Mind

      Head feels very heavy, loses consciousness and falls.

Every few minutes would lose himself and then, again wake up as it were to those around Inability to recall any thought or event, on account of different thoughts crowding on his brain.

Very absent-minded.

Exaggeration of duration of time and extent of space; a few second seem ages; a few rods an immense distance.

Great exaltation of mind; at times with enthusiastic language.

Sudden transition from one fantasia, when completed, to another; the general character may remain unchanged; after vision of great sublimity, usually follow visions of a quiet relaxing and recreating nature.

Delirium tremens, trembling, hallucinations; tendency to become furious; nausea; unquenchable thirst.

Hallucinations and fancies innumerable.

Clairvoyance.

Full of fun and mischief and laughs immoderately.

Anguish accompanied by great oppression; better in open air.

Sensorium

      Vertigo, on rising, with stunning pain in pain in back part of of head. Fixed gaze.

Heavy pressure on the brain, forcing him to stoop.

Dulness of head.

Inner Head

      Dull, drawing pain in forehead, especially over eyes.

Throbbing, aching pain in the forehead.

Jerking in right side of forehead, towards the interior and back part of head.

Aching in both temples, most severe in the right.

Dull stitching in the right temple.

Dull, heavy, throbbing pain through the head, with sensation like a heavy blow on back of head and neck.

Violent shocks through the brain.

Outer Head

      Scalp and skin of forehead felt as though tightly stretched over the skull.

Crawling in the scalp; on top of the head.

Soreness of the scalp to touch.

Eyes

      Visual clairvoyance.

Sensitiveness of right eye to light.

Letters run together reading.

Twinkling, trembling and glimmering, before the eyes.

Injection of vessels of conjunctiva of both eyes.

Jerking at the outer angle of the eye and eyelid.

Ears

      Hearing very acute.

Noise in the ears, as of water boiling.

Periodical singing in the ears during his dreamy spells, ceasing when he came to himself.

Ringing and buzzing in the ears.

Throbbing and fulness in both ears.

Aching in both ears.

Face

      Wearied, exhausted appearance.

Drowsy and stupid look; also with cold face.

Pale face.

Tense feeling in the facial muscles.

Skin of face, especially of forehead and chin, feels as if drawn tight.

Lower Face

      Dryness of the mouth and lips.

Lips feel as if glued together.

Teeth

      Gritting and grinding of the teeth while sleeping.

      Every article of food is extremely palatable.

Stammering and stuttering.

Mouth

      Dryness of the mouth without thirst.

Throat

      The throat is parched, accompanied by intense thirst for cold water.

Desires Aversions

      Ravenous hunger.

Desire for and dread of water.

Eating and Drinking

      While eating his stomach felt swollen and his chest oppressed, as if he would suffocate; was forced to loosen his clothes.

Stomach

      Pain in the cardiac orifice, relieved by pressure.

Abdomen

      Flatulent rumbling in the bowels, at night.

Abdomen feels swollen; relieved by belching.

Stool.

Sensation in the anus, as if he were sitting on a ball; as if the anus and a part of the urethra were filled up by a hard, round body.

Painless yellow diarrhoea.

Urine

      Pain in kidneys when laughing Sharp stitches in both kidneys.

Aching in the kidneys, keeping him awake at night.

Burning in the kidneys.

Urine: loaded with slimy mucus, after exposure to damp cold; pain in bladder and urethra; profuse, colorless.

Urinates frequently, but in small quantity.

Frequent micturition, with burning pain in the evening.

Has to wait sometime before the urine flows.

Has of force out the last drops with the hands.

The urine dribbles out after the stream ceases.

Urging to urinate, but cannot pass a drop.

Burning and scalding, or stinging pain in the urethra, before, during and after urination.

Male Sexual Organs

      Sexual desire excessively increased.

Erections: while riding, walking, and also while sitting still; not caused by amorous thoughts; violent; painful.

Penis relaxed nd shrunken.

Uneasiness, with burning sensation in the penis and urethra, accompanied by frequent calls to urinate.

Itching of the glans penis.

Female Sexual Organs

      Sexual desire increased.

Very profuse menstruation.

Violent uterine colic; nervous agitation, or cold hands and feet.

Larynx

      Inability to measure the compass and volume of the voice when speaking.

Breathing

      It requires great effort to take a deep inspiration.

Oppression of chest, with deep, labored breathing, worse when ascending.

Feels as if suffocated; has to be fanned.

Cough

      Rough cough with scraping under the sternum.

Hard, dry cough.

Lungs

      Stitches extending from both nipples through the chest.

Heart Pulse

      Palpitation of heart awaking from sleep.

Pressing pain in the heart with dyspnoea the whole night.

Piercing pain in the heart.

Sensation as if drops were falling from the heart.

Stitches in the heart, accompanied by great oppression; the latter relieved by deep breathing.

Pulse slow (as low as ); rapid (as high as 0).

Neck Back

      Pain across the shoulders and spine, must stoop, cannot walk erect.

Upper Limbs

      Agreeable thrilling through the arms and hands.

Lower Limbs

      Agreeable thrilling, from the knees down.

Is unable to walk up stairs on account of almost entire paralysis of limbs with stiffness and tired aching in knees.

On attempting to walk he experienced intensely violent pins, as if he trod on a number of spikes, which penetrated the soles and ran upwards through the limbs to the hips; worse in right limb and accompanied by drawing calves.

Shooting pains in joints of toes of left foot worse in great toe.

Aching and stitching pain in the ball of the left great toe.

Limbs in General

      Paralysis of lower limbs and right arm.

      Rest gives general relief.

Great desire to lie down in the daytime.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
