      Bugle weed Labiatae.

Mind

      Increased mental and physical activity in evening.

Slight obtusion of intellect, with dull aching through sinciput. Lessened power of concentration.

Sensorium

      Vertigo, tends to stagger to right..

Inner Head

      Headache frontal, then occipital; over eyes and in frontal eminences (See ) pains are aching pressive, pressing out, congestive; are often succeeded by labored heart or cardiac depression, and are accompanied by intellectual obtuseness.

Eyes

      Feel weak as if system was overfatigued. Eyes feel full and heavy; pressing outward with pressure in front of head.

Dull pain in left supraorbital region.

Neuralgic pain in right supraorbital region and left testicle.

Teeth

      Toothache in right lower molars, then subacute pain, first in left then in right frontal eminence, in right morale, then right temple, then left molar, then left temple again to right molar, then to loins, with frontal oppression.

Throat

      Rawness at back of palate, right side extending to left.

Burning in spot in soft palate, following headache.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Nausea from back of fauces, relieved by eructations that taste of tea and drug; succeeded by persistent giddiness while sitting, and staggering while walking Nausea and faintness.

Hypochondria

      Lugging pain in spleen.

Tenderness in left hypochondrium.

Abdomen

      Flatulence and rumbling.

Aching in inguinal canals, worse walking, better upward pressure; also with pain in testicles. Bearing down as from hernia.

Stool etc.

      Severe colic, followed by profuse, forcible diarrhoea. Stool shining, dark brown, offensive. Tenesmus, with first part of semi-solid movements.

Increased action of bowels aggravated the diarrhoeic symptoms; could have a passage at any time, but sphincter under perfect control.

Urine

      Tenderness in the bladder.

Bladder feels much distended when empty, with dull pain in left lumbar region.

Urine 1012 to 1020. Deposits mucus, epithelial cells, oxalate of lime, spermatozoa.

Male Sexual Organs

      Neuralgic pain in testicle, with supraorbital pain. Acute aching in same while sitting, 1 p.m. or with occasional darting pains changing to right then to left, after rising.

Acute pain in testes, from right to left then right, then both recurring and lasting whole evening, with aching in inguinal canal.

Sharp darting through the left testicle.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses intermit for ten or twelve days; last from half an hour to six hours.

Metrorrhagia.

Vagina hot, os uteri engorged and swollen.

Puffing of parts on and around pubes and vulva, with dilated condition of vagina.

Larynx

      Constriction in larynx p.m.

Breathing

      Oppressed, with sighing breathing, p.m. wheezing; dyspnoea, as from bronchial cold, accelerated during exercise, especially when going up stairs.

Cough

      Cough with haemoptysis, and feeble, weak heart-action; deep; violent in evening and night, without awaking; renewed by change to cold weather and by cold winds.

Expectoration pale, sweetish, unpleasant-tasting at times difficult, renewed same as cough.

Lungs

      Sense of constriction across lower half of thorax, impending respiration with subacute pain; worse lying on right side.

Heart Pulse

      Constrictive pain, tenderness; marked sense of constriction.

Sensation of pressing outward in cardiac region.

Rheumatoid aching in precordial region and at apex, followed by pains in left wrist, inner side of right calf, and in subclavicular region, and again in left wrist and region of apex.

Labored action of heart; oppression. Palpitation and cardiac distress, worse morning and evening and when thinking of it.

Tumultuous and forcible beating of the heart.

Acute darting pain in heart, with intermissions of pulse and heart-beat.

Heart-beat more distinct on right sternum. First sound replaced by a blowing sound of mitral regurgitation heard upward in clavicular region, and particularly between scapulae; second sound pointed short sharp.

Heart-beat slow and weak. Diminised blood – pressure; pulse: Weak, compressible.

Pulse: many symptoms increase and decrease according to the weakness or strength of the heart’s action.

Outer Chest

      Myalgic pains, worse morning on awaking ameliorated when he lies on the right side.

Heavy aching in cervical region.

Neck Back

      Severe aching down spine, more from friction, passing off after rising morning.

Congestive pain in nape, with severe continuous dorsal and lumbar pain, worse lower left side.

Rheumatoid pains: scapular muscles; lower dorsal region; from apex of heart by friction to left subscapular region, then to mid-dorsal, and later to apex.

Severe continuous aching in lumbar region.

Flying pains in muscles, with persistent aching in loins and occiput, worse on movement.

Upper Limbs

      Rheumatoid pains: forearms and wrists, with trembling of hands.

Lower Limbs

      Rheumatoid pains: knees, legs and thighs, wandering to back, slight lameness and unsteady gait.

Left leg feels shorter than right and so sound when walking.

Position etc.

      Weak yet restless change of position.

Nerves

      Restless activity, notwithstanding the nausea, giddiness, etc.

Vital depression; hence the metal depression, tremulousness, etc.

Faintness; slight nausea, walking in open air.

Faintness, with cardiac depression.

Sleep

      Restless, full of dreams.

Wakeful on retiring, though fatigued.

Time

      Worse generally, morning and evening: 1 p.m.. 7 p.m.:.

Attacks

      Worse on alternate days.

Sides

      Pain pass from left to right, usually; then they cease or return to left. Right; 0,,, Left:,,,, right to left, left to right:,.

Sensations

      Aching, pressing, rarely darting, stitching pains. Pressing outwards. Flying pains.

Tissues

      Lowers temperature.

Lessened tonicity of blood-vessels, with consequent congestions. Heart muscle weakened.

Rheumatoid pains; erratic but returning to original location. Better from warmth; worse from cold air and movement.

Skin

      Prickings as if bitten by insects. Troublesome urticaria, especially on left forearm and right leg, before retiring.

      Compare Digit. (latter has slow and strong pulse; or, more characteristically, pulse weak and quickened by least movement; faint, nauseated feeling at pit of stomach); Cactus; Spigel. (intermittent pulse) Kalmia (slow pulse; rheumatoid pains); Magnol., grand., Hamam, (testicular pains) Antidotes; Aconite, port wine and warmth relieved pains from cold; electric current, slight achings (galvanism failed).

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
