   Common names: Butter and eggs, Toad-flax; (G)., Frauenflachs, Leinkraut.

Introduction

Linaria vulgaris, Millefolium Natural order: Scrophulariaceae. Preparation: Tincture of the plant.

Mind

Emotional. Peevish mood. Indifference (first day). Intellectual. General dulness (fist day). Stupid, feeling of indifference, ill-humor, with dull pain in the forehead, with heat after the sleep, lasting till night.

Head.

Confusion of the head (after 10 drops). Confusion of the head, with irresistible sleepiness (first day). Head very much confused all day (after 20 drops). Pressure in the frontal region (after 20 drops).

Mouth.

Dryness of the tongue, in the morning on waking, associated with some thirst, so that I desired to drink water before rising, which was very unusual; water, however, did not have a good taste, it seemed to have something rough in it, and I noticed that it glided unpleasantly over the tongue, and in fact, an examination showed that the taste-papillae were somewhat elevated. Tongue dry, with a prickling sensation along its margins and tip (after 20 drops). A burning prickling sensation on the tongue that extended down into the throat and caused a tickling irritation to cough, on smoking the fist cigar in the morning; I was scarcely able to continue smoking. Increased secretion of saliva, which causes frequent spitting. Taste of blood in the mouth.

Throat.

Feeling of constriction in the throat,; (second day). Sensation of constriction in the throat, as if a ball were lodged in it which should be swallowed.

Stomach

Appetite. Appetite diminished (first day),; (after 10 drops). Loss of appetite. Thirst. Thirst (after 20 drops). Eructation. Frequent eructations,; (first day). Frequent eructations preceding and following the usual stool (after one hour, first day). Empty eructations (after fifteen minutes). Eructations of odorless air; afterwards also of water. Eructations of odorless air, with some discomfort, nausea, and frequent involuntary shivering of the whole body (after half an hour). Sweetish eructations. Frequent bitter eructations (after 20 drops). Nausea and Vomiting. Nausea. General sick feeling, with sleepiness and sleep for two hours, between 10 and 12 in the forenoon. Inclination to vomit (fist day). Vomiting of this mucous substances, followed by disappearance of all the gastric symptoms (fist day). Stomach. Pressure in the stomach. Pressure in the stomach, with frequent eructations. Pressure in the epigastric region (after 20 drops). Very acute pressure in the stomach, aggravated by touch.

Abdomen

Griping about the umbilicus, which, from time to time, increases in intensity (after 20 drops). Rumbling in the intestines (first day). Rumbling in the abdomen, and in the course of two hours, four watery stools, with very little bile pigment (after 20 drops). Flatulence causes an uneasy sensation in the abdomen. Griping in the abdomen, followed after half an hour by a watery stool (after 10 drops). Griping in the intestines, followed after an hour by the usual stool (after fifteen minutes).

Anus.

Burning in the anus.

Stool

Diarrhoea; stools thin, four times (second day). Stel watery stools, containing very little bile-pigment, with emission of much flatus (after 30 drops). Seven watery stools of a very pale color, with emission of much flatus (after second dose of 30 drops). Four thin stools during the day. Three thin stools in one morning. Very dark colored faeces.

Urinary Organs

Great desire to urinate, with frequent micturition; urine increased in quantity and frothy, but unchanged in other respects (first night). Copious secretion of urine. Urine diminished in quantity, and of a dark color. Urine very high- colored, like dark beer, and passed more frequently than usual.

Sexual Organs.

Menstruation a few days earlier than usual. Menstruation which had just ceased returned the same day that she took a new dose.

Chest

Oppression of the chest that made respiration difficult, and caused cough; violent paroxysms of cough, so that at times I was obliged to stand quite still, in order the more easily to cough it out, and regain my breath. Transient stitches in the chest. Transient stitches, here and there, deep in the chest and abdomen (first day).

General Symptoms.

General prostration. Symptoms were relieved for a short time after taking tea with milk (renewed quite severely and persistently on walking in the open air).

Skin

Itching on the throat, chest, and upper part of the back.

Sleep

Frequent yawning and stretching of the limbs, with a feeling of weakness and prostration (first day). Sleepiness. Irresistible sleepiness (first day). Sleep the forepart of the night quiet and refreshing, on waking felt invigorated, so that it seemed as though he had slept the whole night until late in the morning, and he was quite astonished to find that it was only half past twelve; the remainder of the night was sleepless, with confused dreams towards morning.

Fever

Coldness (first day). Alternations of chill and heat (first day).

Conditions.

Aggravation (morning), On rising, dryness of tongue, etc.; (Forenoon), Between 10 and 12 o’clock, sick feeling. (Walking in open air), The symptoms.

Amelioration

Dr. Allen compiled the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica over the course of 10 years.
In 1881 Allen published A Critical Revision of the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica.
