Mind

      Dull and stupid, mental torpor, Feels as if he was in a strange place, causes fear.

Sensorium

      Vertigo : on rising from bed, as if everything moved form side to side, or approached and then receded; reeling; falling on stooping.

Bad effects from concussion of the brain, when spasms set in.

Inner Head

      Pressure deep in the brain; heaviness in front or back of head.

Rending, cutting pain of one side; thinking of headache causes it to disappear.

Headache in the morning on waking; as if the brain were loose and was shaken on walking; when thinking as to its exact nature, it ceased.

Outer Head

      Sinking of the head forward looking at anything, or sitting, in apparent sleep; when aroused head was bent forward and stiff.

Jerking and twitching of the head.

Starting, trembling of the head, worse moving the head; with this, single jerks, like electric shocks, worse in the cold; better at rest and from warmth.

Eyes

      Eyes sensitive to light.

Letters go up and down or disappear; or colors of rainbow around them; objects appear double and black.

Staring at an object, the head inclined forward.

Pupils : dilated in concussion of the brain; contracted in spasmodic affections.

Blue margin around the eyes; eyes sunken.

Ears

      Oversensitiveness of hearing.

Hardness of hearing, in old people.

Ears very hot, at other times very cold.

Burning, suppurating eruption on and around the ears.

Nose

      Nose very sensitive to touch, slight touch causes it to bleed.

Yellow discharge from the nose; yellow scurfs in the nose.

Frequent sneezing, without coryza.

Face

      Face : deathly pale and cold, red; bluish, puffed up.

Distortions of the face, either horrible or ridiculous.

Convulsion of the facial muscles.

Dark-red pimples on face and hands, come with burning pain, coalesce.

Burning, suppurating, confluent eruptions of the face.

Herpes on the face.

Lower Face

      Lockjaw, teeth press firmly against one another.

Yellow scurfs on the left corner of the mouth, discharging yellow corrosive fluid, many extend over the lip, chin and cheek.

Cancer or upper lip.

Teeth

      Grinding of the teeth.

Tongue etc.

      Swelling of the tongue; white, painful, burning ulcers on edges of the tongue; painful to touch.

Speech difficult; when talking he feels a jerk in the head from before backwards, as if he had to swallow the word, as in hiccough.

Mouth

      Foam in and about the mouth.

Throat

      Inability to swallow.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Violent hiccough and crying.

Vomiting : of bile; of blood; on stooping, during pregnancy; alternating with tonic spasms, in the pectoral muscles, and distortion of the eyes.

Stomach

      Sudden shock deep in the pit of stomach causes opisthotonos.

Burning pressure at the stomach and abdomen.

Swelling and throbbing in the pit of the stomach.

Heat in the stomach.

Abdomen

      Colic, with convulsion, also vomiting.

Distention and painfulness of the abdomen.

Chronic painful hernia.

Stool etc.

      Frequent liquid stools.

Cholera, when purging ceases, and congestion to brain and chest, turning the eyes, difficult breathing, and other symptoms set in.

Itching in the rectum, with burning pain after rubbing.

      Either great quantities of urine, with great urging, or no urine at all.

Involuntary emission of urine, with old men.

Paralysis of the bladder, with great anxiety about it.

Male Sexual Organs

      Testicles drawn up toward the external abdominal ring.

Sore, drawing pain in the urethra as far as the glans, obliging one to urinate.

Stitches in the fossa navicularis, with nightly emission.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses delayed.

Spasmodic state, if menses do not appear.

Tearing and drawing in the os coccygis, during menses.

Pregnancy

      Eclampsia during childbed.

Breathing

      Oppression, can scarcely breathe; this may arise from tonic spasm of the pectoral muscles.

Cough

      Cough, with expectoration.

Lungs

      Great heat in the chest.

Cold sensation in the chest.

Heart Pulse

      Trembling palpitation of the heart.

Feels as if the heart stopped beating; and sometimes faint feeling therewith.

Outer Chest

      Sensation of soreness at the lower end of the sternum.

Neck Back

      Pain in the nape, spasmodic drawing of the head backward, with tremor of the hand.

Tension in the muscles of the neck.

Tonic spasm of the cervical muscles.

Tearing, jerking in the os coccygis.

Upper Limbs

      Complete powerlessness of the limbs, after spasmodic jerks.

Numbness of the fingers.

Veins of the hands enlarged.

Frequent involuntary jerking and twitching in the arms and fingers.

Lower Limbs

      Painful feeling of stiffness in the muscles of the lower limbs.

Trembling of the left leg.

His legs refused to carry him, and he staggered.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Chill and chilliness, with desire for warmth and the warm stove.

Chill starts in the chest and runs down legs and into arms, with staring look, Heat slight, and only internal.

Typhoid fever, with vertigo, noises in the ears, deafness; eyes dull, glassy; face pale; violent thirst; meteorism; sopor and silent delirium.

Sweat at night, and in morning hours, most on abdomen.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
