COMMON NAME:

      RHUBARB.

Symptoms

      Especially suitable for children, during lactation and dentition (Calcarea, Calcarea phos., Magnesia carb., Podophyllum, Silicea, Sulphur)

We use this remedy most particularly for sour-smelling children; stools, vomit, breath-all smell sour (G.).

Nightly sleeplessness with lying about and crying.

All joints are painful when moving (Arnica, Bryonia, Chamomilla, Colchicum, Kali bichromicum, Ledum, Lycopodium, Mang., Nux vomica, Phytolacca, Ruta).

Bubbling sensation, as from small bubbles in the muscles and joints.

The limbs on which one lies go to sleep (Arnica, Bryonia, Calcarea, Carb- V., China, Kali carb., Lycopodium, Pulsatilla, Rhododendron, Rhus toxicodendron, Silicea, Sambucus).

Debility and heaviness in the whole body as if he was awakened from a heavy sleep.

Cool perspiration (around the mouth and the chin and the palms of the hand).

THE CHILD’S WHOLE BODY SMELLS SOUR (Calcarea, Hepar) (D.).

Very sour smell of the child, which cannot be removed by any amount of washing and care in keeping it clear (G.).

Cholera infantum: stools frequent, uniformly frothy, watery and of a per-green colour (Sm.).

Diarrhoea with cutting pains about the navel (Aloe, Ipecac.) (Bt.).

Colic and diarrhoea during dentition (Magnesia carb.) (N.).

Brown and frothy stools (Arnica, Kali bichromicum, Magnesia carb., Mercurius, Nat-S., Sulphur) (D.).

Diarrhoea of sour, slimy stools, with tenesmus and griping colic (Mercurius) (D.).

STOOLS ARE SOUR (Calcarea, Hepar, Magnesia carb., Mercurius, Phosphorus, Sulphur). AND THERE IS TENESMUS (Nux vomica, Mercurius, Sulphur).

YELLOW STOOL, TURNING GREEN ON STANDING (Argentum nitricum) (K.).

Screaming of children, with urging and sour stools (A.).

CHILDREN CRY AND TOSS ABOUT ALL NIGHT (Psorinum) (A.).

Child impatient, desire many this, and cries; dislikes even favorite play-things (Chamomilla, Cina, Staphysagria) (A.).

Its temper is as acrid and acid as are the stools (Bl.).

Loathing after first bite (B.).

Desires many kinds of food, but cannot eat them; becomes repugnant (A.).

Colic: Worse at once by uncovering an arm or leg; with very sour stool; worse when standing; not better by stool (A.).

Difficult dentition: child restless, irritable, peevish, with pale face and sour smell (Chamomilla, Kreosotum) (A.).

Sweat of the scalp, constant, profuse; whether asleep or awake, quiet or in motion, the hair is always wet; may or may not be sour (Calcarea, Sanicula) (A.).

Perspiration on the upper part of the body (Asarum europaeum, Carbo vegetabilis, Chamomilla, Kali carb., Acid nitricum, Opium, Par., Secale, Thuja, Veratrum; on the lower-Am-C., Apis., Coloc., Croc., Cyclamen, Euphrasia, Hyoscyamus, Mang., Mercurius, Acid nitricum, Sepia, Thuja) (K.).

Colic with cries; AMELIORATION by doubling up, and aggravated by uncovering any part (B.).

Shivering during stool (Mercurius) (C.).

Snoring inspiration during sleep (C.).

Vivid, sad, anxious dreams (C.).

May be given after abuse of magnesia, with or without rhubarb, if stools are sour (A.).

Gout with fibrous deposit in great toe-joint (Colchicum, Ledum) (A.).

AGGRAVATION :

      At night; during dentition; from uncovering any part; when standing; during stool; from eating; and during summer.

AMELIORATION:

      From warmth; from wrapping up; and from doubling

up.

RELATIONSHIP:

      Compare: Arsenicum, Calcarea, Chamomilla, Collinsonia, Hepar, Ipecac., Merc-C., Mercurius, Natrum muriaticum, Podophyllum, Sanicula, Staphysagria, and Sulph.

It follows well after Magnesia carb., when milk disagrees land the child has sour odour.

Remedies following: Belladonna, Calcarea, Pulsatilla, Rhus toxicodendron and Sulph.

Adolph Lippe
Adolph Lippe (born near Goerlitz, Prussia, 11 May 1812; died in Philadelphia, 23 January 1888) was a homeopathic physician who worked in the United States. Adolph got a legal education at Berlin. After completing his legal studies, Lippe became interested in homeopathy, and emigrated to the United States in 1837 to further his study. In 1838, he enrolled in the North American Academy of Homeopathy at Allentown, Pennsylvania, from where he graduated in 1841. He settled in Philadelphia, where from 1863 until 1868 he was professor of materia medica in the Homeopathic College of Pennsylvania. Besides some essays and treatises from the French, German, and Italian which became standards, Lippe was the author of:
