Mind

      Ecstasy, full of ideas; quick to act, no sleep on this account.

Delirium tremens: Unsteady, running about; imagines he is not at home, with trembling of hands; small, frequent pulse.

Excessive weeping and lamentations over trifles.

child cries and laughs easily; while crying, it suddenly laughs quite heartily, and finally cries again.

Cries and trembles, does not know what to do.

Cheerfulness.

Fear of death.

Pain seems insupportable, driving to despair.

Bad effects from sudden pleasurable surprise.

Sensorium,

      All the senses more acute, reads fine print easier; hearing, smell, taste and touch acute, particularly also an increased perception of slight passive motions.

Threatening of apoplexy; overexcited, talkative, full of fear, pangs of conscience, aversion to open air, sleepless, convulsive grinding of teeth.

Inner Head

      Congestion of blood to the head, especially after pleasant surprise, from talking.

Headache from thinking.

One-sided headache, as from a nail driven into the head, worse in the open air.

Headache, as if the brain were torn or dashed to pieces.

Feels and hears a cracking, in vertex, when sitting quietly.

Eyes

      Reddish; increased visual power.

Pupils dilated.

Ears

      Hearing more acute, music has a shrill sound.

Aversion to noise; it hurts him Crackling noise in the head (one side), synchronous with the pulse; particularly morning and in the open air; better in-doors.

Nose

      Acute, sensitive smell.

Nosebleed; with heaviness of head and ill humor; during straining at stool.

Face

      Dry heat of the face, with red cheeks.

Neuralgia of right side of face and head and right eyeball at 1 P.M.

Sweat on the face, with internal chilliness.

Teeth

      Toothache: stinging, jerking, intermittent aching; with restlessness, anguish and weeping mood, especially at night and after a meal; aggravated, from hot or warm drink, from chewing, at night; ameliorated when holding ice-cold water in mouth.

Tongue etc.

      Taste: more acute; sweetish.

Throat

      Steady pain from side of palate into oesophagus; constant desire to swallow, from sensation as of plug in throat.

Uvula too long, swollen.

Sore throat, worse from cool air.

Desires Aversions

      Increased hunger, with hurried eating.

Thirst at night wakens him: thirst during the sweat.

Aversion to coffee.

Eating and Drinking

      Eats and drinks hastily.

Bad effects from wine or liquor drinking.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Hiccough, eructations.

Constant inclination to vomit, felt in the throat.

Abdomen

      Colic: as if the stomach had been over-loaded; as if the abdomen would burst; cannot bear the clothes to be tight on the abdomen; exceedingly painful, driving to desperation.

Continuous pinching pain in the iliac regions.

Pressure in the abdomen, as from incarcerated flatulence.

Stool.

Diarrhoea: watery, painless, all day, from too much care about domestic affairs; during dentition.

Fetid flatus.

Urine

      Frequent and copious.

Male Sexual Organs

      Sexual organs much excited without emission of semen, and with dry heat of the body.

Scrotum relaxed.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses: Too profuse and of long duration; profuse, with coldness and stiffness of body; only during the evening.

Metrorrhagia: large, black lumps, worse from every motion, with violent pain in the groins and fear of death.

Leucorrhoea: like mucus, or milky; more while urinating.

Voluptuous itching in the vulva, but parts too sensitive to rub or scratch.

Pregnancy

      Excessively severe pains from threatened abortion, or labor.

Labor-pains ceasing, with complaining loquacity.

During the labor or after pains, extreme fear of death.

Puerperal fever from mental excitement, frequent crawling, with feverish warmth, tongue moist, no thirst; delirious talking eyes on open, shining; violent abdominal pains, with oversensitiveness, despair, sleeplessness.

Larynx

      Spasmus glottis, stars from sleep with short inhalation or gasping, with wheezing, cold sweat, blue face; worse when put into the bath.

Larynx as if covered with dry mucus.

Rawness in larynx, with hoarseness, in the morning on awaking.

Breathing

      Oppression of chest; short inspiration; chest heaves visibly.

Asthmatic attacks in morning, wants to move continually.

Cough

      Short; dry; hacking; spasmodic and dry; at night; during measles.

Heart Pulse

      Palpitation of heart, violent, irregular, with trembling of limbs.

Pulse more frequent, but less vigorous, even small and weak.

Neck Back

      Laming pain in small of back, while sitting or standing.

Upper Limbs

      Pains extend from the face down the arms, even to finger ends.

Lower Limbs

      Sciatic or crural neuralgia, in attacks; rending, shooting, increased by walking; relieved by pressure, worse afternoon and night; restless and sleepless at night.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
