Homeopath Sally Nunn describes the functions of the South Downs School of Homeopathy Low-Cost Clinic. In addition to providing service to patients, it serves as training for 3rd and 4th year students who are fully supervised.

South Downs School of Homeopathy based in Chichester, UK has been running a successful low-cost homeopathy clinic since the inception of the School in 1997. The clinic has two principle aims: Firstly, it is for people who would like homoeopathic treatment, but find it difficult to pay full costs and secondly, it forms part of a rigorous training programme and learning experience for 3rd and 4th year students. It is the students who take the cases and who each manage a small caseload under the supervision of an experienced homeopath and tutor of the School.

Clinics are held once a month on a Saturday in Chichester, and are attended by two students, myself, and of course the patient! We start the day by going through the notes of all the patients on the list so that the student is familiar with the case history, treatment to date, and remedies prescribed. Each student is allocated their patients and whilst one student is taking the case, the second student and myself are observing and making our own notes. I factor into each appointment some time at the end of the session to clarify anything I need to with the patient, or to fill in any gaps.

Remedies are not prescribed on the spot, but once all the patients have been seen the three of us will go over the cases, discuss, and dispense the remedies for the student to send on to their patients. The student then becomes that patient’s homeopath until they are next seen at clinic. The patient is encouraged to contact the student if they have any queries, acutes, or reactions, and the student will then consider the appropriate course of action and contact me for guidance. Students are not allowed to prescribe without first contacting me.

Some of our patients have been coming to us for many years – one I can think of has been coming since the clinic first started all those years ago. I have been running it myself since 2007. Patients come mostly through word of mouth, and frequently by recommendation from 1st and 2nd year students keen to build up a patient base for when they will be student practitioners. It is popular with families, and we will often see several members of one family, particularly children, at consecutive appointments.
We are centrally based in Chichester, about 10 minutes walk from the train station and very close to local car parks.

The charges for the Clinic are as follows:

Adults 1st appointment £20 follow-up £15
Children 1st appointment £15 follow-up £10

The clinic address is:

New Town Consulting Room,
2 New Town,
Chichester,
PO19 1UG.

Sally Nunn

Sally Nunn (RSHom., FSDSHom., LCCH) I trained at the London College of Classical Homeopathy, graduating in 1996. LCCH was the first college in Europe to obtain degree status for its course in homeopathy. I am a registered member of the Society of Homeopaths, where I served a six year term of office on the board from 2004 – 2010. During this time I worked on the Membership Committee and on the Professional Standards Committee as Professional Conduct Director. Before election to the board I was an assessor for the Society's registration programme, which involved site visits to candidates and assessment of their portfolios for registration. I am a lecturer and supervisor at the South Downs School of Homeopathy in Chichester, and I run their Low-cost Clinic from my own practice. I am committed to continual professional development, and as well as attending seminars and conferences, I run teaching workshops for Homeopaths where specialist speakers are invited to keep us up to date with some of the new remedies that are continuing to expand our materia medica. www.sallynunn.com
