Our editor warns about the FDA’s new hearings on homeopathy.

On April 20th –21st , 2015, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is holding hearings to re-evaluate homeopathy’s status. The FDA has long been dominated by the pharmaceutical industry, and has a history of suppressing alternative therapies that compete with Pharma. Most recently the FDA spent 14 years and $60 million to discredit Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski, whose cancer treatment is now accepted practice.1 The FDA is a revolving door staffed by former drug company executives. Those who leave FDA are often hired by that industry2,3.    In 2009 President Barack Obama appointed former Monsanto VP and head lobbyist Michael Taylor to Deputy Commissioner of the FDA. So, when the FDA announces it will re-evaluate homeopathy’s status, that statement must be seen in the light of their past history. Will they claim homeopathy doesn’t work, or that it’s dangerous? 4

If you live in the U.S., it is crucial that you contact your congressmen and senators and instruct them to tell the FDA, “Hands off homeopathy!”.  Here is a sample letter you can send:

“The FDA is holding hearings on homeopathy April 20th  – 21st. They are going to re-evaluate homeopathy’s status.  The FDA has long been dominated by the pharmaceutical industry, and has a long history of suppressing alternative treatments. Any decision to restrict availability of homeopathic remedies would negatively impact millions of consumers. Tell the FDA “hands off homeopathy”. I expect you to stand up for freedom of choice in healthcare. “

  • It is time for homeopaths stop fighting each other about their stupid differences and unite to fight for the inalienable right of everybody to take care of their health as they please. We have an issue of fundamental liberties against FDA.

  • Thank you very much, Alan, for your article regarding the FDA hearing. Was aware and had written my senators and congressman but your cartoon said it much better than I did so I sent that along to my legislators, too. It was a succinct depiction of the reality of this entire fiasco and I am indebted to your artistry!

All of you at Hpathy work so diligently to do so much to help so many. Thank you all!

  • Hi Georgianna,

Thanks for getting involved and writing your legislators. If only 100,000 people would do that. I ‘m glad you liked the cartoon. The situation begged to be stated simply and graphically.
