Power Over Pain
Alan V. Schmukler

I was at the sink washing dishes. Suddenly I had such intense back pain that I couldn’t move. The slightest movement of any part of my body caused great pain.  Fortunately, my wife was in the next room.  I shouted for her to bring me Bryonia. She tossed it on my tongue while I clung to the edges of the sink. In a few moments the pain disappeared.

One day there was a loud, insistent knocking at the door.  I opened it to find one of my former clients bent over in pain.  “Can you help me!” She’d had an argument with her husband and shortly after developed extreme abdominal pain. I gave her a dose of Colocynth and within seconds her frightened expression softened into a little smile of surprise.

Such stories are familiar to anyone who has used homeopathy. Mothers with a basic knowledge of homeopathy often use remedies to treat routine injuries as well as painful acute conditions like childhood earache.

In chronic conditions, homeopathy’s power over pain is equally effective. A healthcare worker with chronic debilitating sciatica got permanent relief after I suggested a few doses of Gnaphalium.

My mother was relieved of chronic, intense muscular pain forever, after taking Causticum 30 and 200. Similar results have occurred with cases of migraine, herpes zoster, neuralgias, etc.

Our repertories list around 400 remedies for various kinds of pain, including “intolerable pain.”  As always, the remedies aren’t just relieving pain, they’re curing what caused it.

Of course, there are situations where allopathic drugs, like the opiates, are temporarily needed. The urgency of a situation may not offer time to take a case, or the symptom picture is not easily grasped.

In the West, homeopathy is not incorporated into the medical systems, and so allopathic pain drugs are usually the only option. This has led to a great overuse of those drugs, especially the opiates.

How bad is this problem?  In the U.S., chronic pain affects an estimated 100 million Americans.1 More than 191 million opioid prescriptions were written for American patients in 2017.2    That same year, about 1.7 million Americans had a substance use disorders related to prescription opioids.1

Since 1999, the sale of opioid painkillers grew by 300%.  In the U.S., 46 people die every day from overdoses involving prescription opioids. 4

Homeopathic remedies are never addictive, they are safe, having no chemical side effects and they cost pennies a dose. Their pain relieving ability can sometimes rival that of opiates. If homeopathy were widely adopted, it could relieve so much needless suffering.  Meanwhile, the U.S. FDA is trying to ban homeopathic remedies.5

You can help oppose the FDA move by sending a message to the FDA at this link:

https://homeopathychoice.org/fda-comments-landing/   People who live in other countries can also write the FDA at this same link.  There’s a pre-written message, or you can write your own.  We want 100,000 signatures to let the FDA and the Congress know that homeopathy is important to very many people.
