) on swallowing.

New colds every day, causing secretion of abundant, glairy mucus.

Chronic purulent mucus and scabs; nostrils cracked, ulcerated, pustules.

DISCHARGES—

Scanty, thick mucus, blown out in little lumps.

Thick phlegm in posterior nares.

Abundant, glairy mucus.

Chronic purulent mucus and scabs.

WORSE–

In morning; thick phlegm in posterior nares.

2 to 6 a.m.; coryza and cough.

At night after lying down; cough and expectoration.

On swallowing; pain shooting into ears.

COUGH.

DRY COUGH–

Dry teasing cough, coming on when lying down at night: especially in children.

Dry, deep cough, at night, from scratching in throat (pharynx), with stitches under sternum.

Long coughing spells (chronic).

Dry or scanty cough, with great hoarseness; especially at night.

Deep chest cough, but the tickling is in the pharynx.

SPUTA–

None; or, very scanty (in phthisis sputa is scanty, frothy, yellow, with much rattling).

Purulent mucus in fauces.

CHEST–

Rawness and soreness of chest.

Violent rattling in front and back of chest.

Oppression of chest; worse from cold air.

WORSE–

2 to 6 a.m.

Lying down at night; cough worse.

From cold air, oppression of chest worse.

On swallowing, pains in throat worse.

THROAT–

Fauces filled with purulent mucus.

Feeling of great dryness in throat, with accumulation of mucus.

Stitching, burning pains in throat; worse swallowing, when stitches shoot into ears; burning in nape.

Throat feels much worse than it looks; very painful swallowing.

Scratching in throat provokes deep cough.

SENSATIONS–

Chilly and hot, by turns.

Oppression of chest at night; cold air increases it.

Fainting and palpitation.

Cold feeling about the heart. Pulse low; temperature high.

SPECIAL

Sub-acute and chronic bronchitis.

Low pulse, temperature high, in chronic cases; much exhaustion.

Bronchial phthisis; long coughing spells; great and rapid failing of strength.

Aged persons.
