    Common name: Red-root.

Introduction

Lachnanthes tinctoria, Ell. Natural order: Haemodoraceae. Preparation: Tincture of the whole plant.

Mind

Lively, singing, and whistling (first day). Towards evening he is in good spirits (third day). Low-spirited (after three- quarters of an hour, third day). Ill-humored and sleepy, at 5 p. m. (fifth day). Became much excited over a trifle; he had suppressed his anger, in the evening (second day).

Head

Vertigo. Giddiness in the head (after five minutes, third day). General Head. Sensation of dulness in the head (second day). Headache till 10 A.M. (sixteenth day). Headache, with pressing out of the eyes, in the forenoon (fourth day). Dull headache. Stinging headache every day for about four weeks (after twenty- four days). Headache in the morning, worse at noon; she becomes more giddy; in the evening the headache is a stinging pain; at 6 P. M. the head feels enlarged, and as if split open with a wedge from the outside to within; the body is icy cold, she cannot get warm, although one and a half hours under a feather bed; the whole face becomes yellow; she has to whine with the headache; the head burns like fire, with much thirst (eight days); same attack, but less severe in the evening (ninth day). Forehead. Dull pain in the forehead (after three-quarters of an hour, third day). Pain in the forehead (first night). Pain in the right side of the forehead, extending around the right side of the occiput, when lying down in bed; shortly afterwards a dull pain over the occiput, which was followed by stiffness of the neck (fifth day). Dull headache in the forehead and temples (fifth day). Drawing of the skin on the forehead upwards, worse on the left side (after one hour and three quarters, third day). Pain in the forehead, drawing from the right to the left side, better after eating, towards evening (first day). A continued stitch in the left part of the forehead from within to without (after fifteen minutes); the stinging changed in a few minutes into a pressing pain, and extended from the left part of the forehead to the right side, over the whole forehead, as if it were pressing from within outwards; the pressing pain in the forehead became a dull sensation, in the whole forehead (first day). Tearing in the forehead, from the left to the right side (after two hours, second day). Tearing in the forehead from the left temple to the right, in the evening; the tearing in the forehead continues all night, and awakens him several times from his sleep (sixth day). Tearing in the right side of the forehead down into the cheeks (after three hours and three-quarters, third day). Painful tearing in the forehead, in the open air (fifth day). Temples. Pressing in the right temple (fifth day). Vertex. Sensation as if the vertex was enlarged, and was extended upwards (after fifteen minutes, first day). On the left upper vertex pressing as by a finger (after one hour and a half, second day). Tearing in the vertex (after eight hours and a quarter, third day). External Head. Sensation as if the hair was standing on end, worse on the occiput (after one hour and a half, first day). The whole scalp is painful when touched (after one hour and a half, second day). The scalp is very painful on the vertex (after first dose, fourth day). The scalp is very painful, especially when touched on the vertex (fifth day).

