EDITORIAL – Homeopaths Treating COVID-19

I am informed that the Indian government and the AYUSH department are now permitting homeopathic doctors to treat COVID-19 cases as an adjunct to allopathic treatment. That’s a step in the right direction considering that there are no conventional medicines recommended to prevent or treat the virus. In terms of manpower, it’s a timely decision. The Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI) reported that there is only one allopathic government doctor for every 10,926 people in India.

Incorporating homeopathy is also fortunate because reports of success in treating COVID-19 with homeopathy are coming in from around the world. The American Institute of Homeopathy (AIH) is compiling successfully treated cases from the U.S., France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Canada, Turkey, and India.

Homeopath Jeremy Sherr who has long worked with epidemics in South Africa, has successfully treated many COVID -19 patients.  Homeopath Denise Straiges recently formed the Homeopathy Help Now Task Force.  This group is sharing cured COVID and presumed COVID cases from the above countries as well as the UK, Israel, Russia, China, Italy, and Belgium.  Homeopath Andre Saine is also reporting on numerous cured cases from various nations.

As with most illnesses, the best chances of success are always in the beginning, when symptoms first appear. Homeopathic remedies are reasonably easy to select at that time, and they work quickly. An accurate and early intervention with homeopathy may prevent development into the more serious stages. We hope Indian homeopaths will have the opportunity to treat patients early on.

For COVID symptoms that have become more severe, the steroid Dexamethasone has recently been found useful, especially in preventing the immune overreaction known as the cytokine storm. The use of steroids points to another reason that it is important for homeopaths to treat cases when first suspected. It becomes more difficult to assess symptoms, or for remedies to be effective once patients are on steroids.

India recently surpassed Russia as having the world’s third-highest number of coronavirus infections (about 700,000). We hope that, as authorities see positive results with homeopathy, homeopathy will be given a greater role and the coronavirus curve will begin to flatten. This is a time for medical professionals to pull together, with mutual respect, using their best specialized skills for the good of humanity.
