Mind

      Forgetfulness: in his daily employment; of dates.

Aversion to his own family.

Greatly depressed in mind.

Disposition to be exceedingly anxious; better morning than evening.

Apprehensiveness.

Feeling of indifference towards those he loves best; become interested and converses pleasantly with strangers.

Uncommon buoyancy of mind, fears nothing and is well satisfied with herself.

III-humored.

Sensorium

      Congestion of blood mostly to the forehead, with dulness in the occiput toward night.

Sensation of weakness, like numbness in head, same in hands.

Inner Head

      Compressing pain in the temples.

Headache in the occiput, with fulness in the head.

Headache from the nape, extending through the centre of head to the forehead; also dull feeling in the head.

Outer Head

      Sensation of numbness in the forehead.

Pain along the sutures.

Caries of the temporal bone.

Must comb the hair frequently, it mats so at the end.

Falling out of the hair, new hair dry and breaks off.

Eyes

      Heaviness about the eyes, with nausea; worse on motion.

Pressure, as if behind the right ball.

Dark spot before eye, worse reading.

Sensation as of a cold wind blowing under the lids (even in a warm room), must bind the eyes, with a cloth.

Sensation of sand in the eyes, or as if a fresh wind was blowing on them.

Feeling as if he must wink as if something was in the eye that could not be rubbed off.

Increased lachrymation.

Itching in the canthi.

Fistula lachrymalis.

Ears

      Intolerable itching in both ears.

Itching,. better momentarily from scratching, but followed by burning.

Nose

      Fluent coryza.

Obstruction of the nose.

Posterior nares feel expanded, during a walk.

Red, swollen, inflamed nose.

Itching on right side of nose.

Face

      Pale.

Heat in face, wants to wash it in cold water.

Crusta lactea, dry, scaly; itches very much.

Tubercles in skin of forehead and face, suppurating Syphilis infantum.

Teeth

      Sensation of: warmth, heaviness in the teeth; roughness of the teeth.

Mouth and teeth coated with mucus in the morning.

Toothache worse from cold drink; or improved until the water becomes warm in the mouth.

Rapid caries of teeth.

Violent pains at the root of the right eye-tooth with frequent discharge of pus.

Great sensitiveness to pressure on the gum over the right eye- tooth.

Tongue etc.

      Acrid, foul taste from the roots of the teeth.

Tongue always more or less tender, feeling of rigidity in it, with restricted mobility; painful when talking.

Tongue; vivid red at tip and edges, coated yellow in the centre; whitish and dry.

Tongue deeply and widely fissured in all directions, with a large, deep phagedenic-looking ulcer in the centre.

Mouth

      Increased flow of saliva.

Throat

      Red blotches, size of half pea, over the palate and side of cheek, bleeding easily.

Soft palate and uvula intensely red and much tumefied, breath fetid, voice nasal, articulation indistinct.

Accumulation of mucus in the fauces, disturbs sleep.

Throat peculiarly sensitive to cold, slightest exposure resulting in inflammation, with increase of pain and impended deglutition.

Constriction in the throat, with difficult deglutition; in the morning, hawking of phlegm mixed with blood.

Excessive pain when swallowing.

Desires Aversions

      Hunger predominates.

Thirst, craves refreshing drinks. Desires wine.

Aversion to coffee.

Eating and Drinking

      Warm drinks: Cold drink:. Eating: Soon after drinking: Complaints worse from sweet things.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Nausea; with general heat; eructations and lassitude.

Bilious vomiting after slight errors in diet; with increased alvine discharges, preceded by tormina.

Stomach

      Feeling of fulness and pressure in epigastrium.

Feeling of weight in the stomach between meals.

Hypochondria

      Sensitive to pressure in right hypochondrium.

Pressing pain in region of spleen, left arm.

Pain from spleen to hip.

Pinching in region of spleen.

Abdomen

      Sensation of emptiness in region of navel, with desire to take a deep breath; better from bandaging or eating.

Great tension and dropsical swelling of the abdomen.

Stool etc.

      Frequent passage of flatus and belchings, with constriction of the anus.

Very loose, bright yellow stools, with a quantity of mucus, preceded by considerable griping.