Eye

Objective. Bright, sparkling eyes (twelfth day). Secretion of white mucus from the eyes. Twitching of the canthus (twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth days). Subjective. Dryness of the eyes (twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth days). Pressing in the left eye, in the afternoon (tenth day). Pressing in both external canthi, in the morning (third day). Pressing in the eyes, as from dust, first in the right and then in the left (after three hours and a half, first day). Pressing as from dust in the eyes, with secretion of white mucus from the eyes. Pressing out of the eyes, with headache, in the forenoon (fourth day). Pressing pain over the left eye, near the glabella (seventh day). The right eye begins to itch, but does not become red (sixth day). Itching in the left internal canthus of the eye (after one hour and a half, second day). Brow. Drawing of the eyebrows and eyelids upwards, so that he looks with fixed eyes; even when he tries to bring them down with force, they continually go up again; this sensation lasts one hour (after three-quarters of an hour, second day). Lids. The margin of the eyelids a little swollen, in the afternoon (fourth day). When closing the eyes, visible twitching of the upper eyelids; closing them firmly makes it worse (fifth day). Sensation of twitching in the upper eyelids (after three hours and a half, first day). The left upper eyelid, near the inner canthus, begins to itch in the afternoon; a small hard knot is formed on the spot, which becomes red (fifth day); the redness has extended farther, and is covered by little vesicles; they itch a great deal (sixth day); it has almost disappeared (tenth day). Lachrymal Apparatus. Sensation in the left os lachrymale, as if something separated itself, afterwards extending from that part over the left eye into the left temple; behind the left ear a bruised pain (after one hour and a half, second day). Ball. Sensation as if the eyeball was pressed together from below (after one hour and a half, first day). Pupil. Pupils enlarged (after five minutes, third day). Pupils very much enlarged (after three-quarters of an hour, second day). Vision. Dimness of sight (after half an hour, tenth day). Obscuration of sight, lasting from one to two hours (second day). If he moved his head quickly, his sight became quite obscure (after five minutes, third day). Sight became obscured (after five minutes); disappearing while walking about, returning after sitting down (after fifteen minutes, third day). Sight became obscure; if he looked intently on anything he saw gray rings, which were fixed to the spot (after fifteen minutes, first day). If he read any time, all became black before his eyes, and he had to look away (after two hours, second day). If he looked at any spot for some time, it became quite dark (second day). Ear.

Tearing in the right ear (seventh day). Tearing in the left ear (fourth and seventh days). Tearing in the left ear, of short duration (after three hours and three-quarters, third day). While eating, crawling in the right ear (after two hours, second day). Tingling in the right ear (after one hour and a half, first day). Tingling in the left ear, relieved by boring with the finger, but it begins again immediately, and then the ear feels as if closed, with singing in it (after two hours, second day). Itching in the left ear, and soon afterwards in the right ear, towards evening (first day). Itching in the right ear; after introducing the finger and taking it out again, sensation as if cold air was rushing into the ear (fourth day). Hearing. Singing before the left ear (after one hour and a half, first day). Singing in the right ear, while walking in the open air, in the afternoon (sixth day). Cracking in the right ear, followed by a sensation as if the ear would discharge (fourth day).

Nose.

Objective. Coryza after the cough and sore throat, at night in bed (third night). Violent bleeding of the nose (half a pint); the blood is pale (sixth day); bleeding of the nose, but less violent, at 4 P. M. (seventh day). Subjective. Burning on the right side of the root of the nose (eighth day). A pressure as from the thumb on the right side of the nose (after one hour and a half, first day). The prover had fallen when a child and broken the nasal bones, which had partly suppurated and left an indentation. *) A strong pressure on the left side of the nose (after one hour and a half, second day). Crawling in the left nostril (after one hour and a half, second day).

Face

The whole face becomes yellow (eighth day). Circumscribed redness of the face, in the afternoon (twenty-fourth and twenty- fifth days), at 8 P. M. Pressing tearing in the left cheek, towards the eye, as if the eye would be pressed out (third day).

Mouth

Sensation as if the upper eye-teeth and incisors were loosened, with sensation of soreness, worse when closing the teeth or when touching them with the tongue (after eight hours and a quarter, third day). Pain in all the teeth whilst drinking coffee (after three hours and a half, first day). Pain in all the teeth; they feel too long and loose, in the afternoon; toothache worse in bed (twentieth, twenty-first, and twenty-second days). Sudden pain in all the teeth, while eating broth at noon; pain in all the upper teeth after eating (sixth day). Tearing from the left temple down to the left molar teeth (after one hour, second day). On the left side of the tongue, far back, sensation as from biting on it (second day). Saliva thick and tough (after three hours and three- quarters, third day). Tincture tasted bitter (fifth day).

Born in 1837in Westminster, Vermont. . He was an orthodox doctor who converted to homeopathy
Dr. Allen compiled the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica over the course of 10 years.
In 1881 Allen published A Critical Revision of the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica.
