Samuel Hahnemann, MD (1755-1843) was the founder of homeopathic medicine. He was a learned chemist and author of the leading German textbook for apothecaries (pharmacists) of the day. He stopped practicing conventional medicine of his day because he felt that he was doing more harm than good.