Stools chiefly during the night or early in the morning.

Stools pappy, yellowish brown, fetid, with tenesmus and prolapsus ani.

Bilious diarrhoea, worse during day, soon after drinking, especially warm drinks.

Tardy, infrequent and hard stools.

Itching in and around the anus.

Urine

      Very frequent discharge of bright colored urine, with increased thirst.

Urine scanty and dark, painful in passing; alkaline.

Whitish or purple colored sediment.

Burning before and after urination, with aching in the bladder.

Male Sexual Organs

      Increased sexual desire in old men, with violent erections at night.

Gleety discharge at night, staining the linen yellow.

Yellow drops from the urethra in the morning.

Dropsical swelling of the penis; also hydrocele.

Oily, pungent- smelling sweat on the genitals.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses: too early; too copious discharge thick and coagulated.

Metrorrhagia with, or in alternation with difficulty of breathing.

Leucorrhoea acrid: also with itching.

Pregnancy

      Itching, redness and swelling of right nipple; nipples sore, cracked; congestion to the head.

Larynx

      Weak voice.

Dryness in larynx and trachea.

Itching in larynx, causing hawking and swallowing.

Soreness and increased irritability in larynx, with impeded respiration and wheezing.

Breathing

      Difficult breathing, afternoon and evening: Oppression of chest, better when bending backwards.

Relieves in hydrothorax.

Cough

      Short, frequent cough, mostly dry, occasionally some whitish, frothy mucous expectoration.

Lungs

      Upper part of chest seems most affected.

Hydrothorax.

Heart Pulse

      Sore pain at the heart.

Small, frequent pulse.

Outer Chest

      Scaly eruption on the chest and arms.

Neck Back

      Pain in the third cervical vertebra.

Rigidity of nape. Bruised pain in sacrum.

Upper Limbs

      Pain in right shoulder-joint; shoulder-joints stiffened by rheumatism.

Slight lameness in the right arm.

Rheumatic pains in left arm, from shoulder to elbow, with lameness.

Weakness and numbness of hands.

Constant redness of the hands, especially the palms.

Burning in the hands.

Sharp sticking pain at the root of right thumb-nail.

Acute pricking, as with needles, in the fingers.

Panaritium: also simple onychia.

Nails grow more rapidly, crumpled or longitudinal ridges in them.

Lower Limbs

      Acute stitches in the right hip-bone.

Lameness in the left hip.

Left leg goes ” to sleep “easily.

OEdematous swelling up to the abdomen; top of the foot oedematous.

Burning stitches in the soles. Feet hot and burn much.

Soreness between the toes. Soreness of all the corns.

      Pain in all the limbs.

Nerves

      Increased ability to exercise his muscles without fatigue, regardless of the most excessive heat in summer or cold in winter.

Loss of strength.

Sensation of going to sleep of side not laid on.

Sleep

      Loss of sleep in evening, from crowding of thoughts.

Sleeplessness, without inclination to sleep; a short sleep suffices and refreshes him.

Sleep restless and Unrefreshing.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Chill entirely wanting.

General heat, with nausea from the slightest motion., with inclination to uncover, but mostly to wash with cold water.

Clammy, sour and unpleasant smelling sweats, mostly on upper body, m particularly during exercise in after noon and evening; sweat excessive on palms and feet. The sweat promotes excoriation and decubitus.

Sensations

      Violent jerking, burning pains confined to small spots.

Tissues

      Diseases of bones, particularly of long bones. suppurate and get better and worse periodically; pains worse at night, with great prostration.

Liver enlarged and indurated.

Skin

      Burning pains on small spots of the skin.

Dry cutaneous eruption; squamous eruptions on the body.

Elevated red blotches;, erosions, mucous tubercles.

Naevus on right temple.

Ulcers: painful; worse from warmth, better from cold;. with copious discharge, also o legs, worse at ankles, bones diseased.

Old cicatrices become red around the edges, covered or surrounded by itching vesicles, or they itch violently.

Stages and States

      Complaints of old age, also premature old age, in consequence of syphilitic mercurial dyscrasia.

Weakly constitutions, sallow of whiskey, induration of liver; ascites.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
