General [General]

The causes that produce this disease state are food of bad quality, exposure to cold, &c.; or it may be only a symptom of a general diseased state when such is the case, it will most likely disappear from the use of the medicines indicated by the generality of the symptoms.

REMEDIES: Arsenicum, Bryonia, China, Ipecacuanha, Mercurius vivus, Chamomilla and Sulphur.

Arsenicum [Ars]

Arsenicum is indicated if the evacuations are watery or mixed with blood and mucus, and smell very offensively, with loss of appetite, and the animal wastes fast.

Dose. Ten drops every four or six hours until better.

Bryonia [Bry]

Bryonia, is good if there is alternately diarrhoea and constipation, the animal frequently turns its head towards the flanks.

Dose. Ten drops or globules twice a day.

China [Chin]

China, if the evacuations consist partly of undigested food, pain during the discharge, loss of appetite, great dislike to particular kinds of food.

Dose. The same as directed for Bryonia.

Ipecacuanha [Ip]

Ipecacuanha, if the evacuations are dark, sometimes mixed with blood and mucus, and have the appearance of fermenting.

Dose. Ten drops or globules three or four times a day.

Mercurius vivus [Merc-v]

Mercurius vivus, for copious yellow or dark evacuations, violent straining, obstinate diarrhoea having a putrid smell.

Dose. The small as directed for Ipecacuanha.

Chamomilla [Cham]

Chamomilla, if there is pain just before an evacuation, excrements of a greenish colour and mixed with phlegm.

Dose. The same as directed for Mercurius vivus.

Sulphur [Sulph]

Sulphur may be given during any stage of the disease.

Dose. Ten drops every night.

Diarrhoea in calves is generally checked by the following medicines. Mercurius vivus, Sulphur and Arsenicum.

Dose. The same as above recommended.
