      Star-Anise. FRANZ. Magnoliaceae.

Inner Head

      Pains in the head; less evenings, worse mornings.

Ears

      Buzzing in the ears.

Ringing in ears, followed by sleep.

Itching over left ear, going off when touching the place.

Nose

      Acute catarrh.

Watery discharge from the nostrils.

Warm smarting sensation in nose, succeeded by sneezing.

Sharp stitches in tip of nose.

Lower Face

      Stinging sensation in upper lip, as if blood would press out, better from touch.

Dryness of upper lip, which is drawn closer to the teeth.

Burning in the inner surface of lower lip, with sensation as if it had gone to sleep.

Tongue etc.

      Rye-bread tastes well, smells refreshing.

Tongue covered with aphthae.

Aphthae most on edges of tongue.

Edges of tongue folded like little bags.

Throat

      Tough viscid phlegm from stomach; with old drunkards.

Eating and Drinking

      After eating but little, satiety.

All food, except rye-bread. tastes too salty or bitter, yet appetite is good.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Nausea in stomach, extends up to the chest, then ceases.

Nausea, with gagging and inclination to vomit.

Stomach

      Bloating of the stomach; acidity.

Hypochondria

      Pain in the splenic region.

Abdomen

      Three month’s colic; bowels disturbed.

Violent wind colic.

Rumbling in abdomen.

Stool etc.

      Stool: bilious; compact and dark colored.

Urine

      Retention of urine.

Breathing

      Old asthmatics.

Cough

      After coughing, feeling of emptiness.

Frequent cough, with pain.

Spitting blood in small quantities and with pus-like phlegm, with pain in right chest.

Whitish expectoration.

Lungs

      Tough, viscous phlegm, with old drunkards.

Pain in region of third rib, about one or two inches from the sternum, generally on right side, but occasionally left.

Heart Pulse

      Palpitation, with aphthae and weakness.

Neck Back

      Cramp-like drawings, as from a cold, in the left side of dorsal vertebrae.

Lower Limbs

      Left thigh feels as if broken at the middle, when sitting, ceases on rising.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
