Introduction

Juglans Cinerea, Linn. Natural order: Juglandaceae Common name: Butternut. Preparation: Tincture of the bark of the root.

Mind

Want to be alone; do not want to do anything but eat and sleep; cannot think of concentrating my mind upon any one subject (twenty-first, twenty-second, and twenty-third days). Feel dull, and cannot remember anything I read (tenth day). Mind confused, so much so I could not study (third, fourth and fifth days). Absent minded, forget what I am about (eleventh and twelfth days).

Head

Vertigo. Vertigo with slight nausea at 11 AM (second day). Slight vertigo with a sinking fainting feeling in stomach, extending to the abdomen (after half an hour, first day). General Head. Headache (third, fourth and fifth days); (twenty-ninth day). Awoke in the morning with headache and heavy yellow coating on the tongue (second morning). Headache in the evening (third day). Constant headache; considerable burning and smarting on passing urine, which I am obliged to do frequently, as often as every hour or two (twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth days). Severe headache; can hardly see (eighteenth and nineteenth days). Heavy headache (third morning). Dull headache, more on right side, which lasted three hours, in the forenoon (seventh day). Severe dull headache all the forenoon, but somewhat relieved during the afternoon (thirteenth day). Head feels as large as a barrel (twenty-sixth day).; more aggravating (twenty-seventh day). Forehead. Slight feeling of fullness in frontal regions (second and third day). Dull frontal headache (fifth and sixth day). Severe frontal headache (Fourteenth and fifteenth day). Temples. Aching pain in the right temple which lasted three to four hours, in the forenoon (eighth day). Occiput. Aching pain in the occiput, in the morning, in bed, passing off on getting up (fifth day). External Head. Head itches constantly (seventh day). Scalp itches intensely; have to scratch continually (twenty- fourth and twenty-fifth days).

Eyes

Eyes read and swollen (fifth day). Burning in the eyes, in the afternoon (seventh day), Eyes feel drawn together (twenty-third day). Every sudden motion causes everything to turn dark so I cannot see; feel giddy as though I should faint away (twentieth day). Nose. Discharge of thin watery mucus from nose (twenty-fourth, twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth days); more aggravating (twenty- seventh day). Dryness of the nose (seventh day).. Numb sensation at the root of the nose (fourth day). Intense numbness in bridge of nose; have to rub it, which relieves (fifth day).

Face

All through this day, dry, burning sensation of face, with intense erythematous redness (third day); the redness and heat seemed aggravated (fourth and fifth days).

Mouth

Tongue coated white (fourth day). Tongue coated with a heavy whitish fur (twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth days). Heavy yellow coating of the tongue (second morning). Each dose produced a burning and prickling sensation of the mouth and throat, lasting an hour or two (first day). Coppery taster in mouth (twenty-third day).

Throat

Soreness of the throat (first day). Throat feels sore and swollen (sixth day). Throat feels sore, hurts to swallow even water (twenty- fourth, twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth days); more aggravating (twenty-seventh day). Roughness and soreness of the throat, in the forenoon (seventh day). Dryness of the fauces and a sensation as if the throat were swollen (second day). Pain in the right side of the fauces (fourth day). Burning in the pharynx (first day). Swelling in the submaxillary glands, more in the right gland (after a week).

Stomach

Appetite. Appetite ferocious, want to eat all the time (sixth day). Thirst. Thirsty, wants to drink all the time; first day I have felt feverish during the proving (twenty- eighth day). Nausea. Nausea in the morning (second day). Nausea was more severe through the night (eighteenth night), but is relieved today so that I can eat quite heartily (nineteenth day). Slight nausea with vertigo at 11 A.M. (second day). Terrible nausea commencing soon after retiring (eighteenth day). Stomach. Sinking faint feeling in the stomach extending to the abdomen with slight vertigo (after a half an hour, first day). Burning in the stomach (first day).

Abdomen

Hypochondria. Pain in each hypochondriac region (third day). Stitching pains in the right side region of liver (tenth day). Umbilical. Slight pain in umbilical region (third day). Dull heavy pain in umbilical region (eleventh and twelfth days). General Abdomen. Burning in the abdomen after stool (first day). Pains in different parts of the abdomen, caused by flatus (fifth day). Aching pains in the abdomen at intervals, with flatulence (thirteenth day). Aching pain in the abdomen after dinner, soon after diarrhoea, with burning in the anus (fourth day). Iliac Region. Aching pain in the region of the inguinal rings and great soreness felt on rising from a recumbent position, (ninth day).

