      Tobacco. HARTLAUB. Solanaceae.

Mind

      Forgetful; slow perception.

Idiotic; epileptic idiocy.

Cheerful, merry, loquacious.

Melancholy; anxiety, better from weeping.

Sudden anxiety, with angina pectoris; also, with oppression of the chest, driving him from place to place.

Disease originating in cerebral irritation, followed by marked gastric symptoms.

Sensorium

      Vertigo: excessive heaviness in the head; with qualmishness in stomach; better out doors.

Inner Head

      Sick headache, coming on early in morning, intolerable by noon; deathly nausea, violent vomiting, greatly aggravated by noise and light.

Headache better in open air.

Eyes

      Dimsightedness, as through a veil, evenings; also with double vision.

Heat and burning in eyes; eyeballs injected, cornea covered with mucus, wipe it off.

Pupils dilated.

Contraction of lids.

Ears

      Nervous deafness.

Sensation as if ears were closed.

Ears burning hot and red.

Nose

      Smell feeble. Nasal catarrh with sensation of crawling, in nostrils.

Face

      Emaciation and death-like pallor of the face; cold, covered with sweat.

Face blue, pinched.

Face is drawn, distorted; eyes sunken; blue around them.

Lips cracked, swollen, covered with a brown crust?

Glowing heat in face, with redness frequently only on one side.

Violent tearing in bones of face and teeth.

Teeth

      Drawing, rending toothache.

Throat

      Dry and choky, can hardly swallow; burning in throat and mouth.

Violent constriction of throat. Angina pectoris.

Much viscid phlegm in throat, difficult to raise.

Uvula oedematous.

Pharynx feels as if burning, raw and scraped.

Desires Aversions

      Great thirst. Cholera infantum.

Constant hunger; nausea if stomach is not satisfied; or disgust for food.

Eating and Drinking

      Sensitive to smell of wine; fumes all but intoxicate her.

Worse eating (abdominal symptoms).

Nausea and Vomiting

      Nausea and vomiting on least motion. Cholera infantum.

Nausea and cold sweat remaining after Veratr. and Secale- checked stools. Cholera.

Eructations; sour, hot; also of small amounts of food; or loud, noisy.

Vomiting; nausea, as soon as he begins to move; during pregnancy, deathly nausea; of water; of sour fluid, with mucus.

Stomach

      Spasmodic pressure in pyloric region.

Writhing in pit of stomach. Cardialgia.

Sticking in pit of stomach through to back.

Sinking, weakness, relaxed sensation.

Various distressing sensations, as burning, cramps, sudden shocks on falling asleep, etc.

Hypochondria

      Pressure, heaviness or stitches in liver.

Liver enlarged, pressure on it sends pain to pit of stomach.

Abdomen

      Gurgling in bowels.

Shifting of flatulence.

Abdomen tympanitic, costive; also with severe pains in spells, worse eating, yet so hungry, cannot refrain, Violent burning must shriek, horrible pains. Spasms of bowels.

Violent contraction in abdominal; naval retracted.

Strangulated hernia deathly faintness, cold; Cold sweat; vomiting; sudden cerebral hyperaemia.

Stool etc.

      Sudden papescent, yellow-green or greenish slimy stools, tenesmus; shifting flatus.

Costive stools like the sheep’s, evacuated with difficulty.

Body cold, abdomen hot; not satisfied until clothing is all off abdomen. Cholera infantum.

Stools yellow sometimes greenish slime; vomiting debility cold sweat. Cholera infantum.

Cholera, body cold face distorted spasms; vomiting, or, no stool or vomit; collapse.

Soft stool, tenesmus; burning backache.

Urine

      Renal colic; violent pains along ureters (worse right); cold sweat, pale face, fainting, deathly nausea, great exhaustion.

Lungs

Heart Pulse

      Palpitation in attacks at night, tight across chest, with angina pectoris.

Oppression at heart; pulse feeble, irregular. Cholera.

Violent beating of heart and carotids.

Sudden precordial anguish.

Violent palpitation lying on side; goes off when turning to right.

Pulse: quick, full, large; imperceptible, small, intermittent; excessively slow; soft feeble.

Neck Back

      Neuralgic pains up into neck, with angina pectoris; also with tightness in the throat.

Pains between shoulders. Angina pectoris.

Violent pain in small of back and loins; usually better walking.

Throbbing in sacral region, evening.

Upper Limbs

      Left arm exhausted, painful.

Cramps in arms and hands; in single fingers, especially while washing; early morning.

Spasmodic contraction in arms and hands.

Hands feel lame, cold; then burning, with bloated fingertips.

Hands icy-cold; body warm.

Trembling of the hands.

Lower Limbs

      Legs from knees down icy-cold.

Cannot walk, with angina pectoris.

Formication in left leg, from knee to toes.

Tremor and disabling weakness of the feet.

      Coldness, trembling of limbs; cold sweat.

Chill Fever Sweat

Plant. maj. has several times caused on aversion to tobacco.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
