DISEASES OF THE EYES, BRAIN, ETC. IN THE HORSE

Consists of an inflammation of a part or the whole of the eye; the following are the usual symptoms that present themselves. On being led from the stable, the animal is observed to partially close the eyelids, which are swollen and inflamed on the inside of the Conjunctiva; the part of the eye that should be white is also very much injected with blood; frequently there is profuse weeping, at other times the eye is at first dry, but it soon becomes covered with a creamy sort of matter, which runs out and as it were, glues the lids together; the transparent cornea will be of a dull whitish colour; on placing the hand over the eye a sensation of heat is frequently communicated to it. This disease is frequently produced by cold, badly ventilated stables, or stables that are not sufficiently lighted.