Stool

Diarrhoea. Diarrhoea with cutting in abdomen (first day). Diarrhoea without pain, in the forenoon (sixth day). Diarrhoea with burning in the anus, soon after the aching pain in the abdomen (fourth day). Diarrhoea with burning in the anus before and after stool (after three hours, first day). Yellow, frothy diarrhoea, with tenesmus and burning in the anus after stool, at 3 P. M. (second day). Full cathartic action, producing four or five large bilious discharges, in twenty-four hours, without pain or gripping; at this point, as the diarrhoea was becoming unpleasant, the proving was discontinued, after which the diarrhoea speedily subsided. Soft stool, without pain and flatulence in the abdomen (fourteenth day). Stool again soft and brown (eighteenth and nineteenth days). Stool soft, and sticky, dark (twenty- third day). Stool dark-brown (third day). Stool small and brown (fourth day). Stool hard and dark-brown (twenty- ninth day). Stool first part hard and brown, latter part diarrhoeic and of a greenish-yellow color (ninth day). Stools hard and in balls (twenty-sixth day); more aggravating (twenty-seventh day). Constipation. Constipation (seventh, ninth, and tenth days); (tenth, eleventh, and twelfth days). Bowels constipated, with considerable gripping in the umbilical region (twenty-eighth day). Bowels moved this morning with great effort, stool hard and brown (thirteenth day). No movement of the bowels (twenty-fifth day).

Urinary organs

Inclination to void urine more frequently and more copiously than usual (fifth day). Considerable burning and smarting on passing urine, which I am obliged to do frequently, as often as every hour or two (twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth days).

Respiratory organs

Raising a quantity of dark-colored blood (first day).

Chest

Pain in the left chest (second day). Oppression of the chest (first day). Can hardly get a long breath, from a sense of oppression of chest (twenty-ninth day).

Heart and Pulse

Accelerated pulse (fourteenth day), Pulse accelerated 15 beats, 75 being natural (twenty-eighth day).

Back and neck

Neck. Rigid state of the muscles of the neck (first day). Back of the neck feels lame (twenty-third day). Back. Pricking sensation up and down the spine (eighth and ninth days). Dorsal. Pain between the shoulders (fifth day). Pain under the right scapula, making breathing painful (sixth day); pain continues (seventh and eighth days), slight (ninth day)/ Pain under the vertical border of the right scapula, increased by moving the part, and by drawing a long breath (fifth day). Pain under the left scapula (fourth day). Aching in the right scapula (fourth day). Stitch like pain under the right scapula when stooping (fourth day). Lumbar. Pain in the lumbar and dorsal vertebrae, at night (thirteenth day). Violent pain in the region of the lumbar vertebrae and sacro-illiac symphysis, worse when sitting down, in the forenoon (seventh day). Aching pain in the lumbar vertebrae, extending through the lumbar region and up the spine (fourth day). Aching pain in the region of the lumbar vertebrae and right sacro-illiac symphysis (third day). Aching pain in the region of the lumbar vertebrae with restlessness, in the afternoon (fifth day). Occasional shooting pain in the lumbar region (fourth day). Sacral. Aching pain in the region of the sacro-illiac symphysis, worse while sitting (fifth day).

Extremities

Aching pains in the limbs (fourteenth day).

Superior Extremities

Shoulder. Pain in the left shoulder (first day). Pain in the left shoulder, in the left elbows, and in the knees (first day). Aching pain in the right shoulder (third day). Dull, aching pain in the right shoulder (fifth day). Sharp rheumatic pain in both shoulders and wrists (fourth day). Numb pain in the right axilla, extending down the arms along the course of the nerves (fifth and sixth days). Aching pain in the right axilla, in the afternoon (seventh day). Dull, aching pain in the right axilla, extending down the arms (third day). Arm. Dull pain in the left arm (fourth day). Aching pains in the arms and wrists, as if sprained by hard work (fourth day). Wrist. Numb pain in the wrists and arms, in the forenoon (seventh day). Aching pains in the wrists, extending up the arms (seventh day).

Dr. Timothy Field Allen, M.D. ( 1837 - 1902)

Born in 1837in Westminster, Vermont. . He was an orthodox doctor who converted to homeopathy
Dr. Allen compiled the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica over the course of 10 years.
In 1881 Allen published A Critical Revision of the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica.
