Introduction

Resina Itu. “A resin brought from the province of Saint Paul to Brazil.” Origin unknown.

Head

Vertigo, with tendency to fall to the right (first day). The head is heavy, it falls forward (eighth day). Stunning pain in head, worse on stooping (first day). Pressive pain in forehead and on the eyes (second day). Lancination like knife cuts in the right side of the forehead (second day). Beating in the right temple; the pain extends to the ear and maxillary joint (second day). Vertigo, with tendency to fall to the right (first day). The head is heavy and falls forward (eighth day). Stunning pain in the head, worse when stooping (first day). Pressive pain in the forehead and on the eyes (second day). Lancination in the right side of the forehead (second day). Throbbing in the right temple; the pain extends to the ear and the articulation of the jaw (second day).

Eyes

Lancinating pain in the left orbit, extending to the eyebrow (eighth day). Nictitation of the eyes (eighth day). Heaviness of the eyes when walking (eighth day). Burning in the eyelids (eighth day). Muscae volitantes like pins’ heads (eighth day). Winking of the eyes (eighth day). Heaviness of the eyes when walking (eighth day). Lancinating pain in the left orbit, terminating at the eyebrow (eighth day). Burning in the eyelids (eighth day). Black muscle volitantes, like pain-heads (eighth day).

Ears

Earache from the least dampness, descending to the maxillary joint (first day). Sudden detonating sensation in the ear, with frightful pain extending to the teeth, for two or three minutes; this paroxysm recurs at hourly intervals four times during the forenoon (seventh day); the detonations in the ears occur as often as eight times during the day (eighth day).

Nose

Frequent sneezing (ninth day). Coryza (ninth day).

Mouth

Toothache, aggravated by cold drinks (eighth day). Red tongue (twelfth day). Great difficulty in moving the tongue and in speaking (twelfth day). The tongue feels thick and as if it filled the whole mouth, though really but slightly swollen (twelfth day).

Throat

Pain in the throat, with sensation of a plug in the pharynx (twelfth day). Tonsillitis (twelfth day).

Stomach

Prolonged hiccoughing (second day). Nausea, aggravated by movement (second day).

Abdomen

Pain in the left hypochondrium on bending forward (second day) Lancinating pain in the region of the liver, worse when walking or stooping (eighth day) Pain in the abdomen from within outwards (first day) Cold feeling in the hypogastrium, especially in the evening (first day).

Anus

Burning pain at the anus, after sitting (eighth day).

Stool

Profuse painless diarrhoea (seventh day). Copious yellow, diarrhoeic stools (seventh day). Involuntary stools (sixth day). Bright yellow stool, which cannot be retained when standing up (ninth day).

Sexual organs

Burning at the vulva, followed by violent itching (ninth day).

Chest

Pain in the left breast, worse when walking (twelfth day).

Back and neck

Great stiffness of the nape of the neck, preventing him from raising or inclining the head (fifth day). Pain at the nape of the neck, penetrating to the forehead and causing numbness, and a heaviness which draws the head down (fifth day). Pain in the left side of the neck, as from torticollis (second day). Pain in the posterior spine of the ilium, when stretching the leg or rising, for several days in succession (twelfth day).

Inferior Extremities

Numbness of the legs; he cannot stand upright on rising from a seat (fourth day). Heaviness in the legs and weariness in the evening (ninth day). Severe pain in the knee joint (twelfth day). Crampy pain from the calf to the heel (ninth day). Crampy pain at the tendo Achillis (ninth day). Numbness at the ankle joint, after sitting (first day). Great numbness in the ankle joint, whenever he rises from a seat (seventh day). Cramps at the left tarsal joint (sixth day).

Skin

Much itching in the right arm, which is covered with deep red pimples, rounded like pins heads; the itching ceases in the daytime, but the eruption lasts all day; pimples on the left side of the neck; they are less inflamed, but cause the same itching (fourth day). The pimples on the arm and neck disappear gradually (fifth day). Violent itching near the sternal extremity of the right clavicle, followed by a moist eruption, which disappears in six hours (third day). Violent itching on the left breast and nipple, especially in the morning (twelfth day).

Sleep

Light but unbroken sleep at night (second day).

Fever

The detonations in the ears are followed by profuse sweat (eight day).

Dr. Timothy Field Allen, M.D. ( 1837 - 1902)

Born in 1837in Westminster, Vermont. . He was an orthodox doctor who converted to homeopathy
Dr. Allen compiled the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica over the course of 10 years.
In 1881 Allen published A Critical Revision of the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica.
