COMMON NAME:

      VALERIAN.

Symptoms

      Acts very beneficially in soothing nervous irritability in the neurotic.

Rheumatic tearing in the limbs, worse during rest after motion, better during motion (Rhus toxicodendron).

Violent tearing up and down in the muscles of the extremities.

Nervousness, especially at the climaxis, or at the time of institution of the menstrual epochs.

Twitching, suddenly-appearing pains, relieved by change of position.

Of great value in hysteria (Coffea, Scutel., Vib.).

Vertigo, in hysterical females (Pulsatilla) (G.).

Red parts become white (Ferrum) (A.).

Mental confusion; replies incoherently (Arnica, Baptisia, Hyoscyamus) (A.).

Of great utility in general nervousness, obsessions, night terrors, extreme impressionability and bad effects from impurity of life.

Choking on falling asleep (Belladonna, Crotalus horridus, Kali carb., Lac-C., Lachesis, Naja, Nux vomica, Sepia, Teucrium) (Bl.).

Suppressed catamenia (Bryonia, Ferrum, Graphites, Natrum muriaticum, Pulsatilla, Vib.).

Great nervous irritation, cannot sit still (Kali-Br., Phosphorus) (N.).

Tearing pains and cramps indifferent places (Cuprum) (N.).

Short chill with thirst. Chill begins in the neck and runs down the back (heat begins in the neck and runs down the back–Paris), with fainting during chill (during heat–Aconite) (A.).

Long-lasting, severe, heat, with thirst and dull headache; with restlessness and neuralgia of the limbs (A.).

Profuse sweat, worse at night, but not debilitating sweat from exertion. Sweat on the face with heat. Better after sweat (A.).

Urine contains a white, red or turbid sediment (Lycopodium) (C.).

Sudden stitching in the chest and in the region of the liver, from within outward (C.).

AGGRAVATION:

      Towards noon; in the first hours of the afternoon; towards evening until midnight; periodically (every two to three months); while standing; when sitting; and on falling asleep.

AMELIORATION:

      From walking; and after sweat.

      Compare: Aethusa, Asafoetida, Asarum europaeum, Chamomilla, Croc., Ignatia, Lac-C., Natrum muriaticum, Silicea, Spigelia, Sulphur, and Zincum met.

Adolph Lippe
Adolph Lippe (born near Goerlitz, Prussia, 11 May 1812; died in Philadelphia, 23 January 1888) was a homeopathic physician who worked in the United States. Adolph got a legal education at Berlin. After completing his legal studies, Lippe became interested in homeopathy, and emigrated to the United States in 1837 to further his study. In 1838, he enrolled in the North American Academy of Homeopathy at Allentown, Pennsylvania, from where he graduated in 1841. He settled in Philadelphia, where from 1863 until 1868 he was professor of materia medica in the Homeopathic College of Pennsylvania. Besides some essays and treatises from the French, German, and Italian which became standards, Lippe was the author of:
