South Downs School of Homeopathy based in Chichester, UK has been running a successful low-cost homeopathy clinic since the inception of the School in 1997. The clinic has two principle aims: Firstly, it is for people who would like homoeopathic treatment, but find it difficult to pay full costs and secondly, it forms part of a rigorous training programme and learning experience for 3rd and 4th year students. It is the students who take the cases and who each manage a small caseload under the supervision of an experienced homeopath and tutor of the School.
Clinics are held once a month on a Saturday in Chichester, and are attended by two students, myself, and of course the patient! We start the day by going through the notes of all the patients on the list so that the student is familiar with the case history, treatment to date, and remedies prescribed. Each student is allocated their patients and whilst one student is taking the case, the second student and myself are observing and making our own notes. I factor into each appointment some time at the end of the session to clarify anything I need to with the patient, or to fill in any gaps.
Remedies are not prescribed on the spot, but once all the patients have been seen the three of us will go over the cases, discuss, and dispense the remedies for the student to send on to their patients. The student then becomes that patient’s homeopath until they are next seen at clinic. The patient is encouraged to contact the student if they have any queries, acutes, or reactions, and the student will then consider the appropriate course of action and contact me for guidance. Students are not allowed to prescribe without first contacting me.
Some of our patients have been coming to us for many years – one I can think of has been coming since the clinic first started all those years ago. I have been running it myself since 2007. Patients come mostly through word of mouth, and frequently by recommendation from 1st and 2nd year students keen to build up a patient base for when they will be student practitioners. It is popular with families, and we will often see several members of one family, particularly children, at consecutive appointments.
We are centrally based in Chichester, about 10 minutes walk from the train station and very close to local car parks.
The charges for the Clinic are as follows:
Adults 1st appointment £20 follow-up £15
Children 1st appointment £15 follow-up £10
The clinic address is:
New Town Consulting Room,
